    XML descriptor based approach for real time data messaging

    This paper presents an overview of the Real Time Markup Language (RTML). RTML is an XML profile which provides the syntactic representation for describing the semantics of real time data for exchange over distributed networked real time systems. For the basis of interoperability, this profile is described in the XML Schema language. This paper describes the background of this work and shows how the vocabularies are developed, and how it derives the extensibility of XML Schema in aiding the definition of data in real time systems in order to achieve the goal of interoperability

Nowadays, handset manufacturers, mobile network operators and suppliers of mobile operating systems are opening storefronts on-line in attempts to capitalize on growing consumer demand. This study looks at the development of a mobile application that enables the student to apply for official document issued from the official document office of Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Art and Sciences UUM. Within the study, the system requirement of users was developed as well as the prototype development of the mobile application. Furthermore, a usability testing was conducted to inquire about the functionalities of the system. Results of the usability test and recommendations for future research on the same topic were provided

    In recent years, the development of worldwide travel has been outstanding. At the same time, due to the fast development of the travel business, it is important to offer tourists an enhanced travel platform. In China, most of museums still use narrators to do presentation about exhibition. In order to support museums to provide service in various ways, online product is essential. During the research process for completing this Thesis work, a mobile travel guide application was developed according to the existing condition of museums, which is based on an existing application. The objective of this project was to develop a mobile travel guide application with added functions to an existing application. The main goal of the application is to provide a wide variety of functions for museums to benefit visitors to museums. Moreover, this application aims to reach the right target group, and do real-time data analysis. The research draws from the actual demand analysis, developing a mobile application on the Android operating system. The application is an interaction application, and is added with some functions that are different from the existing one. The constructive research method was used to specify and analyze possible existing problem, in order to achieve a satisfactory result. Database concept was studied to construct database for the application. Usability studies were used to create graphical interfaces. There were several tools used in the development. Android studio was utilized to create the Android development environment. Hierarchy viewer is a tool to examine and design the User Interface. The test tool Android Virtual Device Nexus 5 in Android studio was mainly used for program automatic testing. The outcome of this research is a practical and easy application that everyone is able to use. It includes basic function which is textual and audio explanation, and added functions which are online ticketing sale and online shop service

    Analysis and Implementation of E-ticketing with Live Chat

    In this paper, idea of developing a system - online event ticketing- is presented along with practical solutions to some of the biggest issue - security. This is a web based application with main aim to simplify the user’s dependability on ticket sellers or outlets or kiosks to buy the event tickets and reduce the fraud of online transactions through modern and secured payment gateways allowing the user to use credit/debit card to complete their payments. User can access the system through website at any time through mobile/laptop or any smart device instead of going to the campus to buy the event tickets. This application would also allow the user to buy tickets individually or buy tickets for group by registering the group through a secured payment gateway – ‘PayPal’. Many events hosted in the college will have different pricing for students, staff, faculty, outsiders. For suppose, a student planning to buy tickets for a cultural event with different pricing levels for him and his parents can create a group with three of them and pay for one student and two outsiders by selecting the payment levels requested during the group registration. These features of the application are incorporated in the application to address the problems of group tickets with different pricing levels and secured payments which is considered as the major challenge for online transactions systems.     Small Business Ticketing System

    Many small businesses in the cable and Internet industry provide services around cable, Internet and telephone for local residential areas. This is a win-win for both customers and service providers. Customers enjoy localized services and customer support that enables a quick turn around time on problems or outages. In order to efficiently service these customers, a ticketing system would be needed that enables customer identification, issue identification and tracking, provide updates on the status of an issue by technicians. This project is aimed at creating such a solution for a small sized service provider business. The end result of this project would be an online system that can be used by a mini call center. The design takes into consideration the technician, administrator and call center agent view of the ticket resolution system. Each view is designed for a specific user, based on functionality described in the workflow below. This project uses Java and database technologies to implement the design

    Collaborative recommendations with content-based filters for cultural activities via a scalable event distribution platform

