This is an empirical study based on the primary data collected from the field of Ayurved domain using a survey approach. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics for hypothesis testing to draw conclusions. Researchers collected data from 194 participants (38% male and 62% female) with an average age 31.19 years (± 0.80) and SD 11.11 years. They included 58.76% of students, 40.72% of teachers, and 0.52% of researchers having education qualifications as 37.63%, 40.72%, and 21.65% for undergraduate (UG), Post Graduate (PG), and Doctoral (Ph.D.) respectively. Formulated four research hypotheses, through their respective sub-hypotheses, are tested for independence using parametric χ2 test of independence at 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). Awareness about plagiarism depends upon educational qualification as well as professional-category of the personnel, It is found to be in increasing order with respect to educational qualification, more in teachers than students. The motivation behind the plagiarism check was also found to be dependent upon educational qualification and professional category. Mandatory-requirement factor increases with an academic qualification and is found to be higher in teachers than students. The researcher further observed that the selection of plagiarism detection software is independent of educational qualification and professional category. It found effectiveness as the primary factor for selection followed by price. By understanding these plagiarism aspects, it is possible to develop strategies to prevent plagiarism and promote ethical research practices in the field of Ayurveda, ultimately preserving the integrity of this traditional system of medicine. &nbsp

The primary aim of the study on which this article is based was to investigate undergraduate health sciences students’ perceptions, attitudes to and awareness of plagiarism at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The sample comprised 696 students from the School of Medicine and School of Healthcare Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. Analytical tools included frequencies, custom tables, independent t-tests and one-way analysis of variance. Exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were used to assess construct validity and internal consistency of the instrument tool respectively. Findings revealed that overall, the sample group of students seem to be generally aware of the University’s plagiarism policy and what it entails. However, it became evident that there is still a fairly significant percentage of students whose responses suggest a lack of understanding and awareness of plagiarism. Findings further revealed statistically significant differences in attitudes to plagiarism and awareness of it among the six programmes and across the levels of study. The paper advocates that plagiarism policies should be clearly written and communicated to ensure that students have consistent understandings of how plagiarism is defined, its purpose, due process and specific consequences

This study explores the awareness and attitude towards plagiarism among postgraduate students and research scholars of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (KU) and Panjab University, Chandigarh (PU). The findings of the questionnaire based study reveal that 53.64% of KU and 79.9% respondents of PU were acquainted with the term plagiarism. More than 41% respondents became aware of this term in their present university and more than half of the total respondents came to know about this concept during last one year. Only 23.97% had attended plagiarism awareness programmes. The understanding and attitude towards plagiarism needs greater attention. Maximum 88.35% respondents considered ‘Using someone’s ideas/words without acknowledging his/her’ as plagiarism while 48.63% did not consider ‘Helping your friend/classmate write a paper that must be submitted by him/her as an assignment’ as plagiarism. The main reason of plagiarism was lack of proper understanding of the concept and therefore it is suggested that awareness programmes on plagiarism and training programmes on methods of citation should be conducted

Nowadays, undergraduates have access to information faster and easier because of the Internet. This phenomenon has facilitated dishonesty practices among students, to mention one: Academic plagiarism. This concept is derived from a lack of Academic Integrity. Academic Integrity and Plagiarism vary from different cultures. In fact, according to McDonnell (2004), undergraduates might plagiarize because of different factors, to mention one: lack of academic writing skills (especially non-English native speakers). This action research project took place at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) in San Nicolás de Los Garza, Nuevo León. The participants are 38 English as Foreign Language (EFL) undergraduates of 10th semester from the major of Sciences of language. This didactic proposal aims at finding out if there is any relationship between the students’ level of plagiarism, lack of academic writing skills, and plagiarism awareness. The participants answered a validated Likert-scale survey to discover how much they know about plagiarism, and then they were asked to write an essay as part of their academic program to verify their actual level of plagiarism and academic writing skills. The data gathered were analyzed through an SPSS program to get the correlation between the variables (lack of academic writing and plagiarism). The results demonstrated that students are aware of plagiarism. Even though, SPSS showed that the lack of academic writing skills is one of the factors that lead undergraduates to do plagiarism. Therefore, this proposal will benefit undergraduates to be aware of their level of plagiarism by educating professors about the importance of academic integrity and providing them with tools that might help detect academic dishonesty practices

In many of our courses, particularly laboratory courses, students are expected to engage in scientific writing. Despite various efforts by other courses and library resources, as instructors we are often faced with the frustration of student plagiarism and related writing problems. Here, we describe a simple Writing in Your Own Voice intervention designed to help students become more aware of different types of plagiarism and writing problems, avoid those problems, and practice writing in their own voice. In this article, we will introduce the types of plagiarism and writing problems commonly encountered in our molecular biology laboratory course, the intervention, and the results of our study. From the evaluation of 365 student reports, we found the intervention resulted in nearly 50% fewer instances of plagiarism and common writing problems. We also observed significantly fewer instances of severe plagiarism (e.g. several sentences copied from an external source). In addition, we find that the effects last for several weeks after the students complete the intervention assignment. This assignment is particularly easy to implement and can be a very useful tool for teaching students how to write in their own voices. © 2019 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 47(5):589-598, 2019

Student plagiarism in colleges and universities has become a controversial issue in recent years. A key problem has been the lack of reliable empirical data on the frequency, nature and extent of plagiarism in student assignments. The aim of the study described here was to provide this data. Patterns of plagiarism were tracked in two university business studies assignments involving over 500 students and over 1000 scripts. Turnitin software was used to facilitate the identification of plagiarised material in assignments. The findings confirmed some common assertions about the nature of student plagiarism but did not provide support for a number of others

The rapid advancement of information technology has an impact on easier access to information, which could encourage academic plagiarism. If plagiarism is not overcome, it can have a number of consequences, including copyright infringement and the emergence of the assumption that plagiarism is a simple way to create a scientific work. Thus, actions are required to overcome plagiarism, one of which is understanding the perception of students as academicians who frequently commit plagiarism, so strategies to overcome it may be provided. This is a quantitative study based on a survey of 106 students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical methods, both descriptively and inferentially, using the Chi-Square Test. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that even though students already have an understanding of the concept and consequences of plagiarism, there are still many acts of plagiarism committed by students, especially partial plagiarism. Based on the perception of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta students, the main thing that affects plagiarism is limited time and a lack of understanding of reference writing techniques. As a result, the solution that can be implemented is for universities to implement policies that impose consequences for plagiarism, such as grade reductions. Meanwhile, students also have to uphold academic integrity, gain confidence in their talents, and demonstrate a willingness to learn reference writing techniques
