    Multimedia Database Systems and Oracle Video Streaming

    The acquisition, generation, storage and processing of multimedia data incomputers and transmission over networks have grown tremendously in the recentpast. A multimedia database management system must support multimedia datatypes in addition to providing facilities for traditional DBMS function like databasecreation, data modeling, data retrieval, data access and organization, and dataindependence.In this paper we present several aspects of multimedia databases. Most ofthe classical database systems are extended to support the storage of multimediadata. This paper will focus on oracle database and in its datatypes for supporting thestorage and management of multimedia data, known as Intermedia. It is also shownthe architecture, configuration and implementation of video streaming. All themultimedia data are stored inside the oracle database so they will be undertransactional control. The implementation uses several tables to demonstrate all theprocess for doing it in the Oracle database with Helix server. We have created theprocedures in PL/SQL for inserting, retrieving the video and we have also used aPL/SQL package integrated with PHP script in order to help users to makesearching using keywords

In this study, we explain the concept of the proposed information system architecture for retrieving information. This system scheme operates basing on the content of the document.  Digitized visual media: images and videos captured from real time video surveillance system require high storage capacity. This work describes the steps of indexation and content modeling for retrieving and managing information in multimedia documents databases.     Handling temporal heterogeneous data for content-based management of large video collections

    Video document retrieval is now an active part of the domain of multimedia retrieval. However, unlike for other media, the management of a collection of video documents adds the problem of efficiently handling an overwhelming volume of temporal data. Challenges include balancing efficient content modeling and storage against fast access at various levels. In this paper, we detail the framework we have built to accommodate our developments in content-based multimedia retrieval. We show that not only our framework facilitates the development of processing and indexing algorithms but it also opens the way to several other possibilities such as rapid interface prototyping or retrieval algorithm benchmarking.     Network on Chip: a New Approach of QoS Metric Modeling Based on Calculus Theory

    A NoC is composed by IP cores (Intellectual Propriety) and switches connected among themselves by communication channels. End-to-End Delay (EED) communication is accomplished by the exchange of data among IP cores. Often, the structure of particular messages is not adequate for the communication purposes. This leads to the concept of packet switching. In the context of NoCs, packets are composed by header, payload, and trailer. Packets are divided into small pieces called Flits. It appears of importance, to meet the required performance in NoC hardware resources. It should be specified in an earlier step of the system design. The main attention should be given to the choice of some network parameters such as the physical buffer size in the node. The EED and packet loss are some of the critical QoS metrics. Some real-time and multimedia applications bound up these parameters and require specific hardware resources and particular management approaches in the NoC switch. A traffic contract (SLA, Service Level Agreement) specifies the ability of a network or protocol to give guaranteed performance, throughput or latency bounds based on mutually agreed measures, usually by prioritizing traffic. A defined Quality of Service (QoS) may be required for some types of network real time traffic or multimedia applications. The main goal of this paper is, using the Network on Chip modeling architecture, to define a QoS metric. We focus on the network delay bound and packet losses. This approach is based on the Network Calculus theory, a mathematical model to represent the data flows behavior between IPs interconnected over NoC.     A Framework for Quality-Driven Delivery in Distributed Multimedia Systems

    In this paper, we propose a framework for Quality-Driven Delivery (QDD) in distributed multimedia environments. Quality-driven delivery refers to the capacity of a system to deliver documents, or more generally objects, while considering the users expectations in terms of non-functional requirements. For this QDD framework, we propose a model-driven approach where we focus on QoS information modeling and transformation. QoS information models and meta-models are used during different QoS activities for mapping requirements to system constraints, for exchanging QoS information, for checking compatibility between QoS information and more generally for making QoS decisions. We also investigate which model transformation operators have to be implemented in order to support some QoS activities such as QoS mapping

    A lightweight web video model with content and context descriptions for integration with linked data

    The rapid increase of video data on the Web has warranted an urgent need for effective representation, management and retrieval of web videos. Recently, many studies have been carried out for ontological representation of videos, either using domain dependent or generic schemas such as MPEG-7, MPEG-4, and COMM. In spite of their extensive coverage and sound theoretical grounding, they are yet to be widely used by users. Two main possible reasons are the complexities involved and a lack of tool support. We propose a lightweight video content model for content-context description and integration. The uniqueness of the model is that it tries to model the emerging social context to describe and interpret the video. Our approach is grounded on exploiting easily extractable evolving contextual metadata and on the availability of existing data on the Web. This enables representational homogeneity and a firm basis for information integration among semantically-enabled data sources. The model uses many existing schemas to describe various ontology classes and shows the scope of interlinking with the Linked Data cloud
