Dynamic navigation indoor map using Wi-Fi fingerprinting mobile technology

    Get PDF
This paper presents the exploitation of Wi-Fi signals sensors using fingerprinting method to capture the location and provide the possible navigation paths. Such approach is practical because current smartphones nowadays are equipped with inertial sensors that can capture the Wi-Fi signals from the Wi-Fi’s access points inside the building. From the comparative study conducted, the AnyPlace development tool is used for the development of dynamic navigation indoor map. Its components, namely; Architect, Viewer, Navigator and Logger are used for different specific functions. As a case study, we implement the proposed approach to guide user for navigation in Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Malaysia as floor plan as well as using Google Maps as the base map for prove of concept. From the developer point of view, it is observed that the proposed approach is viable to create a dynamic navigation indoor map provided that the floor plans must be generated first. Such plan should be integrated with the SDK tool to work with the navigation APIs. It is hoped that the proposed work can be extended for more complex indoor map for better implementatio

The AIAA/NASA Conference on Intelligent Robotics in Field, Factory, Service, and Space (CIRFFSS '94) was originally proposed because of the strong belief that America's problems of global economic competitiveness and job creation and preservation can partly be solved by the use of intelligent robotics, which are also required for human space exploration missions. Individual sessions addressed nuclear industry, agile manufacturing, security/building monitoring, on-orbit applications, vision and sensing technologies, situated control and low-level control, robotic systems architecture, environmental restoration and waste management, robotic remanufacturing, and healthcare applications

    Fire Protection Information System

The project title is Fire Protection Information System consist of Emergency Response Plan and maintenance of Fire Protection equipment and it is a case study of MMC Oil & Gas Office which were located at level 20, 21 & 22 of Menara Asia Life, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur . The objective of the project is to develop and implement a GIS database for Fire Protection System of MMC Office while perform analysis on Fire Protection System maintenance information capabilities of Emergency Response Plan (ERP). These Project objectives are also to assess the effectiveness of GIS for fire protection equipment, maintenance management: Maintenance is a very important task for a well-developed country in order to avoid from any catastrophe. Maintenance of a building especially Fire Protection System for a large scale building such as MMC Office could be costly and therefore it could be neglected due to the high cost to maintain. Thus, a proper maintenance management of a building will minimize cost to perform the\ud maintenance within the given budget. Scope of the project is to evaluate the performance of Fire Protection maintenance and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and, minimize the maintenance cost of high- and medium-rise building while taking into account the Fire Protection System management. This will focus on several critical aspects in the building which need a frequent checking/maintaining, by designing a user-friendly databases and easily accessible by users. In order to complete the project, a research, raw maintenance database gathering, compilation of building plan (autoCAD format) need to be done. Then, the database will be converted in a newly developed database system by using GIS applications. Learning GIS -based software for instance Maplnfo 7.0 Professional is going to be crucial for this project. To design a user-friendly interface, Microsoft Visual Basic is going to be used by manipulating the GIS system database. At the end of the timeline, the end-product of this project is going to be a system database which will assist building managers and engineers in building managing Fire Protection System of a building more efficiently

Development of a knowledge-based system for the repair and maintenance of concrete structures

PhD ThesisInformation Technology (IT) can exploit strategic opportunities for new ways of facilitating information and data exchange and the exchange of expert and specialist opinions in any field of engineering. Knowledge-Based Systems are sophisticated computer programs which store expert knowledge on specific subject and are applied to a broad range of engineering problems. Integrated Database applications have facilitated the essential capability of storing data to overcome an increasing information malaise. Integrating these areas of Information Technology (IT) can be used to bring a group of experts in any field of engineering closer together by allowing them to communicate and exchange information and opinions. The central feature of this research study is the integration of these hitherto separate areas of Information Technology (IT). In this thesis an adaptable Graphic User Interface Centred application comprising a Knowledge-Based Expert System (DEMARECEXPERT), a Database Management System (REPCON) and Evaluation program (ECON) alongside visualisation technologies is developed to produce an innovative platform which will facilitate and encourage the development of knowledge in concrete repair. Diagnosis, Evaluation, MAintenance and REpair of Concrete structures (DEMAREQ is a flexible application which can be used in four modes of Education, Diagnostic, Evaluation and Evolution. In the educational mode an inexperienced user can develop a better understanding of the repair of concrete technology by navigating through a database of textual and pictorial data. In the diagnostic mode, pictures and descriptive information taken from the database and performance of the expert system (DEMAREC-EXPERT) are used in a way that makes problem solving and decision making easier. The DEMAREC-EXPERT system is coupled to the REPCON (as an independent database) in order to provide the user with recommendations related to the best course required for maintenance and in the selection of materials and methods for the repair of concrete. In the evaluation mode the conditions observed are described in unambiguous terms that can be used by the user to be able to take engineering and management actions for the repair and maintenance of the structure. In the evolution mode of the application, the nature of distress, repair and maintenance of concrete structures within the extent of the database management system has been assessedT. he new methodology of data/usere valuation could have wider implications in many knowledge rich areas of expertise. The benefit of using REPCON lies in the enhanced levels of confidence which can be attributed to the data and to contribution of that data. Effectively, REPCON is designed to model a true evolution of a field of expertise but allows that expertise to move on in faster and more structured manner. This research has wider implications than within the realm of concrete repair. The methodology described in this thesis is developed to provide tecýnology transfer of information from experts, specialists to other practitioners and vice versa and it provides a common forum for communication and exchange information between them. Indeed, one of the strengths of the system is the way in which it allows the promotion and relegation of knowledge according to the opinion of users of different levels of ability from expert to novice. It creates a flexible environment in which an inexperienced user can develop his knowledge in maintenance and concrete repair structures. It is explained how an expert and a specialist can contribute his experience and knowledge towards improving and evolving the problem solving capability of the application

31th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases

Information modelling is becoming more and more important topic for researchers, designers, and users of information systems. The amount and complexity of information itself, the number of abstractionlevels of information, and the size of databases and knowledge bases arecontinuously growing. Conceptual modelling is one of the sub-areas ofinformation modelling. The aim of this conference is to bring together experts from different areas of computer science and other disciplines, who have a common interest in understanding and solving problems on information modelling and knowledge bases, as well as applying the results of research to practice. We also aim to recognize and study new areas on modelling and knowledge bases to which more attention should be paid. Therefore philosophy and logic, cognitive science, knowledge management, linguistics and management science are relevant areas, too. In the conference, there will be three categories of presentations, i.e. full papers, short papers and position papers
