Towards a Reliable Framework of Uncertainty-Based Group Decision Support System

This study proposes a framework of Uncertainty-based Group Decision Support System (UGDSS). It provides a platform for multiple criteria decision analysis in six aspects including (1) decision environment, (2) decision problem, (3) decision group, (4) decision conflict, (5) decision schemes and (6) group negotiation. Based on multiple artificial intelligent technologies, this framework provides reliable support for the comprehensive manipulation of applications and advanced decision approaches through the design of an integrated multi-agents architecture.Comment: Accepted paper in IEEE-ICDM2010; Print ISBN: 978-1-4244-9244-

Decision support system for building information modeling (BIM) software selection: A case study in construction feasibility stage

    Get PDF
The adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software has proven to be beneficial to the construction industry to improve the design, analysis, construction, operation and data management. Due to the variety of BIM software on the market, choosing the right BIM software in construction projects is deemed to be a complicated decision making process. Previous studies revealed that software selection is mainly made based on popularity and recommendation from other companies. Consequently, inaccurate selection would lead to the underutilised features and negative effect the investment on the BIM software. Based on literature, there is a lack of systematic approach to select the right BIM software for specific project requirements. This highlights the needs for decision making tools to select the appropriate BIM software. This research aims to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) named topsis4BIM which integrates graphical user interfaces, BIM features database, Fuzzy TOPSIS and Web 2.0 tools. A real construction project was used as a case study for demonstrating and validating the DSS framework. The findings indicate that the use of topsis4BIM improves the BIM software selection process compared to the current practice. In addition, it also produce a new framework for the next generation DSS using Web 2.0 tools. The study introduces an innovative and economical decision making approach that can guide construction practitioners towards the betterment of BIM adoption

The article is devoted to the problem of multi-criteria decision making. As application problem is used the software selection problem. The analysis of existing methods for solving this problem is given. As a method for solving this problem, the most popular fuzzy AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process) is proposed. This method use original algorithm for pairwise comparison of criteria and alternatives. The issues of practical implementation of this method are discussed in details. The results of the solution test problem at all stages are presented. The article is devoted to the problem of multi-criteria decision making. The main objective of this paper is to present a systematic review of the VlseKriterijuska Optimizacija I Komoromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method in several application areas such as sustainability and renewable energy. This study reviewed a total of 176 papers, published in 2004 to 2015, from 83 high-ranking journals; most of which were related to Operational Research, Management Sciences, decision making, sustainability and renewable energy and were extracted from the “Web of Science and Scopus” databases. Papers were classified into 15 main application areas. Furthermore, papers were categorized based on the nationalities of authors, dates of publications, techniques and methods, type of studies, the names of the journals and studies purposes. The results of this study indicated that more papers on VIKOR technique were published in 2013 than in any other year. In addition, 13 papers were published about sustainability and renewable energy fields. Furthermore, VIKOR and fuzzy VIKOR methods, had the first rank in use. Additionally, the Journal of Expert Systems with Applications was the most significant journal in this study, with 27 publications on the topic. Finally, Taiwan had the first rank from 22 nationalities which used VIKOR technique

A multicriteria decision model for the selection of information system for a logistics company using MMASSI/TI

The aim of this work is to apply a methodology of decision support based on a multi-criteria decision analyses (MCDA), model that allows the evaluation and selection of an information system in a Logistics context. We carried out a literature review on supply chain management, logistics and decision theory to support all the practical work. A multi-criteria methodology for decision making support – Multi-criteria Methodology for the Assessment and Selection of Information Systems / Information Technologies (MMASSI / IT) based on logistics processes was applied during the MCDA, supported by a computer application. The ranking of the information systems best suited the decisional context was obtained and its sensitivity and robustness analyses performed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Development and integration of environmental evaluation tools for the ecodesign of sustainable processes and products

    Get PDF
Industry is recognized as one of the main sources of environmental pollution and resource depletion, both causing environmental degradation; nonetheless, its contribution to development and wealth creation is also acknowledged. Therefore, the identification of sustainable options in this area is a key factor. Nowadays, the attitude towards pollution prevention and control and cleaner production is not just a response to emerging environmental laws and regulations (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals -REACH-, Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control –IPPC- Law, Integrated Product Policy –IPP-), but also a matter of corporate responsibility. Further, it has proved to be a way to increase profits. The sustainability definition has received certain criticism for its vagueness, ambiguity and difficulty to translate this concept at different levels. To overcome the difficulties of its implementation, a wide variety of indicators have been developed and applied over the years, providing metrics essential at the action level. This thesis poses a contribution to the development of environmental evaluation tools adapted to particular production sectors, aiming at providing metrics to guide decision making for the ecodesign of sustainable processes and products. Integrative frameworks that combine methodologies of different nature were proposed as the most suitable way to achieve comprehensive evaluations. At the same time, the simplicity of tools was pursued to make its application easier and more attractive for enterprises, avoiding the need of in depth training

Integration of MACBETH and COPRAS methods to select air compressor for a textile company

    Get PDF
The selection of air compressor is a Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem including conflicting criteria and various alternatives. Selecting the appropriate air compressor is an important decision for the company as it affects the energy consumption and operating cost. To aid the decision making process in the companies, MCDM methods are proposed in the literature. In all MCDM methods, the main goal is to select the best alternative or to rank a set of given alternatives. In this paper, the air compressor is selected for a spinning mill of a textile company with an integrated approach based on MACBETH (Measuring Attractiveness by a Categorical Based Evaluation TecHnique) and COPRAS (COmplex PRoportional ASsessment) methods. MACBETH method is utilized to determine the weights of the criteria. Then COPRAS method is used to determine the ranking of the alternatives and select the best one. © 2016 Growing Science Ltd. Multicriteria sorting method based on global and local search for supplier segmentation

[EN] The aim of this research is to develop a robust multicriteria method to classify suppliers into ordered cate-gories and its validation in real contexts. The proposed technique is based on a property of net flows of thePROMETHEE method and uses global and local search concepts, which are common in the optimisationfield. The results obtained are compared to those from the most cited sorting algorithm, and an empiricalvalidation and sensitivity analysis is performed using real supplier evaluation data. Furthermore, it does notrequire additional information from decision-makers as other sorting algorithms do for assigning incompa-rable or indifferent alternatives to groups. An extension of the silhouette concept from data mining is alsocontributed to measure the quality of ordered classes. Both contributions are easy to apply and integrate intodecision support systems for automated decisions in the supply chain management. Finally, this practicalapproach is also useful to classify customers and any type of alternatives or actions into ordered categories, which have an increasing number of real applications.Barrera, F.; Segura Maroto, M.; Maroto Álvarez, MC.
