    Limited experimental data exists for the specific core loss and dynamic B-H loops for soft magnetic materials for the combined conditions of high frequency and high temperature. This experimental study investigates the specific core loss and dynamic B-H loop characteristics of Supermalloy and Metglas 2605SC over the frequency range of 1 to 50 kHz and temperature range of 23 to 300 C under sinusoidal voltage excitation. The experimental setup used to conduct the investigation is described. The effects of the maximum magnetic flux density, frequency, and temperature on the specific core loss and on the size and shape of the B-H loops are examined

    A study of digital gyro compensation loops

    The feasibility is discussed of replacing existing state-of-the-art analog gyro compensation loops with digital computations. This was accomplished by designing appropriate compensation loops for the dry turned TDF gyro, selecting appropriate data conversion and processing techniques and algorithms, and breadboarding the design for laboratory evaluation. A breadboard design was established in which one axis of a Teledyne turned-gimbal TDF gyro was caged digitally while the other was caged using conventional analog electronics. The digital loop was designed analytically to closely resemble the analog loop in performance. The breadboard was subjected to various static and dynamic tests in order to establish the relative stability characteristics and frequency responses of the digital and analog loops.     Advanced Control of the dynamic voltage restorer for mitigating voltage sags in power systems

    The paper presents a vector control with two cascaded loops to improve the properties of Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) to minimize Voltage Sags on the grid. Thereby, a vector controlled structure was built on the rotating dq-coordinate system with the combination of voltage control and the current control. The proposed DVR control method is modelled using MATLAB-Simulink. It is tested using balanced/ unbalanced voltage sags as well as fluctuant and distorted voltages. As a result, by using this controlling method, the dynamic characteristics of the system have been improved significantly. The system performed with higher accuracy, faster response and lower distortion in the voltage sags compensation. The paper presents real time experimental results to verify the performance of the proposed method in real environments

    Compensated control loops for a 30-cm ion thruster

    The vaporizer dynamic control characteristics of a 30-cm diameter mercury ion thruster were determined by operating the thruster in an open loop steady state mode and then introducing a small sinusoidal signal on the main, cathode, or neutralizer vaporizer current and observing the response of the beam current, discharge voltage, and neutralizer keeper voltage, respectively. This was done over a range of frequencies and operating conditions. From these data, Bode plots for gain and phase were made and mathematical models were obtained. The Bode plots and mathematical models were analyzed for stability and appropriate compensation networks determined. The compensated control loops were incorporated into a power processor and operated with a thruster. The time responses of the compensated loops to changes in set points and recovery from arc conditions are presented

    Modified cam-clay model with dynamic shear modulus under cyclic loads

    In order to study the dynamic characteristics of clay under metro loads, a dynamic triaxial test for clay was conducted. The function formula between the dynamic shear modulus and the number of oscillation periods was presented to calculate and analyze the dynamic characteristics of clay, then the function formula applicability was verified for different regional clays. In addition, the relationship between dynamic shear modulus and the parameters of cam-clay was established. The function formula for calculating dynamic shear modulus can be generalized to apply to the cam-clay model. The results show that the dynamic shear modulus function formula can be well applied. This modified cam-clay model can not only describe hysteresis loops, but also consider the effects of loading frequency on the dynamic characteristics of clay. Therefore, it is convenient to study the dynamic characteristics of clay under metro loads for theoretical analysis and verification

    A Feature Learning Siamese Model for Intelligent Control of the Dynamic Range Compressor

    In this paper, a siamese DNN model is proposed to learn the characteristics of the audio dynamic range compressor (DRC). This facilitates an intelligent control system that uses audio examples to configure the DRC, a widely used non-linear audio signal conditioning technique in the areas of music production, speech communication and broadcasting. Several alternative siamese DNN architectures are proposed to learn feature embeddings that can characterise subtle effects due to dynamic range compression. These models are compared with each other as well as handcrafted features proposed in previous work. The evaluation of the relations between the hyperparameters of DNN and DRC parameters are also provided. The best model is able to produce a universal feature embedding that is capable of predicting multiple DRC parameters simultaneously, which is a significant improvement from our previous research. The feature embedding shows better performance than handcrafted audio features when predicting DRC parameters for both mono-instrument audio loops and polyphonic music pieces.Comment: 8 pages, accepted in IJCNN 201

    Dynamic stall modeling and correlation with experimental data on airfoils and rotors

    Two methods for modeling dynamic stall have been developed. The alpha, A, B method generates lift and pitching moments as functions of angle of attack and its first two time derivatives. The coefficients are derived from experimental data for oscillating airfoils. The Time Delay Method generates the coefficients from steady state airfoil characteristics and an associated time delay in stall beyond the steady state stall angle. Correlation with three types of test data shows that the alpha, A, B method is somewhat better for use in predicting helicopter rotor response in forward flight. Correlation with lift and moment hysteresis loops generated for oscillating airfoils was good for both models

    Hierarchical Dynamic Loop Self-Scheduling on Distributed-Memory Systems Using an MPI+MPI Approach

    Computationally-intensive loops are the primary source of parallelism in scientific applications. Such loops are often irregular and a balanced execution of their loop iterations is critical for achieving high performance. However, several factors may lead to an imbalanced load execution, such as problem characteristics, algorithmic, and systemic variations. Dynamic loop self-scheduling (DLS) techniques are devised to mitigate these factors, and consequently, improve application performance. On distributed-memory systems, DLS techniques can be implemented using a hierarchical master-worker execution model and are, therefore, called hierarchical DLS techniques. These techniques self-schedule loop iterations at two levels of hardware parallelism: across and within compute nodes. Hybrid programming approaches that combine the message passing interface (MPI) with open multi-processing (OpenMP) dominate the implementation of hierarchical DLS techniques. The MPI-3 standard includes the feature of sharing memory regions among MPI processes. This feature introduced the MPI+MPI approach that simplifies the implementation of parallel scientific applications. The present work designs and implements hierarchical DLS techniques by exploiting the MPI+MPI approach. Four well-known DLS techniques are considered in the evaluation proposed herein. The results indicate certain performance advantages of the proposed approach compared to the hybrid MPI+OpenMP approach
