    Diagnosis of tidal turbine vibration data through deep neural networks

    Tidal power is an emerging field of renewable energy, harnessing the power of regular and predictable tidal currents. However, maintenance of submerged equipment is a major challenge. Routine visual inspections of equipment must be performed onshore, requiring the costly removal of turbines from the sea bed and resulting in long periods of downtime. The development of condition monitoring techniques providing automated fault detection can therefore be extremely beneficial to this industry, reducing the dependency on inspections and allowing maintenance to be planned efficiently. This paper investigates the use of deep learning approaches for fault detection within a tidal turbine's generator from vibration data. Training and testing data were recorded over two deployment periods of operation from an accelerometer sensor placed within the nacelle of the turbine, representing ideal and faulty responses over a range of operating conditions. The paper evaluates a deep learning approach through a stacked autoencoder network in comparison to feature-based classification methods, where features have been extracted over varying rotation speeds through the Vold-Kalma filter

    Generative Adversarial Networks Selection Approach for Extremely Imbalanced Fault Diagnosis of Reciprocating Machinery

    At present, countless approaches to fault diagnosis in reciprocating machines have been proposed, all considering that the available machinery dataset is in equal proportions for all conditions. However, when the application is closer to reality, the problem of data imbalance is increasingly evident. In this paper, we propose a method for the creation of diagnoses that consider an extreme imbalance in the available data. Our approach first processes the vibration signals of the machine using a wavelet packet transform-based feature-extraction stage. Then, improved generative models are obtained with a dissimilarity-based model selection to artificially balance the dataset. Finally, a Random Forest classifier is created to address the diagnostic task. This methodology provides a considerable improvement with 99% of data imbalance over other approaches reported in the literature, showing performance similar to that obtained with a balanced set of data.National Natural Science Foundation of China, under Grant 51605406National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 7180104

    Transfer Learning Based Fault Detection for Suspension System Using Vibrational Analysis and Radar Plots

    The suspension system is of paramount importance in any automobile. Thanks to the suspension system, every journey benefits from pleasant rides, stable driving and precise handling. However, the suspension system is prone to faults that can significantly impact the driving quality of the vehicle. This makes it essential to find and diagnose any faults in the suspension system and rectify them immediately. Numerous techniques have been used to identify and diagnose suspension faults, each with drawbacks. This paper’s proposed suspension fault detection system aims to detect these faults using deep transfer learning techniques instead of the time-consuming and expensive conventional methods. This paper used pre-trained networks such as Alex Net, ResNet-50, Google Net and VGG16 to identify the faults using radar plots of the vibration signals generated by the suspension system in eight cases. The vibration data were acquired using an accelerometer and data acquisition system placed on a test rig for eight different test conditions (seven faulty, one good). The deep learning model with the highest accuracy in identifying and detecting faults among the four models was chosen and adopted to find defects. The results state that VGG16 produced the highest classification accuracy of 96.70%

    Deep Learning Aided Data-Driven Fault Diagnosis of Rotatory Machine: A Comprehensive Review

    This paper presents a comprehensive review of the developments made in rotating bearing fault diagnosis, a crucial component of a rotatory machine, during the past decade. A data-driven fault diagnosis framework consists of data acquisition, feature extraction/feature learning, and decision making based on shallow/deep learning algorithms. In this review paper, various signal processing techniques, classical machine learning approaches, and deep learning algorithms used for bearing fault diagnosis have been discussed. Moreover, highlights of the available public datasets that have been widely used in bearing fault diagnosis experiments, such as Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Paderborn University Bearing, PRONOSTIA, and Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS), are discussed in this paper.     Multi-layer neural network with deep belief network for gearbox fault diagnosis

    Identifying gearbox damage categories, especially for early faults and combined faults, is a challenging task in gearbox fault diagnosis. This paper presents multiple classifiers based on multi-layer neural networks (MLNN) to implement vibration signals for fault diagnosis in gearbox. A MLNN-based learning architecture using deep belief network (MLNNDBN) is proposed for gearbox fault diagnosis. Training process of the proposed learning architecture includes two stages: A deep belief network is constructed firstly, and then is trained; after a certain amount of epochs, the weights of deep belief network are used to initialize the weights of the constructed MLNN; at last, the trained MLNN is used as classifiers to classify gearbox faults. Multidimensional feature sets including time-domain, frequency-domain features are extracted to reveal gear health conditions. Experiments with different combined faults were conducted, and the vibration signals were captured under different loads and motor speeds. To confirm the superiority of MLNNDBN in fault classification, its performance is compared with other MLNN-based methods with different fine-tuning schemes and relevant vector machine. The achieved accuracy indicates that the proposed approach is highly reliable and applicable in fault diagnosis of industrial reciprocating machinery

    Evaluation of Bearing Fault Detection on Different _K-Folds using Deep Learning Ensemble Models

    One of the most crucial parts of contemporary machinery and industrial equipment is the induction motor. Therefore, it is essential to create a fault diagnosis system that can identify induction motor problems and operating circumstances before they become serious. In this study, an induction motor's defect diagnosis is carried out in three different states, including normal, rotor fault, and bearing fault. The suggested fault diagnostic system is also described, along with a GUI. The experimental findings support the suitability of the suggested approach for rotor and bearing defects in induction motor diagnosis. A GUI for defect diagnostics was also created and used in a real-world setting. We have used Chi-Square method for high score attributes values. For the normal, rotor fault, and bearing fault states of induction motors identified by DBN, CNN, SNN, SVM and RF respectively, the fault detection system's accuracy in the actual world. In the experiment, we find Algorithms model-II, K-Folds (5, 10 & 15) , Accuracy (%), Training loss, Validation loss value for RF-SVM-CNN are 89.2, 0.260013, 0.304936 for k fold 5, 98.4, 0.155960, 0.154133 for k-fold 10 and 98.3, 0.155759, 0.144127 for k- fold 15 respectively
