    Strategic Vagueness and Appropriate Contexts

    This paper brings together several approaches to vagueness, and ends by suggesting a new approach. The common thread in these approaches is the crucial role played by context. Using a single example where there is a conflict of interest between speaker and listener, we start by treating game-theoretic rationales for vagueness, and for the related concepts of generality and ambiguity. We argue that the most plausible application of these models to vagueness in natural language is one where the listener only imperfectly observes the context in which the speaker makes her utterances. We next look at a rationale for vagueness when there is no conflict between speaker and listener, and which is an application of Horn's rule. Further, we tackle the Sorites paradox. This paradox apparently violates standard axioms of rational behaviour. Yet, once it is taken into account that vague language is used in an appropriate context, these axioms are no longer violated. We end with a behavioural approach to vagueness, where context directly enters agents. preferences. In an application of prospect theory, agents think in terms of gains and losses with respect to a reference point.     Adaptive Fuzzy Game-based Energy Efficient Localization in 3D Underwater Sensor Networks

    Numerous applications in 3D underwater sensor networks (UWSNs), such as pollution detection, disaster prevention, animal monitoring, navigation assistance, and submarines tracking, heavily rely on accurate localization techniques. However, due to the limited batteries of sensor nodes and the di!culty for energy harvesting in UWSNs, it is challenging to localize sensor nodes successfully within a short sensor node lifetime in an unspeci"ed underwater environment. Therefore, we propose the Adaptive Energy-E!cient Localization Algorithm (Adaptive EELA) to enable energy-e!cient node localization while adapting to the dynamic environment changes. Adaptive EELA takes a fuzzy game-theoretic approach, whereby Stackelberg game is used to model the interactions among sensor and anchor nodes in UWSNs and employs the adaptive neuro-fuzzy method to set the appropriate utility functions. We prove that a socially optimal Stackelberg–Nash Equilibrium is achieved in Adaptive EELA. Through extensive numerical simulations under various environmental scenarios, the evaluation results show that our proposed algorithm accomplishes a signi"cant energy reduction, e.g., 66% lower compared to baselines, while achieving a desired performance level in terms of localization coverage, error, and delay

The growing vehicular communications pose a potential cyber security risk considering online vehicle hijacking. Therefore, there is a critical need to prioritize the cyber security issues in the CAV research theme. In this context, this paper presents a cyber security analysis of connected vehicle traffic environments (CyACV). Specifically, potential cyber security attacks in CAV are critically investigated and validated via experimental data sets. Trust in V2X communication for connected vehicles is explored in detail focusing on trust computation and trust management approaches and related challenges. A wide range of trust-based cyber security solutions for CAV have been critically investigated considering their strengths and weaknesses. Open research directions have been highlighted as potential new research themes in CAV cyber security area

    Agent-Based Control System as a Tool towards Industry 4.0: Directed Communication Graph Approach

    Agent-based control systems composed of simple locally interacting controller agents with demonstrated complex group behaviour. There have been relatively few implementations of agent-based control systems, mainly because of the difficulty of determining whether simple controller agent strategies will lead to desirable collective behaviour in a large system. The aim of this chapter is to design an agent-based control system for sets of ‘clustered’ controller agents through proposed directed communication graph approach as potent tool for the Industry 4.0. To reach global coordination with focus on real world applications, we use cluster algorithm technique in a set of rules for assigning decision tasks to agents. The outcomes include behavioural pattern, trend of agents and multi-agents usage in rail manufacturing enterprise resource planning and supply chain management. The results of this study showed that the combination of multi-agent system has ability to interact effectively and make informed decision on the type of maintenance actions, resource planning, train arrival times, etc
