Traffic Adaptive Schedule-Based Mac Protocol For Wirelesssensor Networks
Wireless sensor networking is an emerging technology that has a wide range of potential
applications inc1uding monitoring, medical systems, real-time, robotic exploration and
etc. Energy is a critical resource in battery-powered sensor networks. Medium access
control has an important role in minimizing energy consumption while it is responsible
for successful data transferring in the network. Periodic data collection is the most
comprehensive way of data gathering mechanism in wireless sensor network in which
nodes report their samples in specific time interval s . It is possible to h ave some nodes
with different update interval s in the network and therefore, finding a solution to
accommodate nodes with different sampling intervals while maintaining the energy
efficiency is the primary concern of this thesis

Isu atau masalah rasuah menjadi topik utama sama ada di peringkat antarabangsa mahupun di peringkat dalam negara. Pertubuhan Bangsa- bangsa Bersatu menegaskan komitmen komuniti antarabangsa bertegas untuk mencegah dan mengawal rasuah melalui buku bertajuk United Nations Convention against Corruption. Hal yang sama berlaku di Malaysia. Melalui pernyataan visi oleh mantan Perdana Menteri Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamed memberikan indikasi bahawa kerajaan Malaysia komited untuk mencapai aspirasi agar Malaysia dikenali kerana integriti dan bukannya rasuah. Justeru, tujuan penulisan bab ini adalah untuk membincangkan rasuah dari beberapa sudut termasuk perbincangan dari sudut agama Islam, faktor-faktor berlakunya gejala rasuah, dan usaha-usaha yang dijalankan di Malaysia untuk membanteras gejala rasuah. Perkara ini penting bagi mengenalpasti penjawat awam menanamkan keyakinan dalam melaksanakan tanggungjawab dengan menghindari diri daripada rasuah agar mereka sentiasa peka mengutamakan kepentingan awam
Rate-Distortion Classification for Self-Tuning IoT Networks
Many future wireless sensor networks and the Internet of Things are expected
to follow a software defined paradigm, where protocol parameters and behaviors
will be dynamically tuned as a function of the signal statistics. New protocols
will be then injected as a software as certain events occur. For instance, new
data compressors could be (re)programmed on-the-fly as the monitored signal
type or its statistical properties change. We consider a lossy compression
scenario, where the application tolerates some distortion of the gathered
signal in return for improved energy efficiency. To reap the full benefits of
this paradigm, we discuss an automatic sensor profiling approach where the
signal class, and in particular the corresponding rate-distortion curve, is
automatically assessed using machine learning tools (namely, support vector
machines and neural networks). We show that this curve can be reliably
estimated on-the-fly through the computation of a small number (from ten to
twenty) of statistical features on time windows of a few hundreds samples
A critical analysis of research potential, challenges and future directives in industrial wireless sensor networks
In recent years, Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks (IWSNs) have emerged as an important research theme with applications spanning a wide range of industries including automation, monitoring, process control, feedback systems and automotive. Wide scope of IWSNs applications ranging from small production units, large oil and gas industries to nuclear fission control, enables a fast-paced research in this field. Though IWSNs offer advantages of low cost, flexibility, scalability, self-healing, easy deployment and reformation, yet they pose certain limitations on available potential and introduce challenges on multiple fronts due to their susceptibility to highly complex and uncertain industrial environments. In this paper a detailed discussion on design objectives, challenges and solutions, for IWSNs, are presented. A careful evaluation of industrial systems, deadlines and possible hazards in industrial atmosphere are discussed. The paper also presents a thorough review of the existing standards and industrial protocols and gives a critical evaluation of potential of these standards and protocols along with a detailed discussion on available hardware platforms, specific industrial energy harvesting techniques and their capabilities. The paper lists main service providers for IWSNs solutions and gives insight of future trends and research gaps in the field of IWSNs
On the selection of connectivity-based metrics for WSNs using a classification of application behaviour
This paper addresses a subset of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications in which data is produced by a set of resource-constrained source nodes and forwarded to one or more sink nodes. The performance of such applications is affected by the connectivity of the WSN, since nodes must remain connected in order to transfer data from sources to sinks. Designers use metrics to measure and improve the efficacy of WSN applications. We aim to facilitate the choice of connectivity-based metrics by introducing a classification of WSN applications based on their data collection behaviour and indicating the metrics best suited to the evaluation of particular application classes. We argue that no suitable metric currently exists for a significant class of applications with the following characteristics: 1) application data is periodically routed or disseminated from source nodes to one or more sink nodes, and 2) the application can continue to function with the loss of source nodes although its useful network lifetime diminishes as a result.
