The Ethical Implications and Benefits of Supervised Injection Facilities
Supervised Injection Facilities (SIFs) are a place where individuals who use drugs can go to safely inject drugs. SIFs seek to reduce harm and negative consequences to drug users. They are ethical and provide individuals with autonomy that is lost. Worldwide there are 177 supervised injection facilities. The United States currently has minimal SIFs due to legal constraints

Are Chinese consumers at risk due to exposure to metals in crayfish? A bioaccessibility-adjusted probabilistic risk assessment
Freshwater crayfish, the world's third largest crustacean species, has been reported to accumulate high levels of metals, while the current knowledge of potential risk associated with crayfish consumption lags behind that of finfish. We provide the first estimate of human health risk associated with crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) consumption in China, the world's largest producer and consumer of crayfish. We performed Monte Carlo Simulation on a standard risk model parameterized with local data on metal concentrations, bioaccessibility (phi), crayfish consumption rate, and consumer body mass. Bioaccessibility of metals in crayfish was found to be variable (68-95%) and metal-specific, suggesting a potential influence of metal bioaccessibility on effective metal intake. However, sensitivity analysis suggested risk of metals via crayfish consumption was predominantly explained by consumption rate (explaining >92% of total risk estimate variability), rather than metals concentration, bioaccessibility, or body mass. Mean metal concentrations (As, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Se and Zn) in surveyed crayfish samples from 12 provinces in China conformed to national safety standards. However, risk calculation of phi-modified hazard quotient (HQ) and hazard index (HI) suggested that crayfish metals may pose a health risk for very high rate consumers, with a HI of over 24 for the highest rate consumers. Additionally, the phi-modified increased lifetime risk (ILTR) for carcinogenic effects due to the presence of As was above the acceptable level (10(-5)) for both the median (ILTR = 2.5 x 10(-5)) and 90th percentile (ILTR = 1.8 x 10(-4)), highlighting the relatively high risk of As in crayfish. Our results suggest a need to consider crayfish when assessing human dietary exposure to metals and associated health risks, especially for high crayfish-consuming populations, such as in China, USA and Sweden.HZ by the National

Ohio Northern University student yearbook. The 1910 yearbook, The Comet was the first student published yearbook for Ohio Northern University. Starting one year later, yearbook began being published under the title Northern. Yearbooks were not published from 1943-1945, though the 1946 yearbook was intended to be inclusive for the 1943-1946 graduating classes. Similarly, the yearbook was not published in 2015 and 2016, though the 2018 yearbook was inclusive for the 2017 and 2018 graduating classes.https://digitalcommons.onu.edu/onu_yearbooks/1023/thumbnail.jp
Trends in Acquiring New Members and Retaining Loyal Members at Rochester Regional Museums
Membership is a very important aspect of many organizations like the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG), The Strong (TS), and the Seneca Park Zoo (SPZ). Membership gives an organization a vital source of income and museums can also use those annual members as a built-in long-term donor pool if conversion of members into donors happens. Conversion means taking a member and having them donate an additional philanthropic gift on top of paying to be a museum member. Within an organization’s membership program, two aspects are inherent: acquisition of new members to the organization as well as retention of its current members. While many organizations are trying to streamline cost and staffing, certain other aspects may need to be reprioritized. This thesis considers the budget allocated to membership at three Rochester museums and collecting institutions, the structure and focus of Rochester-based membership departments as part of the organization, as well as the location in which the membership department is housed within the institution. A key question of this study is whether membership activities are the primary focus of a dedicated membership coordinator or are a secondary job for another department within the museum setting? Using data from 2012, 2013, and 2014 the researcher reviews membership changes to illustrate current practices of new member acquisition and the retention of current members. The effectiveness of these methods will also being examined. After analyzing and interpreting the data, the researcher has generated a cost vs. dollars raised comparison for the last three years that will be used to suggest how these, and other similar organizations, might better focus resources to increase effectiveness in new member acquisition and retention of members
