The system of academic activities in higher education institutions is a program created to enable students and academic activities to communicate with each other. The mainpurpose of the existence of this system is to provide guidance and mentoring to students in their academic direction. Web-based system has been used as a medium for students to obtain information specifically related to academic course of study and learning. The use of the web-based system is to facilitate the process of selecting courses for planning of studies. The aims of this research are to design and implement quality management system based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in higher education or university with android and to know the respondents’ reaction regarding the new design quality management system based on ISO in higher education or university with android. The tools that used in this research are hardware and sofware. In this research use quality management system based on ISO 9001 (quality control) and the process of managing the data in the application of Android telephone celuler will use to implement the system to achieve the result of the research. The sample is 15 students of Information System Department students in Diponegoro University. The method analysis use in this research is descriptive analysis. The result of this study is the develop of information systems used in the higher education or university to know the quality management system based on ISO using Android. The information system to know the quality management system based on ISO using Android telephon celluler is very useful and easy to aplicated. New findings/significance that the design of this information system can help to aplicatedquality management system based on ISO using Android. Keywords: ISO, educational system, academic advisor

Demonstrating the Value of the Public Library: Economic Valuation and the Advocacy Imperative

    Get PDF
Promising developments in the field of library valuation over the last fifteen years are providing new options for demonstrating library value. Metrics-gathering has moved away from counting inputs and outputs toward measuring the value of the public library in monetary terms using increasingly sophisticated quantitative methods formerly reserved for business and industry. While it is premature to draw a firm conclusion as to the impact of economic valuation efforts on the success of library advocacy, the adoption of private sector concepts represents a new window of opportunity for library advocates. This critical review synthesizes the library valuation literature, exploring the various frameworks through which library value is being articulated, and finds that econometrics will be most useful to advocates when: 1) library valuation efforts are united with advocacy plans; 2) library services are linked to the achievement of public policy goals; and 3) public libraries are able to connect to a wider funding base

The use of psychoactive substances and adolescents’ school performance

    Get PDF
The use of psychoactive substances is a public health problem. The use of these substances usually starts during adolescence and is associated with school problems, namely poor school performance. Research Questions included which psychoactive substances interfere with school performance (learning environment, planning of studies, methods of studying, reading skills, study motivation, overall school performance) in adolescents. The purpose of the study was to analyse the relationship between the use of psychoactive substances and adolescents’ school performance. The Research Methods included a cross-sectional study. Data were collected through a questionnaire which included socio-demographic information, psychoactive substances and a school performance scale (adapted from Fermin, 2005). Non-probability sampling for convenience, with 380 students from 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Data were collected in 2011/2012 among students from a Basic School in the Portuguese Municipality of Viseu. Results: There was a 4.2% of prevalence of drug use: 4,3% in boys and 4.1% in girls. For both genders, the most commonly used drugs were hashish and marijuana (43.8%). Girls (p<0.001), younger students (p<0.001), those whose parents graduated from high-school or who have a higher education (p=0.019) and students who do not use drugs (p=0.000) do better in school. We concluded that drug abuse is associated with adolescents’ poorer school performance. It is therefore important to identify risk groups and develop policies to prevent youngsters from using psychoactive substances because of the major impact they have on individual, family and social levels. The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and the Centre for Studies in Education, Technologies and Health (CI&DETS).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Fostering the exchange of real-life data across different countries to answer primary care research questions: a protocol for an UNLOCK study from the IPCRG

[Excerpt] This protocol describes a study that will explore the lessons of UNLOCK (Uncovering and Noting Long-term COPD and asthma to enhance Knowledge) over the past 5 years of sharing real-life primary care data from different countries to answer research questions on the diagnosis and management of chronic respiratory diseases. UNLOCK is an international collaboration between primary care researchers and practitioners to coordinate and share data sets of relevant diagnostic and follow-up variables for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma management in primary care. It was set up by members of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG) in response to the identified research need for research in primary care, which recruits patients representative of primary care populations, evaluates interventions realistically delivered within primary care and draws conclusions that will be meaningful to professionals working within primary care.1,2 [...]The IPCRG provided funding for this research project as an UNLOCK Group study for which the funding was obtained through an unrestricted grant by Novartis AG, Basel, Switzerland. Novartis has no role in study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish or preparation of the manuscript.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
