A general stability criterion for switched linear systems having stable and unstable subsystems
We report conditions on a switching signal that guarantee that solutions of a
switched linear systems converge asymptotically to zero. These conditions are
apply to continuous, discrete-time and hybrid switched linear systems, both
those having stable subsystems and mixtures of stable and unstable subsystems
Tools for Stability of Switching Linear Systems: Gain Automata and Delay Compensation.
The topic of this paper is the analysis of stability for a class of switched linear systems, modeled by hybrid automata. In each location of the hybrid automaton the dynamics is assumed to be linear and asymptotically stable; the guards on the transitions are hyperplanes in the state space. For each location an estimate is made of the gain via a Lyapunov function for the dynamics in that location, given a pair of ingoing and outgoing transitions. It is shown how to obtain the best possible estimate by optimizing the Lyapunov function. The estimated gains are used in defining a so-called gain automaton that forms the basis of an algorithmic criterion for the stability of the hybrid automaton. The associated gain automaton provides a systematic tool to detect potential sources of instability as well as an indication on to how to stabilize the hybrid systems by requiring appropriate delays for specific transitions
Exponential Synchronization of Complex Delayed Dynamical Networks With Switching Topology
This paper studies the local and global exponential synchronization of a complex dynamical network with switching topology and time-varying coupling delays. By using stability theory of switched systems and the network topology, the synchronization of such a network under some special switching signals is investigated. Firstly, under the assumption that all subnetworks are self-synchronizing, a delay-dependent sufficient condition is given in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which guarantees the solvability of the local synchronization problem under an average dwell time scheme. Then this result is extended to the situation that not all subnetworks are self-synchronizing. For the latter case, in addition to average dwell time, an extra condition on the ratio of the total activation time of self-synchronizing and nonsynchronizing subnetworks is needed to achieve synchronization of the entire switched network. The global synchronization of a network whose isolate dynamics is of a particular form is also studied. Three different examples of delayed dynamical networks with switching topology are given, which demonstrate the effectiveness of obtained results. © 2006 IEEE.published_or_final_versio
Robust Fault Detection of Switched Linear Systems with State Delays
This correspondence deals with the problem of robust fault detection for discrete-time switched systems with state delays under an arbitrary switching signal. The fault detection filter is used as the residual generator, in which the filter parameters are dependent on the system mode. Attention is focused on designing the robust fault detection filter such that, for unknown inputs, control inputs, and model uncertainties, the estimation error between the residuals and faults is minimized. The problem of robust fault detection is converted into an H infin-filtering problem. By a switched Lyapunov functional approach, a sufficient condition for the solvability of this problem is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method
Dwell-time computation for stability of switched systems with time delays
Cataloged from PDF version of article. The aim of this study is to find an improved dwell time that guarantees the stability of switched systems with heterogeneous constant time-delays. Piecewise Lyapunov-Krasovkii functionals are used for each candidate system to investigate the stability of the switched time-delayed system. Under the assumption that each candidate system is stable for small delay values, a sufficient condition for dwell-time that guarantees the asymptotic stability is derived. Numerical examples are given to compare the results with the previously obtained dwell-time bounds. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013

A virtual actuator approach for the secure control of networked LPV systems under pulse-width modulated DoS attacks
In this paper, we formulate and analyze the problem of secure control in the context of networked linear parameter varying (LPV) systems. We consider an energy-constrained, pulse-width modulated (PWM) jammer, which corrupts the control communication channel by performing a denial-of-service (DoS) attack. In particular, the malicious attacker is able to erase the data sent to one or more actuators. In order to achieve secure control, we propose a virtual actuator technique under the assumption that the behavior of the attacker has been identified. The main advantage brought by this technique is that the existing components in the control system can be maintained without need of retuning them, since the virtual actuator will perform a reconfiguration of the plant, hiding the attack from the controller point of view. Using Lyapunov-based results that take into account the possible behavior of the attacker, design conditions for calculating the virtual actuators gains are obtained. A numerical example is used to illustrate the proposed secure control strategy.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
