Enhancing workflow-nets with data for trace completion
The growing adoption of IT-systems for modeling and executing (business)
processes or services has thrust the scientific investigation towards
techniques and tools which support more complex forms of process analysis. Many
of them, such as conformance checking, process alignment, mining and
enhancement, rely on complete observation of past (tracked and logged)
executions. In many real cases, however, the lack of human or IT-support on all
the steps of process execution, as well as information hiding and abstraction
of model and data, result in incomplete log information of both data and
activities. This paper tackles the issue of automatically repairing traces with
missing information by notably considering not only activities but also data
manipulated by them. Our technique recasts such a problem in a reachability
problem and provides an encoding in an action language which allows to
virtually use any state-of-the-art planning to return solutions
Petri net approaches for modeling, controlling, and validating flexible manufacturing systems
In this dissertation, we introduce the fundamental ideas and constructs of Petri net models such as ordinary, timed, colored, stochastic, control, and neural, and present some studies that emphasize Petri nets theories and applications as extended research fields that provide suitable platforms in modeling, controlling, validating, and evaluating concurrent systems, information systems, and a versatile dynamic system and manufacturing systems; We then suggest some of extensions that help make Petri nets useful for modeling and analyzing discrete event systems and manufacturing systems models based on the context of a versatile manufacturing system, and applies extended Petri nets models to several manufacturing systems such as an assembly cell, an Automated Palletized Conveyor System, and a tooling machine to show increased modeling power and efficient analysis methods; Finally, Validation methods are presented for these models and results of a performance analysis from a deterministic and stochastic model are used to reorganize and re-evaluate a manufacturing system in order to increase its flexibility
Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory
The influx of data in the world today needs analysis that no one method can handle. Some reports estimated the influx of data would reach 163 zitabytes by 2025, hence the need for simulation and modeling theory and practice. Simulation and modeling tools and techniques are most important in this day and age. While simulation carries the needed work, tools for visualizing the results help in the decision-making process. Simulation ranges from a simple queue to molecular dynamics, including seismic reliability analysis, structural integrity assessment, games, reliability engineering, and system safety. This book will introduce practitioners, researchers, and novice users to simulation and modeling, and to the world of imagination
Adaptive Process Management in Cyber-Physical Domains
The increasing application of process-oriented approaches in new challenging cyber-physical domains beyond business computing (e.g., personalized healthcare, emergency management, factories of the future, home automation, etc.) has led to reconsider the level of flexibility and support required to manage complex processes in such domains. A cyber-physical domain is characterized by the presence of a cyber-physical system coordinating heterogeneous ICT components (PCs, smartphones, sensors, actuators) and involving real world entities (humans, machines, agents, robots, etc.) that perform complex tasks in the “physical” real world to achieve a common goal. The physical world, however, is not entirely predictable, and processes enacted in cyber-physical domains must be robust to unexpected conditions and adaptable to unanticipated exceptions. This demands a more flexible approach in process design and enactment, recognizing that in real-world environments it is not adequate to assume that all possible recovery activities can be predefined for dealing with the exceptions that can ensue. In this chapter, we tackle the above issue and we propose a general approach, a concrete framework and a process management system implementation, called SmartPM, for automatically adapting processes enacted in cyber-physical domains in case of unanticipated exceptions and exogenous events. The adaptation mechanism provided by SmartPM is based on declarative task specifications, execution monitoring for detecting failures and context changes at run-time, and automated planning techniques to self-repair the running process, without requiring to predefine any specific adaptation policy or exception handler at design-time
Two Decades of Maude
This paper is a tribute to José Meseguer, from the rest of us in the Maude team, reviewing the past, the present, and the future of the language and system with which we have been working for around two decades under his leadership. After reviewing the origins and the language's main features, we present the latest additions to the language and some features currently under development. This paper is not an introduction to Maude, and some familiarity with it and with rewriting logic are indeed assumed.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
