    Framework for sustainable TVET-Teacher Education Program in Malaysia Public Universities

    Studies had stated that less attention was given to the education aspect, such as teaching and learning in planning for improving the TVET system. Due to the 21st Century context, the current paradigm of teaching for the TVET educators also has been reported to be fatal and need to be shifted. All these disadvantages reported hindering the country from achieving the 5th strategy in the Strategic Plan for Vocational Education Transformation to transform TVET system as a whole. Therefore, this study aims to develop a framework for sustainable TVET Teacher Education program in Malaysia. This study had adopted an Exploratory Sequential Mix-Method design, which involves a semi-structured interview (phase one) and survey method (phase two). Nine experts had involved in phase one chosen by using Purposive Sampling Technique. As in phase two, 118 TVET-TE program lecturers were selected as the survey sample chosen through random sampling method. After data analysis in phase one (thematic analysis) and phase two (Principal Component Analysis), eight domains and 22 elements have been identified for the framework for sustainable TVET-TE program in Malaysia. This framework was identified to embed the elements of 21st Century Education, thus filling the gap in this research. The research findings also indicate that the developed framework was unidimensional and valid for the development and research regarding TVET-TE program in Malaysia. Lastly, it is in the hope that this research can be a guide for the nations in producing a quality TVET teacher in the future

    Optimised search heuristic combining valid inequalities and tabu search

    This paper presents an Optimised Search Heuristic that combines a tabu search method with the verification of violated valid inequalities. The solution delivered by the tabu search is partially destroyed by a randomised greedy procedure, and then the valid inequalities are used to guide the reconstruction of a complete solution.     Resource-constrained project scheduling for timely project completion with stochastic activity durations.

    We investigate resource-constrained project scheduling with stochastic activity durations. Various objective functions related to timely project completion are examined, as well as the correlation between these objectives. We develop a GRASP-heuristic to produce high-quality solutions, using so-called descriptive sampling. The algorithm outperforms other existing algorithms for expected-makespan minimization. The distribution of the possible makespan realizations for a given scheduling policy is studied, and problem difficulty is explored as a function of problem parameters.GRASP; Project scheduling; Uncertainty;

    Project scheduling under undertainty – survey and research potentials.

    The vast majority of the research efforts in project scheduling assume complete information about the scheduling problem to be solved and a static deterministic environment within which the pre-computed baseline schedule will be executed. However, in the real world, project activities are subject to considerable uncertainty, that is gradually resolved during project execution. In this survey we review the fundamental approaches for scheduling under uncertainty: reactive scheduling, stochastic project scheduling, stochastic GERT network scheduling, fuzzy project scheduling, robust (proactive) scheduling and sensitivity analysis.     Stochastic surgery selection and sequencing under dynamic emergency break-ins

    Anticipating the impact of urgent emergency arrivals on operating room schedules remains methodologically and computationally challenging. This paper investigates a model for surgery scheduling, in which both surgery durations and emergency patient arrivals are stochastic. When an emergency patient arrives he enters the first available room. Given the sets of surgeries available to each operating room for that day, as well as the distributions of the main stochastic variables, we aim to find the per-room surgery sequences that minimise a joint objective, which includes over- and under-utilisation, the amount of cancelled patients, as well as the risk that emergencies suffer an excessively long waiting time. We show that a detailed analysis of emergency break-ins and their disruption of the schedule leads to a lower total cost compared to less sophisticated models. We also map the trade-off between the threshold for excessive waiting time, and the set of other objectives.     Scheduling periodic jobs using imprecise results

    One approach to avoid timing faults in hard, real-time systems is to make available intermediate, imprecise results produced by real-time processes. When a result of the desired quality cannot be produced in time, an imprecise result of acceptable quality produced before the deadline can be used. The problem of scheduling periodic jobs to meet deadlines on a system that provides the necessary programming language primitives and run-time support for processes to return imprecise results is discussed. Since the scheduler may choose to terminate a task before it is completed, causing it to produce an acceptable but imprecise result, the amount of processor time assigned to any task in a valid schedule can be less than the amount of time required to complete the task. A meaningful formulation of the scheduling problem must take into account the overall quality of the results. Depending on the different types of undesirable effects caused by errors, jobs are classified as type N or type C. For type N jobs, the effects of errors in results produced in different periods are not cumulative. A reasonable performance measure is the average error over all jobs. Three heuristic algorithms that lead to feasible schedules with small average errors are described. For type C jobs, the undesirable effects of errors produced in different periods are cumulative.
