Agenator: An open source computer-controlled dry aging system for beef

    Get PDF
Dry aging of beef is a process where beef is exposed to a controlled environment with the ultimate goal of drying the beef to improve its quality and value. Comprehensive investigations into the effects of various environmental conditions on dry aging are crucial for understanding and optimizing the process, but the lack of affordable equipment focused on data collection makes it difficult to do so. The Agenator was thus developed as an open source system with a suite of features for investigating dry aging such as: measuring and recording relative humidity, temperature, mass, air velocity, and fan rotational speed; precise control within 1% for relative humidity and 50 rpm for fan rotational speed; robust signal integrity preservation and data recovery features; modular design for easy addition and removal of individual chamber units; and non-permanent fixtures to allow easy adaptation of the system for other applications such as investigating dehydration of food products. The open source system comes with user-friendly computer software for interfacing with the system and creating sophisticated environmental control programs. The Agenator is available to the public at https://osf.io/87nck/

A feature-based approach to the Computer-Aided Design of sculptured products

Computer-Aided Design systems offer considerable potential for improving design process efficiency. To reduce the 'ease of use' barrier hindering full realisation of this potential amongst general mechanical engineering industries, many commercial systems are adopting a Feature-Based Design (FBD) metaphor. Typically the user is allowed to define and manipulate the design model using interface elements that introduce and control parametric geometry clusters, with engineering meaning, representing specific product features (such as threaded holes, slots, pockets and bosses). Sculptured products, such as golf club heads, shoe lasts, crockery and sanitary ware, are poorly supported by current FBD systems and previous research, because their complex shapes cannot be accurately defined using the geometrically primitive feature sets implemented. Where sculptured surface regions are allowed for, the system interface, data model and functionality are little different from that already provided in many commercial surface modelling systems, and so offer very little improvement in ease of use, quality or efficiency. This thesis presents research to propose and develop an FBD methodology and system suitable for sculptured products. [Continues.

    WIRELESS TEMPERATURE MONITORING SYSTEM

This report is discussed about the basic understanding and the progressing ofwork for the chosen topic, "Wireless Temperature Monitoring System". The objective ofthis project is to design the wireless monitoring system to monitor temperature in health care industry by using temperature sensor. This project is helping to solve problem that current system unable to deal with. In health care industry, temperature plays a big role to ensure product such as blood, medicine and clinical samples in good condition. However, by keeping manual logs for every store's temperature is really atedious work. It requires a lot of time and workers to continuously check the temperature of every roomthat storethe items. Thus, this device is really useful to reduce workload and time consumption. The temperature data will besending wirelessly to the respective staff for any action. In addition, using wireless is more practical instead of running wires or cabling system in such application because the wireless system can beimplemented ina big area and it is lower in cost. The challenges in this project are to select the suitable signal to be use in transmission and reception the data and also to design the most favorable alert system. The methodology used in this project includes constructing a simple circuit oftransmitter and receiver and troubleshooting will be done to ensure the circuit is working. Then, the programming will also beinvolved upon the completion of this project. Improvement and adjusting of this system will be done after the simple circuit demonstrates the expected output. The expected outcome from this project is to be able to demonstrate the wireless monitoring system that will be able to send the gathered data from the sensor to receiver and display the data at the base station

Trends of Engineering Systems Evolution and Agricultural Technology

    Get PDF
The new products are certainly decisive for achieving the business success of companies involved in the design and production of agricultural technology. Reducing the risk in the development and introduction of new technical products is the goal of analyzing the evolution of technical products. Effective innovation engineering procedures in the conceptual design phase do not use deductive methods such as brainstorming, but use more advanced methods with varying degrees of detail to describe the identified trends in the evolution of technology. In the case of this chapter, we will focus on so-called trends of engineering systems evolution. They describe natural transitions of the engineering system from one state to another, and are generally valid for all engineering disciplines. These are guides to the directions of development and their individual development phases, which should keep track of innovated products (through innovation, improvements and combinations of successful systems and technologies) so that users\u27 needs are met more. Trends are generally the basis of modern technological forecasting and strategic planning. Unlike conventional forecasting methods, knowledge of trends can more accurately predict the problems associated with the introduction of new technologies and thus increases the probability of success of the chosen solution
