    International audienceIn this work, an effort is made to characterize seven bearing states depending on the energy entropy of Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) resulted from the Empirical Modes Decomposition (EMD).Three run-to-failure bearing vibration signals representing different defects either degraded or different failing components (roller, inner race and outer race) with healthy state lead to seven bearing states under study. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) are used for feature reduction. Then, six classification scenarios are processed via a Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) and a Simplified Fuzzy Adaptive resonance theory Map (SFAM) neural network. In other words, the three extracted feature data bases (EMD, PCA and LDA features) are processed firstly with SFAM and secondly with a combination of PNN-SFAM. The computation of classification accuracy and scattering criterion for each scenario shows that the EMD-LDA-PNN-SFAM combination is the suitable strategy for online bearing fault diagnosis. The proposed methodology reveals better generalization capability compared to previous works and it’s validated by an online bearing fault diagnosis.     Diagnostic monitoring of drivetrain in a 5 MW spar-type floating wind turbine using Hilbert spectral analysis

    The objective of this paper is to investigate the frequency-based fault detection of a 5MW spar-type floating wind turbine (WT) gearbox using measurements of the global responses. It is extremely costly to seed managed defects in a real WT gearbox to investigate different fault detection and condition monitoring approaches; using analytical tools, therefore, is one of the promising approaches in this regard. In this study, forces and moments on the main shaft are obtained from the global response analysis using an aero-hydro-servo-elastic code, SIMO-RIFLEX-AeroDyn. Then, they are utilized as inputs to a high-fidelity gearbox model developed using a multi-body simulation software (SIMPACK). The main shaft bearing is one of the critical components since it protects gearbox from axial and radial loads. Six different fault cases with different severity in this bearing are investigated using power spectral density (PSD) of relative axial acceleration of the bearing and nacelle. It is shown that in severe degradation of this bearing the first stage dynamic of the gearbox is dominant in the main shaft vibration signal. Inside the gearbox, the bearings on the high speed side are those often with high probability of failure, thus, one fault case in IMS-B bearing was also considered. Based on the earlier studies, the angular velocity error function is considered as residual for this fault. The Hilbert transform is used to determine the envelope of this residual. Information on the amplitude of this residual properly indicates damage in this bearing

    A proposal of a technique for correlating defect dimensions to vibration amplitude in bearing monitoring

    The capability of early stage detection of a defect is gaining more and more importance because it can help the maintenance process, the cost reduction and the reliability of the systems. The increment of vibration amplitude is a well-known method for evaluating the damage of a component, but it is sometimes difficult to understand the exact level of damage. In other words, the amplitude of vibration cannot be directly connected to the dimension of the defect. In the present paper, based on a non-Hertzian contact algorithm, the spectrum of the pressure distribution in the contact surface between the race and the rolling element is evaluated. Such spectrum is then compared with the acquired spectrum of a vibration response of a defected bearing. The bearing vibration pattern was previously analyzed with monitoring techniques to extract all the damage information. The correlation between the spectrum of the pressure distribution in the defected contact surface and the analyzed spectrum of the damaged bearing highlights a strict relationship. By using that analysis, a precise correlation between defect aspect and dimension and vibration level can be addressed to estimate the level of damaging
