Transformation towards Human Workforce 4.0 through the Qualification Model LTA-FIT

Even though digitization is a topic of high interest and promises remarkable benefits for the German manufacturing industry, it is still in its development phase. Thus, necessities arising from it are not predictable, yet. A great obstacle that will occur is the appropriate qualification of employees at all levels, sectors and firm sizes. The integration of new technologies will have radical impact on the role and job profile of all staff members as they alter the requirements across the whole value chain and lead to new processes. Latest studies showed that an insufficient qualification of employees is one of the greatest challenges for a successful digitization. Thus, to regain a globally leading position in the manufacturing industry German companies, especially small and medium sized enterprises (SME), need to qualify their employees appropriately. The LTA-FIT model is an approach that aims to face these challenges

Disassembly and reassembly: an introduction to the special issue on digital technology and creative industries

    Get PDF
This paper analyses the dynamics of disassembly and reassembly unfolding in selected creative industries through the advent of digital technology. It argues that a full understanding of the much-observed organizational or sectoral lock-in effects on the one hand, and the possibilities for transformation and innovation on the other is only gained by analyzing jointly how institutional logics, business models and creative processes are affected by digital technology and how they interrelate in producing stability or change. These three dimensions provide a framework for reviewing the findings of the papers comprised in the Special Issue and for integrating their insights towards a research agenda. This introduction starts with a reflection on creative industries classification systems and related possibilities for generalization and discusses how digital technology acts as a driver for disassembly and reassembly. It concludes by highlighting three avenues for further research

Digitalization is invading every aspect of our lives and modern technologies are at the helm of much disruptive change in all spheres of life. Hailed as the 4th industrial revolution every company has a mind to understand the implications of the Industry 4.0 suit of technologies and their multiple innovative applications for its operations. In this paper, we explore how the industry 4.0 transformation might affect Small and Medium sized enterprises in Germany over a 15-year horizon. We focus on SMEs because they play a significant role in ensuring the prosperity of Germany as a global industrial and economic powerhouse. We develop alternative pictures of the possible futures using the foresight technique of Scenario planning in which the factors that shape the business environment SMEs and indeed all companies operate in are identified and used to build the most plausible alternative realities. The outcome is four distinct scenarios that reflect the possible growth trajectories regarding the impending transformation for SMEs

Skill Development on the Shop Floor - Heading to a Digital Divide?

    Get PDF
In recent years, there has been a huge debate on how modern sensor technology and the increasing connectivity of production systems have changed industrial production processes and working conditions. This article contributes to the discussion on the effects of digitalization on skill development under different working conditions with the following question: How has learning in the work-process changed with the introduction of data-based technologies? To examine the interaction between digital assistance systems and organizational parameters on informal learning, we analyzed the implementation of digital assistant systems in two different groups: low-skilled assembly workers and high-skilled shop floor managers. Our findings suggest that a lack of autonomy in workplaces has negative impacts on informal learning and thus skill development. When the design of assistance systems perpetuates preexisting inequalities in the working conditions, their use can contribute to a polarization of qualifications and a digital divide of the workforce

Artificial intelligence (AI) can be a very useful tool for the growth and development of society.
