    Maximising the impact of careers services on career management skills: a review of the literature

    The review identified an international body of work on the development and implementation of competency frameworks in reaction to CMS, including the ‘Blueprint’ frameworks, which are a series of inter-related national approaches to career management skills (originating in the USA and taken up subsequently, and with different emphases, by Canada, Australia, England and Scotland). There is, as yet, little empirical evidence to support the overall efficacy of CMS frameworks, but they have the advantage of setting out what needs to be learned (usually as a clear and identifiable list of skills, attributes and attitudes) and, often, how this learning is intended to happen. The international literature emphasised the iterative nature and mixture of formal and informal learning and life experiences that people needed to develop CMS. It suggested that, though there was no single intervention or group of interventions that appeared most effective in increasing CMS, there were five underpinning components of career guidance interventions that substantially increased effectiveness, particularly when combined. These included the use of narrative/writing approaches; the importance of providing a ‘safe’ environment; the quality of the adviser-client relationship; the need for flexibility in approach; the provision of specialist information and support; and clarity on the purpose and aims of action planning. The review also identified a possible emergent hierarchy around the efficacy of different modes of delivery of career guidance interventions on CMS development. Interventions involving practitioner contact and structured groups appeared more effective than self-directed interventions or unstructured groups. Computer-based interventions were found to work better when practitioner input was provided during the intervention or when they were followed up by a structured workshop session to discuss and review the results.Skills Funding Agenc

    Conceptual modeling continues to evolve as researchers and practitioners reflect on the challenges of modeling and implementing data-intensive problems that appear in business and in science. These challenges of data modeling and representation are well-recognized in contemporary applications of big data, ontologies, and semantics, along with traditional efforts associated with methodologies, tools, and theory development. This introduction contains a review of some current research in conceptual modeling and identifies emerging themes. It also introduces the articles that comprise this special issue of papers from the 32nd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2013).This article was supported, in part, by the J.     ABSTRACT Kampung houses are houses in kampung area of the city. Kampung House oftenly transformed into others use as urban dynamics. One of the transfomation is related to the commercial activities addition by the house owner. It make house with full private space become into mixused house with more public spaces or completely changed into full public commercial building. This study investigate the spatial transformation pattern of the kampung houses due to their commercial activities addition. Site observations, interviews and questionnaires were performed to study the spatial transformation. This study found that in kampung houses, the spatial transformation pattern was depend on type of commercial activities and owner perceptions, and there are several steps of the spatial transformation related the commercial activity addition.     Two-staged approach for semantically annotating and brokering TV-related services

    Nowadays, more and more distributed digital TV and TV-related resources are published on the Web, such as Electronic Personal TV Guide (EPG) data. To enable applications to access these resources easily, the TV resource data is commonly provided by Web service technologies. The huge variety of data related to the TV domain and the wide range of services that provide it, raises the need to have a broker to discover, select and orchestrate services to satisfy the runtime requirements of applications that invoke these services. The variety of data and heterogeneous nature of the service capabilities makes it a challenging domain for automated web-service discovery and composition. To overcome these issues, we propose a two-stage service annotation approach, which is resolved by integrating Linked Services and IRS-III semantic web services framework, to complete the lifecycle of service annotating, publishing, deploying, discovering, orchestration and dynamic invocation. This approach satisfies both developer's and application's requirements to use Semantic Web Services (SWS) technologies manually and automatically

    Comprehensive service semantics and light-weight Linked Services: towards an integrated approach

    Semantics are used to mark up a wide variety of data-centric Web resources but, are not used in significant numbers to annotate online services — that is despite considerable research dedicated to Semantic Web Services (SWS). This is partially due to the complexity of comprehensive SWS models aiming at automation of service-oriented tasks such as discovery, composition, and execution. This has led to the emergence of a new approach dubbed Linked Services which is based on simplified service models that are easier to populate and interpret and accessible even to non-experts. However, such Minimal Service Models so far do not cover all execution-related aspects of service automation and merely aim at enabling more comprehensive service search and clustering. Thus, in this paper, we describe our approach of combining the strengths of both distinct approaches to modeling Semantic Web Services – “lightweight” Linked Services and “heavyweight” SWS automation – into a coherent SWS framework. In addition, an implementation of our approach based on existing SWS tools together with a proof-of-concept prototype used within the EU project NoTube is presented
