Haris Pujianto, 2010, BUILDING MULTIMEDIA STREAMING SERVER ON PT MULTI INDOSARVA SEJATI BRANCH SURAKARTA The majority of internet users especially in internet cafe or game center are very fond multimedia streaming. Users need a large enough bandwidth to access the multimedia streaming smoothly. A few of hops in the network stream also expedite access to stream. Of course this is an obstacle for users who have limited bandwidth and a lot of hops in their network. To provide multimedia streaming service, we need a computer with the special operating system and application called Multimedia Streaming Server. In addition to providing streaming service, this server is also used for managing all activities of the multimedia streaming including user management, file storage, and also media encoder with an application that called PHPMotion. By the own multimedia streaming server in a company or ISP (Internet Service Provider), it was that expected to the system be able to answer the problems faced by users, especially within the scope of PT Multi Indosarva Sejati branch Surakarta clients in accessing multimedia streaming. Region of interest-based adaptive multimedia streaming scheme

Adaptive multimedia streaming aims at adjusting the transmitted content based on the available bandwidth such as losses that often severely affect the end-user perceived quality are minimized and consequently the transmission quality increases. Current solutions affect equally the whole viewing area of the multimedia frames, despite research showing that there are regions on which the viewers are more interested in than on others. This paper presents a novel region of interest-based adaptive scheme (ROIAS) for multimedia streaming that when performing transmission-related quality adjustments, selectively affects the quality of those regions of the image the viewers are the least interested in. As the quality of the regions the viewers are the most interested in will not change (or will involve little change),the proposed scheme provides higher overall end-user perceived quality than any of the existing adaptive solutions

Cooperative Caching for Multimedia Streaming in Overlay Networks

Traditional data caching, such as web caching, only focuses on how to boost the hit rate of requested objects in caches, and therefore, how to reduce the initial delay for object retrieval. However, for multimedia objects, not only reducing the delay of object retrieval, but also provisioning reasonably stable network bandwidth to clients, while the fetching of the cached objects goes on, is important as well. In this paper, we propose our cooperative caching scheme for a multimedia delivery scenario, supporting a large number of peers over peer-to-peer overlay networks. In order to facilitate multimedia streaming and downloading service from servers, our caching scheme (1) determines the appropriate availability of cached stream segments in a cache community, (2) determines the appropriate peer for cache replacement, and (3) performs bandwidth-aware and availability-aware cache replacement. By doing so, it achieves (1) small delay of stream retrieval, (2) stable bandwidth provisioning during retrieval session, and (3) load balancing of clients' requests among peers

A novel P2P and cloud computing hybrid architecture for multimedia streaming QoS cost functions

Since its appearance, peer-to-peer technology has given raise to various multimedia streaming applications. Today, cloud computing offers different service models as a base for successful end user applications. In this paper we propose joining peer-to-peer and cloud computing into new architectural realization of a distributed cloud computing network for multimedia streaming, in a both centralized and peer-to-peer distributed manner. This architecture merges private and public clouds and it is intended for a commercial use, but in the same time scalable to offer the possibility of non-profitable use. In order to take advantage of the cloud paradigm and make multimedia streaming more efficient, we introduce APIs in the cloud, containing build-in functions for automatic QoS calculation, which permits negotiating QoS parameters such as bandwidth, jitter and latency, among a cloud service provider and its potential clients

In recent years, multimedia has become a commonly used tool for presenting contents to the users. The employment of multimedia is no longer limited to only the entertainment industry, but spans in other areas as well. In academics, lectures are recorded to audio and video for storage and distribution to students. Free online multimedia hosting services are popularly cherished, such as “youtube.com” and “yahoo video”, and with the increasing affordability of digital camera, hundreds, or maybe thousands, of home-made videos and music audio are created daily and published online. Low-cost digital recorders such as webcams also help promote the use of video for surveillance, both for commercial and personal use. Suddenly, there comes the need for digital multimedia delivery, which happens naturally with the advancement in Internet bandwidth and the popularity of multimedia sharing. Multimedia delivery comes in two methods: downloading and streaming. Streaming requires more complex structure, but rewards with better user experience. Although streaming is the method of choice today, downloading is still useful in ad-hoc situation where streaming is not feasible. This project aims to provide streaming-like capability to mobile devices. Since mobile gadgets are limited in resources compared to personal computers (PC), streaming sometimes is the only way to deliver media contents to user. This work targets devices in the so-called “ad-hoc situation”, and also seeks to save the cost associated with multimedia streaming, which traditionally uses the operator wireless network, by using a LAN-connected proxy and the Bluetooth medium. It is also to serve the educational purpose in learning about multimedia streaming on cellular phones. This project experiments with several approaches to implement streaming on mobile phones. It discusses each approach in details. Finally, a library and a sample application are implemented to demonstrate the solution
