Controller design for synchronization of an array of delayed neural networks using a controllable
This is the post-print version of the Article - Copyright @ 2011 ElsevierIn this paper, a controllable probabilistic particle swarm optimization (CPPSO) algorithm is introduced based on Bernoulli stochastic variables and a competitive penalized method. The CPPSO algorithm is proposed to solve optimization problems and is then applied to design the memoryless feedback controller, which is used in the synchronization of an array of delayed neural networks (DNNs). The learning strategies occur in a random way governed by Bernoulli stochastic variables. The expectations of Bernoulli stochastic variables are automatically updated by the search environment. The proposed method not only keeps the diversity of the swarm, but also maintains the rapid convergence of the CPPSO algorithm according to the competitive penalized mechanism. In addition, the convergence rate is improved because the inertia weight of each particle is automatically computed according to the feedback of fitness value. The efficiency of the proposed CPPSO algorithm is demonstrated by comparing it with some well-known PSO algorithms on benchmark test functions with and without rotations. In the end, the proposed CPPSO algorithm is used to design the controller for the synchronization of an array of continuous-time delayed neural networks. This research was partially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of PR China (Grant No 60874113), the Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education (Grant No 200802550007), the Key Creative Project of Shanghai Education Community (Grant No 09ZZ66), the Key Foundation

Stability analysis of impulsive stochastic Cohen–Grossberg neural networks with mixed time delays
This is the post print version of the article. The official published version can be obtained from the link - Copyright 2008 Elsevier LtdIn this paper, the problem of stability analysis for a class of impulsive stochastic Cohen–Grossberg neural networks with mixed delays is considered. The mixed time delays comprise both the time-varying and infinite distributed delays. By employing a combination of the M-matrix theory and stochastic analysis technique, a sufficient condition is obtained to ensure the existence, uniqueness, and exponential p-stability of the equilibrium point for the addressed impulsive stochastic Cohen–Grossberg neural network with mixed delays. The proposed method, which does not make use of the Lyapunov functional, is shown to be simple yet effective for analyzing the stability of impulsive or stochastic neural networks with variable and/or distributed delays. We then extend our main results to the case where the parameters contain interval uncertainties. Moreover, the exponential convergence rate index is estimated, which depends on the system parameters. An example is given to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. This work was supported by the Natural Science Foundation of CQ CSTC under grant 2007BB0430, the Scientific Research Fund of Chongqing Municipal Education Commission under Grant KJ070401, an International Joint Project sponsored by the Royal Society of the UK and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
Global Exponential Stability of Delayed Periodic Dynamical Systems
In this paper, we discuss delayed periodic dynamical systems, compare
capability of criteria of global exponential stability in terms of various
() norms. A general approach to investigate global
exponential stability in terms of various () norms is
given. Sufficient conditions ensuring global exponential stability are given,
too. Comparisons of various stability criteria are given. More importantly, it
is pointed out that sufficient conditions in terms of norm are enough
and easy to implement in practice
Limits and dynamics of stochastic neuronal networks with random heterogeneous delays
Realistic networks display heterogeneous transmission delays. We analyze here
the limits of large stochastic multi-populations networks with stochastic
coupling and random interconnection delays. We show that depending on the
nature of the delays distributions, a quenched or averaged propagation of chaos
takes place in these networks, and that the network equations converge towards
a delayed McKean-Vlasov equation with distributed delays. Our approach is
mostly fitted to neuroscience applications. We instantiate in particular a
classical neuronal model, the Wilson and Cowan system, and show that the
obtained limit equations have Gaussian solutions whose mean and standard
deviation satisfy a closed set of coupled delay differential equations in which
the distribution of delays and the noise levels appear as parameters. This
allows to uncover precisely the effects of noise, delays and coupling on the
dynamics of such heterogeneous networks, in particular their role in the
emergence of synchronized oscillations. We show in several examples that not
only the averaged delay, but also the dispersion, govern the dynamics of such
networks.Comment: Corrected misprint (useless stopping time) in proof of Lemma 1 and
clarified a regularity hypothesis (remark 1

The interconnection matrix and the activation functions are assumed to be norm-bounded. The problem addressed is to estimate the neuron states, through available output measurements, such that for all admissible time-delays, the dynamics of the estimation error is globally exponentially stable. An effective linear matrix inequality approach is developed to solve the neuron state estimation problem. In particular, we derive the conditions for the existence of the desired estimators for the delayed neural networks. We also parameterize the explicit expression of the set of desired estimators in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, it is shown that the main results can be easily extended to cope with the traditional stability analysis problem for delayed neural networks. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the applicability of the proposed design method

A delay-dependent LMI approach to dynamics analysis of discrete-time recurrent neural networks with time-varying delays
This is the post print version of the article. The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Elsevier Ltd.In this Letter, the analysis problem for the existence and stability of periodic solutions is investigated for a class of general discrete-time recurrent neural networks with time-varying delays. For the neural networks under study, a generalized activation function is considered, and the traditional assumptions on the boundedness, monotony and differentiability of the activation functions are removed. By employing the latest free-weighting matrix method, an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional is constructed and several sufficient conditions are established to ensure the existence, uniqueness, and globally exponential stability of the periodic solution for the addressed neural network. The conditions are dependent on both the lower bound and upper bound of the time-varying time delays. Furthermore, the conditions are expressed in terms of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which can be checked numerically using the effective LMI toolbox in MATLAB. Two simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness and less conservatism of the proposed criteria. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 50608072, an International Joint Project sponsored by the Royal Society of the UK and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
