Evaluating the integration of supply chain information systems: A case study
Supply chain management (SCM) is the integrated management of business links, information flows and people. It is with this frame of reference that information systems integration from both intra- and inter-organisational levels becomes significant. Enterprise application integration (EAI) has emerged as software technologies to address the issue of integrating the portfolio of SCM components both within organisations and through cross-enterprises. EAI is based on a diversity of integration technologies (e.g. message brokers, ebXML) that differ in the type and level of integration they offer. However, none of these technologies claim to be a panacea to overcoming all integration problems but rather,
need to be pieced together to support the linking of diverse applications that often exist within supply chains. In exploring the evaluation of supply chain integration, the authors propose a framework for evaluating the portfolio of integration technologies that are used to unify inter-organisational and intra-organisational information systems. The authors define and classify the permutations of information systems available according to their characteristics and integration requirements. These, classifications of system types are then adopted as part of the evaluation framework and empirically tested within a case study
Personalized information systems : enabling technologies and architecture
Personalized Information Systems are ICT applications that exhibit personalized behaviour, adjusted to the preferences or needs of their users. Personalized Information Systems can bring up business benefits related to customer relationship or to increased efficiency of organizational work.
This work characterizes the Personalized Information Systems in what concerns types of personalized features, presents the enabling technologies, and suggests a general architecture for Personalized Information Systems.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT
Implementing Operations Support Systems in E-Health Based Systems
Information and communication technologies have been introduced in different dimensions
of the health care. e-Health is the use of advanced communications technologies such as
the Internet, portable, wireless and other sophisticated devices to support health care
delivery and education. It has the potentials of improving the efficiency of health care
delivery globally.
With the increasing demand for information at the point of care, health care providers
could explore the advances provided by mobile technologies and the increasing
capabilities, compactness and pervasiveness of computing devices to adopt operations
supports systems (OSS) in e-Health based systems in order to provide efficient services and
enhance their performances.
In this paper, we present, the development and implementation of operations supports in e-
Health based systems. The system promises to deliver greater productivity for health care

E-Commerce Technologies and Information Systems Curricula
The World Wide Web (WWW), as the platform for E-Commerce, is the breeding ground for innovative applications. It is also providing the impetus for development of newer building blocks of information systems (IS) platforms. Today, novel applications such as push-type delivery of information, television style channels, multimedia mail attachments, desktop video-conferencing, and other examples of electronic commerce exist on the web. None of these was in wide use even as late as 1996. How are these technologies different from host-based and client/server technologies? What is the impact, if any, of these technologies on the skills set that IS majors need to have? This paper attempts an answer to the above questions by adopting an adult learning framework. Using the framework, we trace the impact of technology changes on skill requirements and the curricula. An appreciation of the fundamental differences that separate host-based, client/server and web-based platforms and E- Commerce applications can help in understanding this impact
Practical cryptographic strategies in the post-quantum era
We review new frontiers in information security technologies in
communications and distributed storage technologies with the use of classical,
quantum, hybrid classical-quantum, and post-quantum cryptography. We analyze
the current state-of-the-art, critical characteristics, development trends, and
limitations of these techniques for application in enterprise information
protection systems. An approach concerning the selection of practical
encryption technologies for enterprises with branched communication networks is
introduced.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; review pape
