The Study of the Scale through Space. Teaching Innovation Experience among Architecture Schools: Malaga, Seville and Palermo
The educational innovation project object of this communication focuses on the scale
problems that arise in the projects of territorial planning carried out in architecture schools, but also
in the loss of the scale concept related to thought and drawing. The project involved collaboration
among the Schools of Architecture of Malaga, Palermo and Seville with the aim of carrying out a
practical exercise among the students of two subjects that, working on different scales, addressed
similar concepts. In particular, following an PBL methodology based on collaborative projects, the
planning of the N-340 road in the city of Nerja (Málaga) was carried out. Firstly, the territorial scale
is addressed in the subject of Urbanism IV at the School of Architecture of Malaga, proposing the
continuity of its development at the scale of landscape design in another place and with other
designers of the course of Landscape Laboratory at the School of Architecture of Palermo. Besides,
having verified that the academic results have been -in general terms- more satisfactory, the project
has allowed consolidating the academic relationship between the three schools, which has
translated into the development of complementary training actions
EU Patent System: to be or not to be?
This paper introduce a list of desirable efficiency properties that any a patent system should have in order to enhance innovation, trade competitiveness, employment mobility and economic growth. We briefly overview the literature on patents and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the present and recent proposals for the future of the European Union Patents System. In particular, we discuss the costinefficiencies observed in the current design of the EU Patent System based in a double structure layer divided in a central European Patent Office (EPO) and several nationalbased patent offices. This paper analyzes the likely backlashes of creating a third layer for a subâ€sample of EU countries. The paper suggests an alternative more efficient Patent System together with some policy implications.Innovation, Patents, Knowledge spillovers, Common European patent, Welfare losses, Patents’ languages, Cultural proximity, Competitive trade
Competence Monitoring in Project Teams by using Web based portfolio management systems
This paper reports a learning experience related to the acquisition of project management competences. Students from three different universities and backgrounds, cooperate in a common project that drives the learning-teaching process. Previous related works on this initiative have already evaluated the goodness of this multidisciplinary, project-based learning approach in the context of a new educative paradigm. Yet the innovative experience has allowed the authors to define a rubric in order to measure specific competences in project management. The study shows the rubric’s main aspects as well as competence acquisition evaluation alternatives, based in the metrics defined. Key indicators and specific reports obtained from data base fields in the web tool will support this work. As a result, new competences can be assessed, such ones like teamwork, problem solving, communication and leadership. Final goal is to provide an overall competence map to the students at the same time they improve their skills
Ibero-American Research on Local Development. An Analysis of Its Evolution and New Trends
Local development is a subject that arouses significant interest in the international scientific community in general, and in the Ibero-American one, in particular. The process of globalization has transformed the management of local development, altering the role that is played by local and regional entities, and it is the object of an important follow-up and analysis by academia. This research uses a bibliometric methodology and a fractional counting method, reviewing the 738 articles from the Scopus database in order to understand the state of Ibero-American research on local development, and analyze the scientific literature on the topic. The results show a significant increase in the number of publications in the 21st century, with Spain and Brazil leading the way. In addition, this research provides interesting results regarding the most influential authors on this topic, the most relevant journals, and the most important institutions and funding organizations. There are several areas of knowledge involved since local development is a transversal field, such as Social Science, environment, business, economics, and agriculture. A deep analysis of authors’ keywords identified new trends, linking local development with tourism, education, geotourism, climate change, local sustainable development, social innovation, and creativity, which provides academia with potential new lines of research
New horizons shaping science, technology and innovation diplomacy: the case of Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union. EL-CSID Working Paper Issue 2018/20 • August 2018
Europe and the world face a moment of transformation. The global financial crisis wiped out years of
economic and social progress, exposed structural weaknesses in world economies and emphasised
the importance of the real economies and strong industries. Modernisation and digitalisation of the
industrial base together with the promotion of a competitive framework for industry through research,
technology and innovation are drivers for recovery. Innovation, and particularly open innovation, is a
key factor of global competitiveness.
The European Commission (EC) addresses international cooperation policy in a wider framework and
adapts to the evolving needs of partner countries at different stages of development (EC, 2018a). Latin
America and the Caribbean countries’ (LAC) and the European Union’s (EU) cooperation on science,
technology and innovation has a long history based on cultural roots and common concerns. They
share a strategic bi-regional partnership, which was launched in 1999 and stepped up significantly in
recent years. The two regions co-operate closely at international level across a broad range of issues
and maintain an intensive political dialogue at all levels. EU-LAC relationships are moving from a
traditional cooperation model towards a learning model, where sharing experiences and learning from
innovations appear to be decisive (OECD, 2014).
This paper focuses on the challenges that innovation nowadays poses to international relations and
diplomacy. It is based on the evidence gained by the research team from participation in several EULAC
projects, especially the ELAN Network project coordinated by TECNALIA, the INNOVACT project as
well as other projects and activities
Cooperative Research As a Strategy for University Teacher Training. A Case Study of Lesson and Learning Study
This paper presents the possibilities offered by Lesson and Learning Studies for training and for improving and generating knowledge by reconstructing the practical knowledge of teachers. Firstly, we provide a summary of the concept of practical knowledge and the tradition of teachers researching their own practice. This is followed by some principles of Lesson and Learning Studies, with examples of their possibilities for university teacher training taken from a case study of our own practice during a university master's degree