    Nowadays, most people have limited leisure time and the offer of (cultural) activities to spend this time is enormous. Consequently, picking the most appropriate events becomes increasingly difficult for end-users. This complexity of choice reinforces the necessity of filtering systems that assist users in finding and selecting relevant events. Whereas traditional filtering tools enable e.g. the use of keyword-based or filtered searches, innovative recommender systems draw on user ratings, preferences, and metadata describing the events. Existing collaborative recommendation techniques, developed for suggesting web-shop products or audio-visual content, have difficulties with sparse rating data and can not cope at all with event-specific restrictions like availability, time, and location. Moreover, aggregating, enriching, and distributing these events are additional requisites for an optimal communication channel. In this paper, we propose a highly-scalable event recommendation platform which considers event-specific characteristics. Personal suggestions are generated by an advanced collaborative filtering algorithm, which is more robust on sparse data by extending user profiles with presumable future consumptions. The events, which are described using an RDF/OWL representation of the EventsML-G2 standard, are categorized and enriched via smart indexing and open linked data sets. This metadata model enables additional content-based filters, which consider event-specific characteristics, on the recommendation list. The integration of these different functionalities is realized by a scalable and extendable bus architecture. Finally, focus group conversations were organized with external experts, cultural mediators, and potential end-users to evaluate the event distribution platform and investigate the possible added value of recommendations for cultural participation

    Creating business value from big data and business analytics : organizational, managerial and human resource implications

    This paper reports on a research project, funded by the EPSRC’s NEMODE (New Economic Models in the Digital Economy, Network+) programme, explores how organizations create value from their increasingly Big Data and the challenges they face in doing so. Three case studies are reported of large organizations with a formal business analytics group and data volumes that can be considered to be ‘big’. The case organizations are MobCo, a mobile telecoms operator, MediaCo, a television broadcaster, and CityTrans, a provider of transport services to a major city. Analysis of the cases is structured around a framework in which data and value creation are mediated by the organization’s business analytics capability. This capability is then studied through a sociotechnical lens of organization/management, process, people, and technology. From the cases twenty key findings are identified. In the area of data and value creation these are: 1. Ensure data quality, 2. Build trust and permissions platforms, 3. Provide adequate anonymization, 4. Share value with data originators, 5. Create value through data partnerships, 6. Create public as well as private value, 7. Monitor and plan for changes in legislation and regulation. In organization and management: 8. Build a corporate analytics strategy, 9. Plan for organizational and cultural change, 10. Build deep domain knowledge, 11. Structure the analytics team carefully, 12. Partner with academic institutions, 13. Create an ethics approval process, 14. Make analytics projects agile, 15. Explore and exploit in analytics projects. In technology: 16. Use visualization as story-telling, 17. Be agnostic about technology while the landscape is uncertain (i.e., maintain a focus on value). In people and tools: 18. Data scientist personal attributes (curious, problem focused), 19. Data scientist as ‘bricoleur’, 20. Data scientist acquisition and retention through challenging work. With regards to what organizations should do if they want to create value from their data the paper further proposes: a model of the analytics eco-system that places the business analytics function in a broad organizational context; and a process model for analytics implementation together with a six-stage maturity model

    PubMed ID: 26057043Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging short-range wireless communication technology that offers great and varied promise in services such as payment, ticketing, gaming, crowd sourcing, voting, navigation, and many others. NFC technology enables the integration of services from a wide range of applications into one single smartphone. NFC technology has emerged recently, and consequently not much academic data are available yet, although the number of academic research studies carried out in the past two years has already surpassed the total number of the prior works combined. This paper presents the concept of NFC technology in a holistic approach from different perspectives, including hardware improvement and optimization, communication essentials and standards, applications, secure elements, privacy and security, usability analysis, and ecosystem and business issues. Further research opportunities in terms of the academic and business points of view are also explored and discussed at the end of each section.     The primary goal of this thesis is to propose a reference model and an accompanying software system architecture, which together can serve as a guiding framework for the analysis, design, and implementation of distributed market spaces. The benefit of such a framework is considered two-fold: On the one hand, it provides insights essential for understanding various aspects and elements of self-organized and strictly decentralized online structures to facilitate the emergence of the post-platform economy. On the other hand, it serves as a blueprint for designing and implementing a distributed marketplace instance for a specific application context. It thus allows consumers and providers to set up and expand market spaces themselves, in which they can engage directly and reliably with complex product scenarios
