pp-Process simulations with a modified reaction library

    Get PDF
We have performed pp-process simulations with the most recent stellar (n,Îł)(n,\gamma) cross sections from the "Karlsruhe Astrophysical Database of Nucleosynthesis in Stars" project (version v0.2, http://nuclear-astrophysics.fzk.de/kadonis). The simulations were carried out with a parametrized supernova type II shock front model (``Îł\gamma process'') of a 25 solar mass star and compared to recently published results. A decrease in the normalized overproduction factor could be attributed to lower cross sections of a significant fraction of seed nuclei located in the Bi and Pb region around the NN=126 shell closure.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure Proceedings "Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics NPA-III", Dresden/Germany (2007

Process Asset Library based on Knowledge Management Techniques

    Get PDF
Software Engineering Lab is a research center at Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain) that is developing a Process Asset Library (PAL) including concepts about Knowledge Management in order to contribute to generate, acquire, share and distribute knowledge of processes defined in the organization for developing software projects. The technology minimizes the risk of losing essential knowledge to meet goals. It is searching technical collaboration for this project

Towards a compendium of process technologies: The jBPT library for process model analysis

    Get PDF
This paper presents the idea of a compendium of process technologies, i.e., a concise but comprehensive collection of techniques for process model analysis that support research on the design, execution, and evaluation of processes. The idea originated from observations on the evolution of process-related research disciplines. Based on these observations, we derive design goals for a compendium. Then, we present the jBPT library, which addresses these goals by means of an implementation of common analysis techniques in an open source codebase

Barcoding and ILS Migration from Start to Finish: A Case Study

This practice-oriented article outlines one institution’s process of implementing both electronic checkout and a new integrated library system (ILS) for an academic library of 187,000 physical items. Special attention is given to the need for background research, administrative buy-in, and project management. Lessons learned and recommendations conclude the article

Usability testing in a library web site redesign project

    Get PDF
An intuitive library information gateway is critical to meeting the information needs of library users in the digital age. This article describes the process involved in redesigning a library Web site. In addition to first determining the goals and requirements for the library Web site, a user and task analysis was conducted for defining the library\u27s user base and types of tasks which users might be performing at the site. Usability testing methods, such as observational interviews, provided fresh insights about how users are interacting with the library Web interface as they approach various information seeking tasks. These usability studies uncovered problems related to unclear terminology, proper use of color, size and location of navigational links, and the need for context sensitive help, built-in redundancy, and clear and consistent navigation

Regeneration King's Cross: the Central Saint Martin's College of Art relocation project

Central Saint Martin's move to a prestigious new site at King's Cross is part of the most significant redevelopment project in London in the last 150 years. The Library will inhabit a 19th-century grain store, the Granary building, designed by Lewis Cubitt. To date the process of planning the library has included work with base build architects Stanton Williams, the fit out architects Pringle Brandon, library consultants The Design Concept and Embervision, and suppliers Demco

A spatial revolution continues in Oakland

The article describes the purpose-built young adult space in Oakland Public Library\u27s (OPL) 81st Avenue Branch in California. Launched on January 29, 2011, the space emphasizes the library\u27s dedication to young adult literature. The space expands the library\u27s commitment to public space equity for teenagers as well as contributes to the facility\u27s revolution in serving young adult readers. An overview of the planning process involved in the construction of the space.

Open source in libraries: Implementation of an open source ILMS at Asia e-University library

    Get PDF
Open source systems for libraries have improved significantly to gain the confidence of librarians. The main focus of the paper is to describe the selection process and criteria that led to the implementation of Koha the first open source Integrated Library Management System at the AeU Library. A study was made based on the set criteria used to compare and contrast with the more popular propriety library management systems. The paper presents the findings of the study which led to the selection of Koha, and a brief introduction to features of open source systems for libraries. The reasoning and conditions for accepting Koha are discussed. A brief account of the implementation process and related experience of the open source ILMS are given. AeU library implemented the various modules of the system: cataloging, online public access (OPAC), circulation, patron management and acquisitions. The expanding influence and acceptance of OSS in libraries is here to stay. Malaysian libraries may need to look into the credible options and benefits of utilizing open source systems and harness this development in ILS

    The Library Self-Study Process

In this chapter, we bring together the various thematic strands from the previous chapters -- those that focus on the impetus for self-studies and reviews and those that discuss the value of different types of data and assessment frameworks. We hope that this pragmatic approach provides a blueprint to allow you to apply the theoretical and practical lessons of the surrounding chapters
