Trajectory-Based Spatiotemporal Entity Linking
Trajectory-based spatiotemporal entity linking is to match the same moving
object in different datasets based on their movement traces. It is a
fundamental step to support spatiotemporal data integration and analysis. In
this paper, we study the problem of spatiotemporal entity linking using
effective and concise signatures extracted from their trajectories. This
linking problem is formalized as a k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) query on the
signatures. Four representation strategies (sequential, temporal, spatial, and
spatiotemporal) and two quantitative criteria (commonality and unicity) are
investigated for signature construction. A simple yet effective dimension
reduction strategy is developed together with a novel indexing structure called
the WR-tree to speed up the search. A number of optimization methods are
proposed to improve the accuracy and robustness of the linking. Our extensive
experiments on real-world datasets verify the superiority of our approach over
the state-of-the-art solutions in terms of both accuracy and efficiency.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, 15 table
Why and How Your Traceability Should Evolve: Insights from an Automotive Supplier
Traceability is a key enabler of various activities in automotive software
and systems engineering and required by several standards. However, most
existing traceability management approaches do not consider that traceability
is situated in constantly changing development contexts involving multiple
stakeholders. Together with an automotive supplier, we analyzed how technology,
business, and organizational factors raise the need for flexible traceability.
We present how traceability can be evolved in the development lifecycle, from
early elicitation of traceability needs to the implementation of mature
traceability strategies. Moreover, we shed light on how traceability can be
managed flexibly within an agile team and more formally when crossing team
borders and organizational borders. Based on these insights, we present
requirements for flexible tool solutions, supporting varying levels of data

Massimiliano Balduzzi: Research in Physical Training for Performers
This essay begins the process of contextualizing and analyzing Massimiliano Balduzziâs solo physical training practice by introducing six newly created video documents. It locates Balduzziâs work in a wider historical and artistic context â touching upon the work of Konstantin Stanislavski, Jerzy Grotowski, and Eugenio Barba, as well as acrobatics, martial arts, and Balinese dance â while arguing that the documented physical training constitutes an original research contribution to the field of embodied technique. The essay has three main purposes: First, to give verbal articulation to some important aspects of Balduzziâs practice, as he begins to teach more widely in New York City and beyond. Second, to test and develop a theoretical framework that conceives of embodied technique as a field of knowledge in which rigorously framed research can and does give rise to new knowledge in the form of new technique. Third, to explore the epistemological status of multimedia documentation through a focused case study. Each of these goals has the potential to expand and clarify current discussions of actor and performer training, movement analysis and documentation, and practice-as-research
Historical collaborative geocoding
The latest developments in digital have provided large data sets that can
increasingly easily be accessed and used. These data sets often contain
indirect localisation information, such as historical addresses. Historical
geocoding is the process of transforming the indirect localisation information
to direct localisation that can be placed on a map, which enables spatial
analysis and cross-referencing. Many efficient geocoders exist for current
addresses, but they do not deal with the temporal aspect and are based on a
strict hierarchy (..., city, street, house number) that is hard or impossible
to use with historical data. Indeed historical data are full of uncertainties
(temporal aspect, semantic aspect, spatial precision, confidence in historical
source, ...) that can not be resolved, as there is no way to go back in time to
check. We propose an open source, open data, extensible solution for geocoding
that is based on the building of gazetteers composed of geohistorical objects
extracted from historical topographical maps. Once the gazetteers are
available, geocoding an historical address is a matter of finding the
geohistorical object in the gazetteers that is the best match to the historical
address. The matching criteriae are customisable and include several dimensions
(fuzzy semantic, fuzzy temporal, scale, spatial precision ...). As the goal is
to facilitate historical work, we also propose web-based user interfaces that
help geocode (one address or batch mode) and display over current or historical
topographical maps, so that they can be checked and collaboratively edited. The
system is tested on Paris city for the 19-20th centuries, shows high returns

Intriguingly, Frosh utilizes what might appear to be a relational premise to make a postmodernist argument that the consequent "ex-centric" location of psychic life enriches the subject but also-most notably under conditions of insecurity, oppression, and violence-creates an intense internal disturbance in which hatred of the other, felt to be entwined with the self, has a propensity to emerge

The geoscience record is constrained by the limitations of human thought and of the technology for handling information. IT can lead us away from the tyranny of older technology, but to find the right path, we need to understand our own limitations. Language, images, data and mathematical models, are tools for expressing and recording our ideas. Backed by intuition, they enable us to think in various modes, to build knowledge from information and create models as artificial views of a real world. Markup languages may accommodate more flexible and better connected records, and the object-oriented approach may help to match IT more closely to our thought processes
