This paper presents a document representation strategy and a bio-inspired algorithm to cluster multilingual collections of documents in the field of economics and business. The proposed approach allows the user to identify groups of related economics documents written in Spanish and English using techniques inspired on clustering and sorting behaviours observed in some types of ants. In order to obtain a language independent vector representation of each document two multilingual resources are used: an economic glossary and a thesaurus. Each document is represented using four feature vectors: words, proper names, economic terms in the glossary and thesaurus descriptors. The proper name identification, word extraction and lemmatization are performed using specific tools. The tf-idf scheme is used to measure the importance of each feature in the document, and a convex linear combination of angular separations between feature vectors is used as similarity measure of documents. The paper shows experimental results of the application of the proposed algorithm in a Spanish-English corpus of research papers in economics and management areas. The results demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the ant clustering algorithm and the proposed representation scheme. This work has been partially supported by SistIngAlfa project, ref: ALFA II-0321-FA of the European Union and Project Ref. With the explosive growth in amount of information, it is highly required to utilize tools and methods in order to search, filter and manage resources. One of the major problems in text classification relates to the high dimensional feature spaces. Therefore, the main goal of text classification is to reduce the dimensionality of features space. There are many feature selection methods. However, only a few methods are utilized for huge text classification problems. In this paper, we propose a new wrapper method based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and Support Vector Machine (SVM). We combine it with Learning Automata in order to make it more efficient. This helps to select better features using the reward and penalty system of automata. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method, we compare it with a method which selects features based on Genetic Algorithm over the Reuters-21578 dataset. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm works more efficiently

Plant diseases is one of the major bottlenecks in agricultural production that have bad effects on the economic of any country. Automatic detection of such disease could minimize these effects. Features selection is a usual pre-processing step used for automatic disease detection systems. It is an important process for detecting and eliminating noisy, irrelevant, and redundant data. Thus, it could lead to improve the detection performance. In this paper, an improved moth-flame approach to automatically detect tomato diseases was proposed. The moth-flame fitness function depends on the rough sets dependency degree and it takes into a consideration the number of selected features. The proposed algorithm used both of the power of exploration of the moth flame and the high performance of rough sets for the feature selection task to find the set of features maximizing the classification accuracy which was evaluated using the support vector machine (SVM). The performance of the MFORSFS algorithm was evaluated using many benchmark datasets taken from UCI machine learning data repository and then compared with feature selection approaches based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithms (GA) with rough sets. The proposed algorithm was then used in a real-life problem, detecting tomato diseases (Powdery mildew and early blight) where a real dataset of tomato disease were manually built and a tomato disease detection approach was proposed and evaluated using this dataset. The experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm was efficient in terms of Recall, Precision, Accuracy and F-Score, as long as feature size reduction and execution time

An enhanced binary bat and Markov clustering algorithms to improve event detection for heterogeneous news text documents

Event Detection (ED) works on identifying events from various types of data. Building an ED model for news text documents greatly helps decision-makers in various disciplines in improving their strategies. However, identifying and summarizing events from such data is a non-trivial task due to the large volume of published heterogeneous news text documents. Such documents create a high-dimensional feature space that influences the overall performance of the baseline methods in ED model. To address such a problem, this research presents an enhanced ED model that includes improved methods for the crucial phases of the ED model such as Feature Selection (FS), ED, and summarization. This work focuses on the FS problem by automatically detecting events through a novel wrapper FS method based on Adapted Binary Bat Algorithm (ABBA) and Adapted Markov Clustering Algorithm (AMCL), termed ABBA-AMCL. These adaptive techniques were developed to overcome the premature convergence in BBA and fast convergence rate in MCL. Furthermore, this study proposes four summarizing methods to generate informative summaries. The enhanced ED model was tested on 10 benchmark datasets and 2 Facebook news datasets. The effectiveness of ABBA-AMCL was compared to 8 FS methods based on meta-heuristic algorithms and 6 graph-based ED methods. The empirical and statistical results proved that ABBAAMCL surpassed other methods on most datasets. The key representative features demonstrated that ABBA-AMCL method successfully detects real-world events from Facebook news datasets with 0.96 Precision and 1 Recall for dataset 11, while for dataset 12, the Precision is 1 and Recall is 0.76. To conclude, the novel ABBA-AMCL presented in this research has successfully bridged the research gap and resolved the curse of high dimensionality feature space for heterogeneous news text documents. Hence, the enhanced ED model can organize news documents into distinct events and provide policymakers with valuable information for decision making

A New Feature Selection Method based on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Entropy to Categorize Text Documents

Selection of highly discriminative feature in text document plays a major challenging role in categorization. Feature selection is an important task that involves dimensionality reduction of feature matrix, which in turn enhances the performance of categorization. This article presents a new feature selection method based on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Entropy (IFE) for Text Categorization. Firstly, Intuitionistic Fuzzy C-Means (IFCM) clustering method is employed to compute the intuitionistic membership values. The computed intuitionistic membership values are used to estimate intuitionistic fuzzy entropy via Match degree. Further, features with lower entropy values are selected to categorize the text documents. To find the efficacy of the proposed method, experiments are conducted on three standard benchmark datasets using three classifiers. F-measure is used to assess the performance of the classifiers. The proposed method shows impressive results as compared to other well known feature selection methods. Moreover, Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IFS) property addresses the uncertainty limitations of traditional fuzzy set
