The objective of this PhD-project has been to develop and enhance the operational behaviour of autonomous or automated conventional machines under out-door conditions. This has included developing high-level planning measures for the maximisation of machine productivity as an important element in the continued efforts of planning and controlling resource inputs in both arable and high value crops farming. The methods developed generate the optimized coverage path for any field regardless of its complexity on 2D or 3D terrains without any human intervention and in a manner that minimizes operational time, skipped and overlapped areas, and fuel consumption. By applying the developed approaches, a reduction of more than 20% in consumed fossil fuel together with a corresponding reduction in the emissions of CO2 and other greenhouses is achievable. In this work, a software package for the autonomous navigation of field robotics over 2D and 3D field terrains and the optimization of field operations and machinery systems have been developed. A web-based version of the developed software package is currently under progress

Survey on Wireless Sensor Networks for Reliable Life Services and Other Advanced Applications

    Get PDF
Wireless is an old technology; however with the advancement of science and technology it has enabled us to send signals to one or more devices without tangible wire connections and reduced complexity. The increasing human needs have lead to the integration of different technologies into a single unit and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is one such integration where sensors are integrated with wireless system to form a network. This network is used for a plethora of applications in sectors like defence, agriculture, medical, environment and industry

Farm-level data integration: future problems and consequences for public and private structures

    Get PDF
One of the outcomes of the EC-FP7 project “Future Farm” was showing the need of INTEGRATION, something that PROGIS has been doing for 15 years. Within the whole sector agriculture–forestry-environment-risk management there is an enormous need for integration that is not available yet, because of on side the existing admin-sector-structures plus on the other side diverse public and/or private interests with opposite directions and in many cases the not streamlined interest of ALL involved parties. On the other hand we have the nature that is fully integrated and should be managed by us! Nothing happens without being related to something else within the nature. We have to be more aware of this and have also to understand that ICT will be the driver of integration as data and based on it these information is necessary and urgently needed for public and for private structures. We can do it separately, doing things in parallel and multiple times with multiple costs and reduced results. The other option is to cooperate on an integrative model!Commons, farm management, valuation of land, ICT, Farm Management,

Lately, the widespread use and continuous improvement of machine tools has had a significant impact on productivity in the manufacturing industry since the Industrial Revolution. At the beginning of the new era of industrialization, the need to advance machine tools to a new level, which corresponds to the Industry 4.0 concept, must be recognized and addressed. Like the various stages of industrialization, machine tools have also gone through various stages of technological advances, namely Machine Tool 1.0, Machine Tool 2.0 and Machine Tool 3.0. Industry 4.0 advocates for a new generation of machines - Machine Tool 4.0. This paper describes some of the key and desired features of the implementation of intelligent machines such as numerically controlled lathes and milling machine tool centers integrated vertically and horizontally in order to achieve a modern, intelligent, autonomous and safer agriculture

Development of an intelligent master-slave system between agricultural vehicles

    Get PDF
This paper presents a method to develop an intelligent master-slave system between agricultural vehicles, which will enable a semi-autonomous agricultural vehicle (slave) to follow a leading tractor (master) with a given lateral and longitudinal offset. In our study not only the follow-up motions but also the site-specific control of the apparatus such as rear and front power lift was considered. In the first part of this paper the recent research works in the area autonomous farming were discussed and the restrictions of these research works were illustrated. In the second part an approach to construct a master-slave system between two agricultural vehicles was demonstrated. In the next part the mathematic modelling of this master-slave system and the simulation results about the control algorithm were demonstrated. Afterwards the result of a real field test was presented and the safety considerations about such an intelligent vehicle system were made

    Get PDF
