    Weaving Rules into [email protected] for Embedded Smart Systems

    Smart systems are characterised by their ability to analyse measured data in live and to react to changes according to expert rules. Therefore, such systems exploit appropriate data models together with actions, triggered by domain-related conditions. The challenge at hand is that smart systems usually need to process thousands of updates to detect which rules need to be triggered, often even on restricted hardware like a Raspberry Pi. Despite various approaches have been investigated to efficiently check conditions on data models, they either assume to fit into main memory or rely on high latency persistence storage systems that severely damage the reactivity of smart systems. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel composition process, which weaves executable rules into a data model with lazy loading abilities. We quantitatively show, on a smart building case study, that our approach can handle, at low latency, big sets of rules on top of large-scale data models on restricted hardware.Comment: pre-print version, published in the proceedings of MOMO-17 Worksho

    Achieving scalability in modelling and MDE involves being able to construct large models and domain-specific languages in a systematic manner, enabling teams of modellers to construct and refine large models in collaboration, advancing the state of the art in model querying and transformations tools so that they can cope with large models (of the scale of millions of model elements), and providing an infrastructure for efficient storage, indexing and retrieval of large models. This paper outlines how MONDO, a collaborative EC-funded project, has contributed to tackling some of these scalability-related challenges

    A Time-Triggered Constraint-Based Calculus for Avionic Systems

    The Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architec- ture and the Time-Triggered Ethernet (TTEthernet) network have emerged as the key components of a typical architecture model for recent civil aircrafts. We propose a real-time constraint-based calculus targeted at the analysis of such concepts of avionic embedded systems. We show our framework at work on the modelisation of both the (IMA) architecture and the TTEthernet network, illustrating their behavior by the well-known Flight Management System (FMS)

    Towards Scalable Multidimensional Execution Traces for xDSMLs

    International audienceExecutable Domain Specific Modeling Languages (xDSML) opens many possibilities in terms of early verification and validation (V&V) of systems, including the use of dynamic V&V approaches. Such approaches rely on the notion of execution trace, i.e. the evolution of a system during a run. To benefit from dynamic V&V approaches, it is therefore necessary to characterize what is the structure of the executions traces of a given xDSML. Our goal is to provide an approach to design trace metamodels for xDSMLs. We identify seven problems that must be considered when modeling execution traces, including concurrency, modularity, and scalability. Then we present our envisioned approach to design scalable multidimensional trace metamodels for xDSMLs. Our work in progress relies on the dimensions of a trace (i.e. subsets of mu- table elements of the traced model) to provide an original structure that faces the identified problems, along with a trace API to manipulate them

    An automated model based approach to mobile UI specification and development

    One of the problems of current software development lies on the existence of solutions to address properly the code portability for the increasing number of platforms. To build abstract models is one efficient and correct way to achieve this. The Model-Driven Software Engineering (MDSE) is a development methodology where models are the key for all project lifecycle, from requisites gathering, through modelling and to the development stage, as well as on testing. Pervasive computing demands the use of several technical specifications, such as wireless connections, advanced electronics, and the Internet, as well as it stresses the need to adjust the user interface layer to each one of the platforms. Using a model-driven approach it is possible to reuse software solutions between different targets, since models are not affected by the device diversity and its evolution. This paper reports on a tool, which is highly parameterizable and driven to support Model-2-Model and Model-2-Code transformations. Also, instead of using a predefined technology, the tool was built to be scalable and extensible for many different targets and also by addressing the user interface layer generation.This work is ïŹnanced by the ERDF ?
