Evaluation of Arrowhead Framework in Condition Monitoring Application
The technological advancement in the field of electronics and information technology is changing how industrial automation systems are built. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. However, before this prophecy on the change can manifest, new architectural solutions are needed to fully leverage the abilities brought by cheaper sensors, more advanced communication technology and more powerful processing units.
The Arrowhead Framework tries to tackle this problem by providing means for Service-oriented architecture via System-of-Systems approach, where so-called application systems consume services provided by so-called core systems, which provide means for service discovery, service registration and service authorization.
The goal of the thesis was to evaluate The Arrowhead Framework by developing a demo application on the edge-cloud setup used in the condition monitoring system of vibrating screens manufactured by Metso. The demo applications objective was to ease the configuration and installation of industrial Linux PCâs at the edge of the network.
The methodological model for the evaluation was based on the design science research process (DSRP), which provides a model for research of IT artefacts. As a result, the Arrowhead Frameworkâs core features were found helpful in the problem domain, and suitable for small-scale test setup. However, the implementation of the framework was found to be low quality and lacking features from a production-ready software artefact. The found shortcomings were reported as feedback for the ongoing development process of the framework
The Future of Financial Systems in the Digital Age
This book is open access, which means that you have free and unlimited access. The increasing capacity of digital networks and computing power, together with the resulting connectivity and availability of âbig dataâ, are impacting financial systems worldwide with rapidly advancing deep-learning algorithms and distributed ledger technologies. They transform the structure and performance of financial markets, the service proposition of financial products, the organization of payment systems, the business models of banks, insurance companies and other financial service providers, as well as the design of money supply regimes and central banking. This book, The Future of Financial Systems in the Digital Age: Perspectives from Europe and Japan, brings together leading scholars, policymakers, and regulators from Japan and Europe, all with a profound and long professional background in the field of finance, to analyze the digital transformation of the financial system. The authors analyze the impact of digitalization on the financial system from different perspectives such as transaction costs and with regard to specific topics like the potential of digital and blockchain-based currency systems, the role of algorithmic trading, obstacles in the use of cashless payments, the challenges of regulatory oversight, and the transformation of banking business models. The collection of chapters offers insights from Japanese and European discourses, approaches, and experiences on a topic otherwise dominated by studies about developments in the USA and China

Effective Strategies Small Retail Leaders Use to Engage Employees
Research suggests that 70% of North American employees are disengaged in the workplace. Some small retail managers lack strategies for engaging employees. Using the employee engagement framework, the purpose of this descriptive case study was to explore successful strategies that small retail managers use to engage employees. The target population was small retail leaders, purposefully selected because of their success with engaging employees at an Orlando, Florida, company. Data collection was through face-to-face interviews with 5 leaders; and a review of archived organizational documents, including company memorandums, central email software, and online customer reviews through social media websites such as Google, Yelp, and Facebook posts. Data were analyzed using inductive coding of phrases and words from participant interviews, whereas secondary data were collected from participant memorandums, the company website, central email software, and online social media posts supporting the theme interpretation through methodological triangulation. The findings on these Orlando leaders revealed that supportive leaders improved employee engagement, direct communication improved employee engagement, and training improved employee performance. Improving employee engagement contributes to social change because small retail managers can use the findings to improve employee engagement through the implementation of effective strategies, direct communication, and training initiatives
The Normative Order of the Internet: A Theory of Rule and Regulation Online
There is order on the internet, but how has this order emerged and what challenges will threaten and shape its future? This study shows how a legitimate order of norms has emerged online, through both national and international legal systems. It establishes the emergence of a normative order of the internet, an order which explains and justifies processes of online rule and regulation. This order integrates norms at three different levels (regional, national, international), of two types (privately and publicly authored), and of different character (from ius cogens to technical standards). The author assesses their internal coherence, their consonance with other order norms and their consistency with the order's finality. The normative order of the internet is based on and produces a liquefied system characterized by self-learning normativity. In light of the importance of the socio-communicative online space, this is a book for anyone interested in understanding the contemporary development of the internet.
The Treatment of Advanced Persistent Threats on Windows Based Systems
Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) is the name given to individuals or groups
who write malicious software (malware) and who have the intent to perform actions
detrimental to the victim or the victims' organisation. This thesis investigates ways in
which it is possible to treat APTs before, during and after the malware has been laid
down on the victim's computer. The scope of the thesis is restricted to desktop and
laptop computers with hard disk drives. APTs have different motivations for their
work and this thesis is agnostic towards their origin and intent.
Anti-malware companies freely present the work of APTs in many ways but
summarise mainly in the form of white papers. Individually, pieces of these works
give an incomplete picture of an APT but in aggregate it is possible to construct a
view of APT families and pan-APT commonalities by comparing and contrasting the
work of many anti-malware companies; it as if there are alot of the pieces of a jigsaw
puzzle but there is no box lid available with the complete picture. In addition,
academic papers provide proof of concept attacks and observations, some of which
may become used by malware writers. Gaps in, and extensions to, the public
knowledge may be filled through inference, implication, interpolation and
extrapolation and form the basis for this thesis.
The thesis presents a view of where APTs lie on windows-based systems. It
uses this view to create and build generic views of where APTs lie on Hard Disc
Drives on Windows based systems using the Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill Chain.
This is then used to treat APTs on Windows based IT systems using purpose-built
software in such a way that the malware is negated by. The thesis does not claim to find all malware on but it demonstrates how to increase the cost of doing business for APTs, for example by overwriting unused disc space so APTs cannot place malware there.
The software developed was able to find Indicators of Compromise on all eight Hard Disc Drives provided for analysis. Separately, from a corpus of 228 files
known to be associated with malware it identified approximately two thirds as Indicators of Compromise
