Preparation and characterization of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles By Sol-Gel method
The magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and annealed under vacuum at different temperature. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles prepared via sol-gel assisted method and annealed at 200-400ºC were characterized by Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction spectra (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The XRD result indicate the presence of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, and the Scherer`s Formula calculated the mean particles size in range of 2-25 nm. The FESEM result shows that the morphologies of the particles annealed at 400ºC are more spherical and partially agglomerated, while the EDS result indicates the presence of Fe3O4 by showing Fe-O group of elements. AFM analyzed the 3D and roughness of the sample; the Fe3O4 nanoparticles have a minimum diameter of 79.04 nm, which is in agreement with FESEM result. In many cases, the synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles using FeCl3 and FeCl2 has not been achieved, according to some literatures, but this research was able to obtained Fe3O4 nanoparticles base on the characterization results
A Multiobjective Evolutionary Conceptual Clustering Methodology for Gene Annotation Within Structural Databases: A Case of Study on the Gene Ontology Database
Current tools and techniques devoted to examine the
content of large databases are often hampered by their inability
to support searches based on criteria that are meaningful to
their users. These shortcomings are particularly evident in data
banks storing representations of structural data such as biological
networks. Conceptual clustering techniques have demonstrated
to be appropriate for uncovering relationships between features
that characterize objects in structural data. However, typical con ceptual clustering approaches normally recover the most obvious
relations, but fail to discover the lessfrequent but more informative
underlying data associations. The combination of evolutionary
algorithms with multiobjective and multimodal optimization
techniques constitutes a suitable tool for solving this problem.
We propose a novel conceptual clustering methodology termed
evolutionary multiobjective conceptual clustering (EMO-CC), re lying on the NSGA-II multiobjective (MO) genetic algorithm. We
apply this methodology to identify conceptual models in struc tural databases generated from gene ontologies. These models
can explain and predict phenotypes in the immunoinflammatory
response problem, similar to those provided by gene expression or
other genetic markers. The analysis of these results reveals that
our approach uncovers cohesive clusters, even those comprising a
small number of observations explained by several features, which
allows describing objects and their interactions from different
perspectives and at different levels of detail.Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologÃa TIC-2003-00877Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologÃa BIO2004-0270EMinisterio de Ciencia y TecnologÃa TIN2006-1287
LearnFCA: A Fuzzy FCA and Probability Based Approach for Learning and Classification
Formal concept analysis(FCA) is a mathematical theory based on lattice and order theory used for data analysis and knowledge representation. Over the past several years, many of its extensions have been proposed and applied in several domains including data mining, machine learning, knowledge management, semantic web, software development, chemistry ,biology, medicine, data analytics, biology and ontology engineering.
This thesis reviews the state-of-the-art of theory of Formal Concept Analysis(FCA) and its various extensions that have been developed and well-studied in the past several years. We discuss their historical roots, reproduce the original definitions and derivations with illustrative examples. Further, we provide a literature review of it’s applications and various approaches adopted by researchers in the areas of dataanalysis, knowledge management with emphasis to data-learning and classification problems.
We propose LearnFCA, a novel approach based on FuzzyFCA and probability theory for learning and classification problems. LearnFCA uses an enhanced version of FuzzyLattice which has been developed to store class labels and probability vectors and has the capability to be used for classifying instances with encoded and unlabelled features. We evaluate LearnFCA on encodings from three datasets - mnist, omniglot and cancer images with interesting results and varying degrees of success.

Functional Analysis beyond Enrichment: Non-Redundant Reciprocal Linkage of Genes and Biological Terms
Functional analysis of large sets of genes and proteins is becoming more and more necessary with the increase of experimental biomolecular data at omic-scale. Enrichment analysis is by far the most popular available methodology to derive functional implications of sets of cooperating genes. The problem with these techniques relies in the redundancy of resulting information, that in most cases generate lots of trivial results with high risk to mask the reality of key biological events. We present and describe a computational method, called GeneTerm Linker, that filters and links enriched output data identifying sets of associated genes and terms, producing metagroups of coherent biological significance. The method uses fuzzy reciprocal linkage between genes and terms to unravel their functional convergence and associations. The algorithm is tested with a small set of well known interacting proteins from yeast and with a large collection of reference sets from three heterogeneous resources: multiprotein complexes (CORUM), cellular pathways (SGD) and human diseases (OMIM). Statistical Precision, Recall and balanced F-score are calculated showing robust results, even when different levels of random noise are included in the test sets. Although we could not find an equivalent method, we present a comparative analysis with a widely used method that combines enrichment and functional annotation clustering. A web application to use the method here proposed is provided at http://gtlinker.cnb.csic.es
