Answer Set Programming Modulo `Space-Time'
We present ASP Modulo `Space-Time', a declarative representational and
computational framework to perform commonsense reasoning about regions with
both spatial and temporal components. Supported are capabilities for mixed
qualitative-quantitative reasoning, consistency checking, and inferring
compositions of space-time relations; these capabilities combine and synergise
for applications in a range of AI application areas where the processing and
interpretation of spatio-temporal data is crucial. The framework and resulting
system is the only general KR-based method for declaratively reasoning about
the dynamics of `space-time' regions as first-class objects. We present an
empirical evaluation (with scalability and robustness results), and include
diverse application examples involving interpretation and control tasks
The Design of the Fifth Answer Set Programming Competition
Answer Set Programming (ASP) is a well-established paradigm of declarative
programming that has been developed in the field of logic programming and
nonmonotonic reasoning. Advances in ASP solving technology are customarily
assessed in competition events, as it happens for other closely-related
problem-solving technologies like SAT/SMT, QBF, Planning and Scheduling. ASP
Competitions are (usually) biennial events; however, the Fifth ASP Competition
departs from tradition, in order to join the FLoC Olympic Games at the Vienna
Summer of Logic 2014, which is expected to be the largest event in the history
of logic. This edition of the ASP Competition series is jointly organized by
the University of Calabria (Italy), the Aalto University (Finland), and the
University of Genova (Italy), and is affiliated with the 30th International
Conference on Logic Programming (ICLP 2014). It features a completely
re-designed setup, with novelties involving the design of tracks, the scoring
schema, and the adherence to a fixed modeling language in order to push the
adoption of the ASP-Core-2 standard. Benchmark domains are taken from past
editions, and best system packages submitted in 2013 are compared with new
versions and solvers.

Weighted logics for artificial intelligence : an introductory discussion
International audienceBefore presenting the contents of the special issue, we propose a structured introductory overview of a landscape of the weighted logics (in a general sense) that can be found in the Artificial Intelligence literature, highlighting their fundamental differences and their application areas
2D object reconstruction with ASP
Damages to cultural heritage due to human malicious actions or to natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, tornadoes) are nowadays more and more frequent. Huge work is needed by professional restores to reproduce, as best as possible, the original artwork or architecture opera starting from the potsherds. The tool we are presenting in this paper is devised for being a digital support for this kind of work. As soon as the fragments of the opera are cataloged, a user (possibly young students, and even children, using a tablet or a smartphone as playing with a video game) can propose a partial reconstruction. The final part of the job is left to an ASP program that first computes a pre-processing task to find coherence between (sides of) fragments, and then tries to reconstruct the original object. Experiments are made here focusing on 2D reconstruction (frescoes, reliefs, etc)
Reasoning about Qualitative Direction and Distance between Extended Objects using Answer Set Programming
In this thesis, we introduce a novel formal framework to represent and reason
about qualitative direction and distance relations between extended objects
using Answer Set Programming (ASP). We take Cardinal Directional Calculus (CDC)
as a starting point and extend CDC with new sorts of constraints which involve
defaults, preferences and negation. We call this extended version as nCDC. Then
we further extend nCDC by augmenting qualitative distance relation and name
this extension as nCDC+. For CDC, nCDC, nCDC+, we introduce an ASP-based
general framework to solve consistency checking problems, address composition
and inversion of qualitative spatial relations, infer unknown or missing
relations between objects, and find a suitable configuration of objects which
fulfills a given inquiry.Comment: In Proceedings ICLP 2019, arXiv:1909.0764
