Dramatization as a teaching aspect within the English language is a very broad theme since there are several activities that allow teachers to help students acquire speaking skills in an impressive way. The general objective of this study was " Propose Dramatization as a strategy to improve speaking skills in 8th level students at Sanchez y Cifuentes high school, academic period 2021-2022". The total sample of the research was 93 students and interviews were conducted with 2 teachers of the selected educational institution, which in this case were from the Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional "Sanchez y Cifuentes", likewise, the study had a mixed approach, the methodological instruments used to obtain the results were the survey and the interview. For the development of the proposal, the deficiencies found in the students through the survey and the information gathered from the interview were considered. The guide consists of 4 units with there are 2 activities for each. Regarding the results, it was found that most of the students present deficiencies in the different English language skills, and teachers show singularities that are not very positive when carrying out activities related to dramatization.Licenciatur

Video and storytelling in a digital world: interactions and narratives in videoclips

    Get PDF
This paper presents a study about narratives in music videos. It discusses the arrangements of audio-visual languages from settings established by characteristics of the media, emphasizing the role of platforms for the diffusion of information and entertainment such as YouTube. It highlights a dialogue within cinema’s own language and shows that, in contemporary scenarios, music videos actually tell stories. It is argued that contemporary music videos, in great majority, increase the duration of music, with pauses, performances of characters, insertion of dialogues and other structuring elements that are not typical of the classic and conventional paradigms of a language. For our purposes, the objects of this study are the music videos of Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan. The theoretical foundation is established through authors involved in debates around a culture of convergence, transmedia storytelling and interactions among the audio-visual languages

Padawan’s Journey: Remixing Star Wars Radio for Adolescent Literacy Education

    Get PDF
The Star Wars phenomenon motivates adolescents who may be disengaged in the classroom. The wealth of visual content may overshadow the power of the music, sound effects, and dialogue. In literacy education, skills are often practiced by reading and discussing traditional texts. In this digital literacy project, struggling readers remixed the Star Wars canon through audio storytelling. Students served as actors, Foley artists, and directors in the recording of brief episodes based on the original trilogy. The project heightens students’ oral fluency and text comprehension by engaging in close reading and structured dialogue. The recordings demonstrate how students can be effective storytellers and produce a sophisticated exhibit of learning. Future plans to extend full-length stories and enhance production are on-going

Exploring narrativity in data visualization in journalism

    Get PDF
Many news stories are based on data visualization, and storytelling with data has become a buzzword in journalism. But what exactly does storytelling with data mean? When does a data visualization tell a story? And what are narrative constituents in data visualization? This chapter first defines the key terms in this context: story, narrative, narrativity, showing and telling. Then, it sheds light on the various forms of narrativity in data visualization and, based on a corpus analysis of 73 data visualizations, describes the basic visual elements that constitute narrativity: the instance of a narrator, sequentiality, temporal dimension, and tellability. The paper concludes that understanding how data are transformed into visual stories is key to understanding how facts are shaped and communicated in society

The purpose of this literature review was to examine the effects of storytelling on student engagement and motivation, literacy skills, and content knowledge across curriculum areas. In this review, over thirty purposefully selected peer-reviewed journal articles about the effects of digital storytelling on students\u27 learning in the classroom were critically analyzed and evaluated. The research evidence showed that digital storytelling increases student motivation and engagement in student-centered projects. It had a positive effect on the improvement of literacy skills, other content knowledge and the 21st century skills both for the normal students and the students who normally struggle with writing a story. Students were more engaged when they were in control of reflecting, visualizing, and creating more meaningful digital stories to share with a large audience

Right from the existence of Homo sapiens (Humans), storytelling has existed. Primarily in an oral tradition, humans used storytelling as a method of preserving stories, history and cultural traditions of their ancestors. Verbal communication is one of the fundamental form of communication, whether or not humans once communicated with primitive grunts. As humans are social creatures, they use different mediums to communicate which also proves as an evidence of socialism of humans. Consequently, storytelling evolved from stone scripts to the digital and now it is further transforming to the immersive medium format. Different cultures documented their stories, history and also digitised it to preserve it. Aesthetics and content of the storytelling is creatively enhanced with the help of various processes. Image processing; the set of techniques used to modify a digital image in order to improve it (in terms of quality), or to reduce its size or to get information out of it. Digital image processing is a new sector of knowledge that has quickly developed due to the emergence of new information technologies. It simply relies on the information linked with mathematics, signal processing, electronic systems and the development in microprocessor computation capacities. In its early stages digital image processing and its scope of application is quite spread, due to which it has quickly become apparent that a methodology should be created and the domains of application separated out. This research gives spotlight on the analysis of multidimensional role of image and video processing in altering the complete way of contemporary storytelling. It deals with various aspects of audio-visual production process related to video and images. The main purpose of the study was to discuss the techniques and the thought process with respect to the technological aspect in digital storytelling

    Animation: A Learning Tool

Childhood has changed rapidly over the past few years and the methods that we use as teachers and educators of children and young people should reflect these changes. Children learn best and most when they enjoy what they are doing. Using animation as a tool to encourage and develop children’s learning is not only fun but effective! This thesis presents the Animation as an effective learning tool. The very common definition of Animation is representation of images to create an illusion of movement. If I draw a series of images, showing a man walking with each picture having one specific position of his leg movement. If we show these entire set of images one after other real quick, the man magically seems to move! This is the basic ideology behind animation. The project start with research work dealing with the understanding of animation, colours used in a particular scenes where one is trying to focus, psychological behaviour of colours and its impact on viewer. In movie’s colour graphics use of colours is very clear, intensity of colours are used in such a way that it doesn’t distract the person watching it or disturb the person in some mean and which looks amusing to the viewer. Colour graphics in any movie, whether with living character or animated describe the scenes with talk between the character, their motion and the scenery means background. Many times it’s the scenery which attract the people and also character looks beautiful in that scenery. But it’s very important to their intensity of which is used as a more informal knowledge source and understanding the problem of students awareness and their attitude towards the computer graphics and how they use it to increase their knowledge about the animation, graphics and specially colour graphics and it challenges the psychology behind understanding the things if taught with help of graphics or motion of pictures. The research trying to state that basic things and general information can be shown or told directly but through animation or graphics specially colour graphics it leaves a mark on people’s mind and it is interesting and it’s easy to understand if taught with a better understanding of colours and way animation should be represented, so nobody gets bored and student enjoy watching it
