This study begins from the problem of low skills learning ability to compose Elementary literature in PGSD departement of Bung Hatta University. It can be seen from the results of  students’ mid semester test, observation, and interviews with faculty to compose literature Skills in elementary course. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of an active learning model type of card sort to compose skills to elementary school's student in PGSD Department and to know the results of learning skills to compose an Elementary course-students after being taught by active learning model type of card sort. This type of research was a Quasi Experimental study. The populations were all students in PGSD department Academic Year 2015/2016.The Data collection techniques in this study used questionnaires of learning motivation and learning skills tests to compose Elementary literature in PGSD. The Data analysis techniques used in this study were  t-test and ANOVA. Based on the findings, we concluded that first learning skills to compose elementary literature students who use active learning model type of card sort was higher than in convenetional than students who used conventional learning either seen as a whole or from high and low learning motivation. Second, there was no interaction between the learning motivation to learn the skills of learning to compose Elementary literature of PGSD students. It means that active learning model type of card sort gave good effect on learning skilss to compose Elementary literature of PGSD students.

    Learning Parameterized Skills

We introduce a method for constructing skills capable of solving tasks drawn from a distribution of parameterized reinforcement learning problems. The method draws example tasks from a distribution of interest and uses the corresponding learned policies to estimate the topology of the lower-dimensional piecewise-smooth manifold on which the skill policies lie. This manifold models how policy parameters change as task parameters vary. The method identifies the number of charts that compose the manifold and then applies non-linear regression in each chart to construct a parameterized skill by predicting policy parameters from task parameters. We evaluate our method on an underactuated simulated robotic arm tasked with learning to accurately throw darts at a parameterized target location.Comment: Appears in Proceedings of the 29th International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2012

Changes in Student Proving Skills and Attitudes Following a Cooperative Learning Seminar

This dissertation details research studies designed to explore undergraduate math students beliefs and attitudes about mathematical proof, ability to compose valid proofs, and ability to read and validate purported proofs written by other students. In two studies, a cohort of seminar participants were assessed twice on their attitudes and beliefs about mathematical proof, their ability to compose proofs, and their ability to validate arguments. Between assessments, these participants worked on carefully crafted problem sets in a Cooperative Learning environment. In each study, a cohort of comparison participants took both assessments but did not engage in structured, cooperative work in the interim. Results from both studies showed little change in participants\u27 attitudes, and varied changes in validation skills. However, in both studies, most seminar participants\u27 composition skills improved from pre-assessment to post-assessment. The composition results are consistent with the researcher\u27s hypothesis that working in a Cooperative Learning environment on carefully chosen problem sets can help students develop their proof writing abilities. Additionally, because the content area of the assessments (number theory) and seminar problem sets (functions) were distinct, the demonstrated improvement of the seminar participants supports the hypothesis that some proof skills can be transferred across distinct mathematical contexts. The composition and validation results from both studies call into question how proof composition and validation skills are related, as many participants demonstrated improved proof composition skills but did not show improvement in proof validation skills

This study investigates the needs of English I for first-semester students at the Islamic Education Department and suggests an English I syllabus based on needs analysis for Islamic Education Department at STAI Al-GAzali Soppeng. This study employed a development research design and simple random and purposive sampling data from 50 students, five graduates, two lecturers, and one curriculum coordinator. The instruments for this study were questionnaires and interviews. The data were gathered through questionnaires by implementing Scala-Likert and were descriptively analyzed. The result shows that (1) students’ ability to learn English I is “poor” in pronunciation. (2) Students’ problems are complex in an oral presentation on learning speaking skills, difficult to understand native speakers on learning the listening skills, difficult to guess the core meaning of the text on learning reading skills, and difficult to compose correct sentences on learning writing. (3) Students prioritize learning preference, preferred topic, and learning style. Dialogue is speaking learning preference. The translation is reading learning preferences, learning from the rules of authorship is writing learning preferences, and listening and practising are listening learning preferences. The preferred topic is Islamic education and the discussion on learning style

Pedagogical Techniques that Provide Educational Value to Social Work Students through Bereavement Academics and Empathetic Advancements

The lack of empathy in college students has been documented and empathy levels are reported to have declined over recent years. College student bereavement has not been well-researched (Balk, 2008) but the lack of declining college student empathy has documentation in psychological expressions (Balk, 2008). This article addresses social work students engaged in an academic bereavement assignment that incorporates student centered instruction (SCI) and “teaching through relationships.” Using an untimely social work students’ death, students utilize research, reflection, cooperative small group learning, and applied theory, to compose a writing assignment. Intentionally introducing the “sorrowful empty chair” in the bereavement assignment led to reflective thoughts that are equal to empathy and shows a reflection model in production. Applying theoretical framework to current events aids students understanding of theory. While current events’ research improves student research skills as well as their theoretical understanding, the application of theoretical frameworks and current events with research, leads to an increase in student devotion and commitment to produce good work

Writing is a skill taught in learning Arabic. The learning aims to make students skilled in expressing ideas, Ideas and feelings in Arabic in writing. Writing skills training must always be directed towards the learning objectives with indicators of learning success, namely (1) being able to copy the sounds of words, phrases and sentences according to the language structure; (2) able to answer questions according to the reading text and sort them into good paragraphs; and (3) able to express ideas or compose both in a guided and free manner using vocabulary according to the specified theme. The third indicator is the attainment of the highest level of learning in Arabic Maharah Kitabah.
