    STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE OF NETWORKED CONTROL SYSTEMS

    Network control systems (NCSs), as one of the most active research areas, are arousing comprehensive concerns along with the rapid development of network. This dissertation mainly discusses the stability and performance of NCSs into the following two parts. In the first part, a new approach is proposed to reduce the data transmitted in networked control systems (NCSs) via model reduction method. Up to our best knowledge, we are the first to propose this new approach in the scientific and engineering society. The "unimportant" information of system states vector is truncated by balanced truncation method (BTM) before sending to the networked controller via network based on the balance property of the remote controlled plant controllability and observability. Then, the exponential stability condition of the truncated NCSs is derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. This method of data truncation can usually reduce the time delay and further improve the performance of the NCSs. In addition, all the above results are extended to the switched NCSs. The second part presents a new robust sliding mode control (SMC) method for general uncertain time-varying delay stochastic systems with structural uncertainties and the Brownian noise (Wiener process). The key features of the proposed method are to apply singular value decomposition (SVD) to all structural uncertainties, to introduce adjustable parameters for control design along with the SMC method, and new Lyapunov-type functional. Then, a less-conservative condition for robust stability and a new robust controller for the general uncertain stochastic systems are derived via linear matrix inequality (LMI) forms. The system states are able to reach the SMC switching surface as guaranteed in probability 1 by the proposed control rule. Furthermore, the novel Lyapunov-type functional for the uncertain stochastic systems is used to design a new robust control for the general case where the derivative of time-varying delay can be any bounded value (e.g., greater than one). It is theoretically proved that the conservatism of the proposed method is less than the previous methods. All theoretical proofs are presented in the dissertation. The simulations validate the correctness of the theoretical results and have better performance than the existing results

    Influence and Optimization of Packet Loss on the Internet-Based Geographically Distributed Test Platform for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Powertrain Systems

    In view of recent developments in fuel cell electric vehicle powertrain systems, Internet-based geographically distributed test platforms for fuel cell electric vehicle powertrain systems become a development and validation trend. Due to the involvement of remote connection and the Internet, simulation with connected models can suffer great uncertainty because of packet loss. Such a test platform, including packet loss characteristics, was built using MATLAB/Simulink for use in this paper. The simulation analysis results show that packet loss affects the stability of the whole test system. The impact on vehicle speed is mainly concentrated in the later stage of simulation. Aiming at reducing the effect of packet loss caused by Internet, a robust model predictive compensator was designed. Under this compensator, the stability of the system is greatly improved compared to the system without a compensator

Um dos principais desafios em redes sem fio é a perda de pacote induzida pela rede, pois impactará no desempenho do sistema, podendo causar a sua instabilidade. O filtro de Kalman unscented, é utilizado para tratar o problema de estimação nesta tese, em que as propriedades estatísticas de convergência do filtro de Kalman unscented são analisadas, mostrando a existência de um valor crítico para a chegada de observações em torno do qual a covariância do erro de estimação diverge. Inicialmente, as equações do filtro de Kalman unscented são redefinidas quando o sistema de controle via rede está sujeito a perdas de pacotes, logo em seguida, é apresentado o teorema que mostra a existência de um valor crítico para a taxa de chegada de pacotes, em torno da qual a covariância do erro de estimação diverge. Finalmente, o método proposto é aplicado em um sistema de teleoperação, uma vez que este tipo de sistema utiliza um rede de comunicação para interligar seus componentes, sendo assim, um exemplo de aplicação real de um sistema de controle que utiliza uma rede de comunicação para interligar seus componentes.Abstract : This thesis, the problem of estimation in a wireless networked control systems is treated. One of themain challenges in wireless networks is packet loss induced by the network as impact on system performance and may cause instability. The unscented Kalman filter, is used to treat the estimation problem in this thesis, where the statistical properties of convergence of the unscented Kalman filter are analyzed, showing the existence of a critical value for the arrival of observations around which the covariance of the estimation error diverges. Initially, the equations of the unscented Kalman filter are redefined to a networked control system with packet losses, for this system is presented the theorem that shows a critical value for the rate of packet loss, around the covariance estimation error diverge. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a teleoperation system, since this type of system uses a communication network for interconnecting components, and thus a real application example of a control system utilizing a communication network to interconnect their components

    This article reviews some main results and progress in distributed multi-agent coordination, focusing on papers published in major control systems and robotics journals since 2006. Distributed coordination of multiple vehicles, including unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles and unmanned underwater vehicles, has been a very active research subject studied extensively by the systems and control community. The recent results in this area are categorized into several directions, such as consensus, formation control, optimization, task assignment, and estimation. After the review, a short discussion section is included to summarize the existing research and to propose several promising research directions along with some open problems that are deemed important for further investigations
