    The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration,new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating,their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection. Developments in IoT heterogeneous parallel processing/communication and dynamic systems based on parallelism and concurrencyrequire new ideas for integrating the intelligent “devices”, collaborativerobots (COBOTS), into IoT applications.     Co-Optimization of Communication, Motion and Sensing in Mobile Robotic Operations

    In recent years, there has been considerable interest in wireless sensor networks and networked robotic systems. In order to achieve the full potential of such systems, integrative approaches that design the communication, navigation and sensing aspects of the systems simultaneously are needed. However, most of the existing work in the control and robotic communities uses over-simplified disk models or path-loss-only models to characterize the communication in the network, while most of the work in networkingand communication communities does not fully explore the benefits of motion.This dissertation thus focuses on co-optimizing these three aspects simultaneously in realistic communication environments that experience path loss, shadowing and multi-path fading. We show how to integrate the probabilistic channel prediction framework, which allows the robots to predict the channel quality at unvisited locations, into the co-optimization design. In particular, we consider four different scenarios: 1) robotic routerformation, 2) communication and motion energy co-optimization along a pre-defined trajectory, 3) communication and motion energy co-optimization with trajectory planning, and 4) clustering and path planning strategies for robotic data collection. Our theoretical, simulation and experimental results show that the proposed framework considerably outperforms the cases where the communication, motion and sensing aspects of the system are optimized separately, indicating the necessity of co-optimization. They furthershow the significant benefits of using realistic channel models, as compared to the case of using over-simplified disk models

    Prediction and estimation model of energy demand of the AMR with cobot for the designed path in automated logistics systems

    Abstract The ecosystem of the Industry 4.0 involves many new technologies, such as autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and cobots (collaborative robots), these are characterized with higher flexibility and cost effectiveness which makes them more suitable for automated internal logistics systems. The evaluation of energy consumption of AMRs for a designed path in a real case scenario using analytical tools are challenging. This paper proposes a method of evaluation of the sustainability of new technologies of Industry 4.0 in internal logistics. The proposed framework demonstrates data management technique of the industrial robots. Since, the AMR with manipulator perform different tasks as a single system in logistics there is big demand to develop model of cyber physical system. During task execution measured robots' physical parameters used as input data to perform analytics. Moreover, acquired data from different condition use cases have been used to monitor the battery behaviour of the AMR and preliminary results of the linear regression model is presented

    Scouting algorithms for field robots using triangular mesh maps

    Labor shortage has prompted researchers to develop robot platforms for agriculture field scouting tasks. Sensor-based automatic topographic mapping and scouting algorithms for rough and large unstructured environments were presented. It involves moving an image sensor to collect terrain and other information and concomitantly construct a terrain map in the working field. In this work, a triangular mesh map was first used to represent the rough field surface and plan exploring strategies. A 3D image sensor model was used to simulate collection of field elevation information.A two-stage exploring policy was used to plan the next best viewpoint by considering both the distance and elevation change in the cost function. A greedy exploration algorithm based on the energy cost function was developed; the energy cost function not only considers the traveling distance, but also includes energy required to change elevation and the rolling resistance of the terrain. An information-based exploration policy was developed to choose the next best viewpoint to maximise the information gain and minimize the energy consumption. In a partially known environment, the information gain was estimated by applying the ray tracing algorithm. The two-part scouting algorithm was developed to address the field sampling problem; the coverage algorithm identifies a reasonable coverage path to traverse sampling points, while the dynamic path planning algorithm determines an optimal path between two adjacent sampling points.The developed algorithms were validated in two agricultural fields and three virtual fields by simulation. Greedy exploration policy, based on energy consumption outperformed other pattern methods in energy, time, and travel distance in the first 80% of the exploration task. The exploration strategy, which incorporated the energy consumption and the information gain with a ray tracing algorithm using a coarse map, showed an advantage over other policies in terms of the total energy consumption and the path length by at least 6%. For scouting algorithms, line sweeping methods require less energy and a shorter distance than the potential function method

    Virtual Structure Based Formation Tracking of Multiple Wheeled Mobile Robots: An Optimization Perspective

    Today, with the increasing development of science and technology, many systems need to be optimized to find the optimal solution of the system. this kind of problem is also called optimization problem. Especially in the formation problem of multi-wheeled mobile robots, the optimization algorithm can help us to find the optimal solution of the formation problem. In this paper, the formation problem of multi-wheeled mobile robots is studied from the point of view of optimization. In order to reduce the complexity of the formation problem, we first put the robots with the same requirements into a group. Then, by using the virtual structure method, the formation problem is reduced to a virtual WMR trajectory tracking problem with placeholders, which describes the expected position of each WMR formation. By using placeholders, you can get the desired track for each WMR. In addition, in order to avoid the collision between multiple WMR in the group, we add an attraction to the trajectory tracking method. Because MWMR in the same team have different attractions, collisions can be easily avoided. Through simulation analysis, it is proved that the optimization model is reasonable and correct. In the last part, the limitations of this model and corresponding suggestions are given
