Impact of Obstacles on the Degree of Mobile Ad Hoc Connection Graphs
What is the impact of obstacles on the graphs of connections between stations
in Mobile Ad hoc Networks? In order to answer, at least partially, this
question, the first step is to define both an environment with obstacles and a
mobility model for the stations in such an environment. The present paper
focuses on a new way of considering the mobility within environments with
obstacles, while keeping the core ideas of the well-known Random WayPoint
mobility model (a.k.a RWP). Based on a mesh-partitioning of the space, we
propose a new model called RSP-O-G for which we compute the spatial
distribution of stations and analyse how the presence of obstacles impacts this
distribution compared to the distribution when no obstacles are present.
Coupled with a simple model of radio propagation, and according to the density
of stations in the environment, we study the mean degree of the connection
graphs corresponding to such mobile ad hoc networks
Spatial networks with wireless applications
Many networks have nodes located in physical space, with links more common
between closely spaced pairs of nodes. For example, the nodes could be wireless
devices and links communication channels in a wireless mesh network. We
describe recent work involving such networks, considering effects due to the
geometry (convex,non-convex, and fractal), node distribution,

LIS: Localization based on an intelligent distributed fuzzy system applied to a WSN
The localization of the sensor nodes is a fundamental problem in wireless sensor networks.
There are a lot of different kinds of solutions in the literature. Some of them use external
devices like GPS, while others use special hardware or implicit parameters in wireless
communications.
In applications like wildlife localization in a natural environment, where the power available
and the weight are big restrictions, the use of hungry energy devices like GPS or hardware
that add extra weight like mobile directional antenna is not a good solution.
Due to these reasons it would be better to use the localization’s implicit characteristics in
communications, such as connectivity, number of hops or RSSI. The measurement related
to these parameters are currently integrated in most radio devices. These measurement
techniques are based on the beacons’ transmissions between the devices.
In the current study, a novel tracking distributed method, called LIS, for localization of
the sensor nodes using moving devices in a network of static nodes, which have no additional
hardware requirements is proposed.
The position is obtained with the combination of two algorithms; one based on a local
node using a fuzzy system to obtain a partial solution and the other based on a centralized
method which merges all the partial solutions. The centralized algorithm is based on the
calculation of the centroid of the partial solutions.
Advantages of using fuzzy system versus the classical Centroid Localization (CL)
algorithm without fuzzy preprocessing are compared with an ad hoc simulator made for
testing localization algorithms.
With this simulator, it is demonstrated that the proposed method obtains less localization

Target Tracking in Confined Environments with Uncertain Sensor Positions
To ensure safety in confined environments such as mines or subway tunnels, a
(wireless) sensor network can be deployed to monitor various environmental
conditions. One of its most important applications is to track personnel,
mobile equipment and vehicles. However, the state-of-the-art algorithms assume
that the positions of the sensors are perfectly known, which is not necessarily
true due to imprecise placement and/or dropping of sensors. Therefore, we
propose an automatic approach for simultaneous refinement of sensors' positions
and target tracking. We divide the considered area in a finite number of cells,
define dynamic and measurement models, and apply a discrete variant of belief
propagation which can efficiently solve this high-dimensional problem, and
handle all non-Gaussian uncertainties expected in this kind of environments.
Finally, we use ray-tracing simulation to generate an artificial mine-like
environment and generate synthetic measurement data. According to our extensive
simulation study, the proposed approach performs significantly better than
standard Bayesian target tracking and localization algorithms, and provides

Design and realization of precise indoor localization mechanism for Wi-Fi devices
Despite the abundant literature in the field, there is still the need to find a time-efficient, highly accurate, easy to deploy and robust localization algorithm for real use. The algorithm only involves minimal human intervention. We propose an enhanced Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based positioning algorithm for Wi-Fi capable devices, called the Dynamic Weighted Evolution for Location Tracking (DWELT). Due to the multiple phenomena affecting the propagation of radio signals, RSSI measurements show fluctuations that hinder the utilization of straightforward positioning mechanisms from widely known propagation loss models. Instead, DWELT uses data processing of raw RSSI values and applies a weighted posterior-probabilistic evolution for quick convergence of localization and tracking. In this paper, we present the first implementation of DWELT, intended for 1D location (applicable to tunnels or corridors), and the first step towards a more generic implementation. A predefined channel coefficients library for vehicle-to-vehicle communications
It is noticeable that most of VANETs communications tests are assessed through simulation. In a majority of simulation results, the physical layer is often affected by an apparent lack of realism. Therefore, vehicular channel model has become a critical issue in the field of intelligent transport systems (ITS). To overcome the lack of realism problem, a more robust channel model is needed to reflect the reality. This paper provides an open access, predefined channel coefficients library. The library is based on 2x2 and 4x4 Multiple – Input – Multiple – Output (MIMO) systems in V2V communications, using a spatial channel model extended SCME which will help to reduce the overall simulation time. In addition, it provides a more realistic channel model for V2V communications; considering: over ranges of speeds, distances, multipath signals, sub-path signals, different angle of arrivals, different angle departures, no line of sight and line of sight. An intensive evaluation process has taken place to validate the library and acceptance results are produced. Having an open access predefined library, enables the researcher at relevant communities to test and evaluate several complicated vehicular communications scenarios in a wider manners with less time and efforts
Cooperative Symbol-Based Signaling for Networks with Multiple Relays
Wireless channels suffer from severe inherent impairments and hence
reliable and high data rate wireless transmission is particularly challenging to
achieve. Fortunately, using multiple antennae improves performance in wireless
transmission by providing space diversity, spatial multiplexing, and power gains.
However, in wireless ad-hoc networks multiple antennae may not be acceptable
due to limitations in size, cost, and hardware complexity. As a result, cooperative
relaying strategies have attracted considerable attention because of their abilities
to take advantage of multi-antenna by using multiple single-antenna relays.
This study is to explore cooperative signaling for different relay networks,
such as multi-hop relay networks formed by multiple single-antenna relays and
multi-stage relay networks formed by multiple relaying stages with each stage
holding several single-antenna relays. The main contribution of this study is the
development of a new relaying scheme for networks using symbol-level
modulation, such as binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift
keying (QPSK). We also analyze effects of this newly developed scheme when it
is used with space-time coding in a multi-stage relay network. Simulation results
demonstrate that the new scheme outperforms previously proposed schemes:
