    ISI Cancellation Using Blind Equalizer Based on DBC Model for MIMO-RFID Reader Reception

    Under the dyadic backscatter channel (DBC) model, a conventional zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) method for MIMO-RFID reader reception are not able to be rapidly cancelled inter-symbol interference (ISI) because of the error of postpreamble transmission. In order to achieve the ISI cancellation, the conventional method of ZF and MMSE are proposed to resolve a convergence rate without postpreamble by using a constant modulus algorithm (CMA). Depending on the cost function, the CMA is used which based on second order statistics to estimate the channel statement of channel transfer function. Furthermore, the multiple-tag detection is also considered under the assumption of the maximum likelihood estimation. The comparison of the conventional method and the proposed method is analyzed by using computer simulation and experimental data. We can see that the proposed method is better than the conventional method with a faster ISI cancelling and a lower bit error rate (BER) improving as up to 12 tags

    Enhancing pharmaceutical packaging through a technology ecosystem to facilitate the reuse of medicines and reduce medicinal waste

    The idea of reusing dispensed medicines is appealing to the general public provided its benefits are illustrated, its risks minimized, and the logistics resolved. For example, medicine reuse could help reduce medicinal waste, protect the environment and improve public health. However, the associated technologies and legislation facilitating medicine reuse are generally not available. The availability of suitable technologies could arguably help shape stakeholders’ beliefs and in turn, uptake of a future medicine reuse scheme by tackling the risks and facilitating the practicalities. A literature survey is undertaken to lay down the groundwork for implementing technologies on and around pharmaceutical packaging in order to meet stakeholders’ previously expressed misgivings about medicine reuse (’stakeholder requirements’), and propose a novel ecosystem for, in effect, reusing returned medicines. Methods: A structured literature search examining the application of existing technologies on pharmaceutical packaging to enable medicine reuse was conducted and presented as a narrative review. Results: Reviewed technologies are classified according to different stakeholders’ requirements, and a novel ecosystem from a technology perspective is suggested as a solution to reusing medicines. Conclusion: Active sensing technologies applying to pharmaceutical packaging using printed electronics enlist medicines to be part of the Internet of Things network. Validating the quality and safety of returned medicines through this network seems to be the most effective way for reusing medicines and the correct application of technologies may be the key enabler

    RFID 2011 collocated with the 2011 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series on Millimeter Wave Integration Technologies (IMWS 2011)Growing complexity and uncertainty are still the key challenges enterprises are facing in managing and re-engineering their existing supply chains. To tackle these challenges, they are continuing innovating management practices and piloting emerging technologies for achieving supply chain visibility, agility, adaptability and security. Nowadays, subcontracting has already become a common practice in modern logistics industry through partnership establishment between the involved stakeholders for delivering consignments from a consignor to a consignee. Companies involved in international supply chain are piloting various supply chain security and integrity initiatives promoted by customs to establish trusted business-to-customs partnership for facilitating global trade and cutting out avoidable supply chain costs and delays due to governmental regulations compliance and unnecessary customs inspection. While existing Auto-ID enabled tracking and tracing solutions are promising for implementing these practices, they provide few efficient privacy protection mechanisms for stakeholders involved in the international supply chain to communicate logistics data over dynamic business-to-business and business-government relationships.     LF RFID chequered loop antenna for pebbles on the beach detection

    This paper focus on low frequency (125 kHz) RFID by magnetic coupling, more precisely using glasstag type of tags in the context of pebble detection on the beach. The challenge is to detect over a wide area very small size tags which are highly sensitive to the orientation of the magnetic field. To improve the detection ability of the reader loop antenna, the paper proposes to exploit the principle of complementary loops. Theoretical simulations with MATLAB show the potential increase by means of mutual inductance value along a displacement of the tag. A prototype of a chequered loop structure is presented and tested with a classical low power RFID reader to demonstrate the improvement without increasing the current in LF reader loops. The detection performances reach 12,8% for a 900 cm 2 surface of a prototype reader loop, whatever the orientation of the glasstag

    Reducing Theft of Oysters Through the Use of RFID Technology

    Poaching (theft) of oyster from the oyster beds is a huge problem. Purpose of this study is to assess a means of reducing poaching. The means to be studied is the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags to mark oysters that would be placed on the beds so that when oysters from those beds are brought to the seafood processor, their origin can be identified. A detailed discussion of RFID appears in a later section of this study. RFID tags are to be put in dummy oysters, which should be hard to detect from real oysters. The shells must have a suitable media to hold the shell together and give it about the same density as a live oyster. Further, as detailed later, the media should be an electrically insulating material so that it does not absorb electromagnetic radiation
