A History of Radio Station KFUO 1954 to 1969

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research paper is two-fold. First, I hope to bring together significant source material for future historical analyses of Radio Station KFUO during the years 1954-1969. Hence, this paper is accompanied by a bulky Appendix, that reproduces the significant historical documents, and by a detailed Bibliobraphy, noting the location of additional materials. Second, this time period was selected both because scanty historical study has been focussed on it heretofore, and because 1954-1969 is the tenure of KFUO\u27s second General Manager. The events that occurred during this time period have significantly altered the historical motion of KFUO and are the basis upon which its future must proceed

The following paper documents Meredith Harper’s internship from May 2012 to August 2012 at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, LA as part of the degree requirements for the Master of Arts in Arts Administration. The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) is the only non-collecting, multi-disciplinary arts center in New Orleans, and has worked to present the very best of the art of now to the New Orleans community since 1976. This paper is written from the point of view of an arts administrator observing the organization as an outsider. This paper will discuss the responsibilities and duties of the internship, focused through the lens of organizational development, and examine the CAC’s institutional effectiveness by identifying strengths and providing solutions for areas needing improvement

Faced with persistent and emerging health risks in 2016, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) continued its mission to develop and transfer into practice new knowledge about occupational safety and health. Challenges NIOSH faced in 2016 included coal worker\ue2\u20ac\u2122s pneumoconiosis, or black lung disease. Black lung disease cases reached historic lows in the 1990s after the Coal Mine Health and Safety Act became law in 1969 and was amended in 1977. Recent years, however, have seen rising numbers of current and former coal miners diagnosed with the disease. Other diseases became emerging risks for workers in 2016, including Zika virus and the debilitating lung disease obliterative bronchiolitis, which may be a risk for people who work in the coffee processing industry. Throughout the year, NIOSH translated these and other research priorities into informative communication and research products, promoting occupational safety and health for all workers.Suggested citation: NIOSH [2017]. A technical symposium, aircraft display dedication, and pilots' panel discussion were held on May 27, 1992. to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first flights of the F-8 Digital Fly-By-Wire (DFBW) and Supercritical Wing (SCW) research aircraft. The symposium featured technical presentations by former key government and industry participants in the advocacy, design, aircraft modification, and flight research program activities. The DFBW and SCW technical contributions are cited. A dedication ceremony marked permanent display of both program aircraft. The panel discussion participants included eight of the eighteen research and test pilots who flew these experimental aircraft. Pilots' remarks include descriptions of their most memorable flight experiences. The report also includes a survey of the Gulf Air War, an after-dinner presentation by noted aerospace author and historian Dr. Richard Hallion

Políticas de educação para a igualdade de género: Analisando as respostas do estado

The implementation of non-discriminatory sex legislation provides theoretical and empirical grounds to examine responses by the state to gender equality. Tracing the trajectory of one such law in the U.S.—Title IX—over a period of 40 years, this study analyzes the extent to which the state: (1) acted as a unitary body, and (2) functioned to dismantle its own oppressive gender features. By examining the federal government’s three core branches (executive, legislative, and judicial), the study finds differential responses by branch, with the greatest variability expressed by the executive branch, revealing the state to be less than a coherent institution. The study also shows only modest efforts to enforce the law, raising doubts about the commitment of the state to transform the social relations of gender. The state’s framing of gender equality exclusively in terms of non-discriminatory practices falls short of fostering changes in gender mentalities and identities in U.S. educational institutions—an outcome reflected in the persistent gender clustering of fields of study at the university level.
