NextGen Multi-Model Databases in Semantic Big Data Architectures
When semantic big data is managed in commercial settings, with time, the need may arise to integrate and interlink records from various data sources. In this vision paper, we discuss the potential of a new generation of multi-model database systems as data backends in such settings. Discussing a specific example scenario, we show how this family of database systems allows for agile and flexible schema management. We also identify open research challenges in generating sound triple-views from data stored in interlinked models, as a basis for SPARQL querying. We then conclude with a general overview of multi-model data management systems, to provide a wider scope of the problem domain
Software Engineering for Real-Time NoSQL Systems-centric Big Data Analytics
Recent advances in Big Data Analytics (BDA) have stimulated widespread interest to integrate BDA capabilities into all aspects of a business. Before these advances, companies have spent time optimizing the software development process and best practices associated with application development. These processes include project management structures and how to deliver new features of an application to its customers efficiently. While these processes are significant for application development, they cannot be utilized effectively for the software development of Big Data Analytics. Instead, some practices and technologies enable automation and monitoring across the full lifecycle of productivity from design to deployment and operations of Analytics. This paper builds on those practices and technologies and introduces a highly scalable framework for Big Data Analytics development operations. This framework builds on top of the best-known processes associated with DevOps. These best practices are then shown using a NoSQL cloud-based platform that consumes and processes structured and unstructured real-time data. As a result, the framework produces scalable, timely, and accurate analytics in real-time, which can be easily adjusted or enhanced to meet the needs of a business and its customers
Digital omvandling av en skidort: en fallstudie
Digital technology and new ways of benefitting from information have the potential to radically alter business models and change interaction between a company and its customers. Some leading ski resorts are becoming aware of the potential of customer data and the benefits of having a digital service offering. Weisse Arena Gruppe (WAG) is the company behind the LAAX ski resort in Switzerland. WAG formed an internal digitalisation team to professionalise data handling, increase their understanding of the digital realm and build future digital capabilities.
This thesis gives reasons for why a company running a ski resort decided to assemble an internal team to build digital services, an area out of their core expertise, instead of relying on external contractors. The factors that were instrumental for the digitalisation teamâs results are defined. For this purpose, key persons behind the digitalisation initiative were interviewed.
Several factors were fundamental for the success of the digitalisation initiative. The digital services team worked in short development cycles, enabling quick creation of minimum viable products resulting in short feedback loops. The team had the appropriate freedom to form suitable processes and work methods, and support from the CEO throughout the process. Certain web- and mobile development technologies were essential for building impactful services with limited resources in a short time.
Towards performance evaluation of cloud service providers for cloud data security
© 2016, Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Today's data is sensitive that requires privacy and security both from the cloud service providers (CSP) as well as from users in its all the form of data states: data at rest, while transferring data, enquiring data, and processing the data. Cloud computing has been applied in the health sector, national security services, banking and other business and companies that store confidential data into the cloud as we have seen in recent years. Therefore, information and data security is a crucial issue that needs to be addressed thoroughly in the cloud computing business. This research deals with the performance analysis of recent cloud data security models. This paper proposes cloud data security models based on Business Process Modeling Notations (BPMN) and simulation results can reveal performances issues related to data security as part of any organizations initiative on Business process management (BPM)

Mobile application software development
The smartphone application industry has been on a steady rise all over the world, creating new jobs every year, in one of these companies I realised a 5-month internship in Sweden, developing a new feature for their app using React Native and Firebase. In this internship not only did I improved my programming skill but also gained invaluable insight on the industry, agile environments, how to better work as a team and the responsibility of developing a new feature for an established app on the market. In this dissertation I shall go over the history of the app, some stats of the industry, the agile methodology, the tools, frameworks and Services used to develop the feature I was trusted with, the day-to-day life of an agile developer in Equilab and how we overcame some issues.
Implementation and evaluation of a container-based software architecture
Recent advances in fields such as Cloud Computing, Web Systems,
Internet of Things and Distributed NoSQL DBMS are enabling the development of innovative enterprise information systems that significantly increase the productivity of end users and developers. The aim of this thesis is to explore the new opportunities that these new technologies are bringing to the enterprise world. The new opportunities are explored by investigating the scenario of a medium-sized worldwide-trading company, Fiorital S.p.A.
The thesis presents the design of a software architecture for the future
information system of the company. The architecture is based on the usage of the Container technology and of the Microservice architectural style.
Containers have empowered the usage of Microservices architectures by
being lightweight, providing fast start-up times, and having low overhead.
Candidate technologies for the implementation of the proposed software
architecture are singled out, and the selection rationale is presented.
This thesis provides an evaluation of both the candidate architecture and
the technologies through the implementation of a prototype and the
application of synthetic workloads that mimic stressful use scenarios. The
results show that, in spite of the relative immaturity of some of the
candidate technologies, the information system's candidate architecture is
appropriate and that a company like Fiorital would considerably benefit
from it

Sustainable IoT Sensing Applications Development through GraphQL-Based Abstraction Layer
Internet of Things (IoT) networks are mostly comprised of power-constrained devices, therefore the most important consideration in designing IoT applications, based on sensor networks is energy efficiency. Minor improvement in energy conservation methods can lead to a significant increase in the lifetime of IoT devices and overall network. To achieve efficient utilisation of energy, different solutions are proposed such as duty cycling optimization, design changes at the MAC layer, etc. In this paper, we propose a new approach to overcome this challenge in cloud-based IoT sensing applications, based on integration of an abstraction layer with constrained application mechanism. To achieve energy conservation and efficient data management in IoT sensing applications, we incorporate modules of efficient web framework with cloud services, in order to minimize the number of round trips for data delivery and graph-based data representation. Our study is the first attempt in the literature, to the best of our knowledge, which introduces the potential of this integration for achieving the aforementioned objectives in the target applications. We implemented the proposed interfacing of abstraction layer in constrained applications, to develop a testbed using Z1 IoT motes, Contiki OS and GraphQL web framework with Google cloud services. Experimental comparisons against baseline REST architecture approach show that our proposed approach achieved significant reductions in data delivery delay and energy consumption (minimum 51.53% and 52.88%, respectively) in IoT applications involving sensor network.</jats:p
