D2,1 Online mapping of Chinese and European ICT industrial as sociations – Progress report

This document is the first deliverable of CHOICE project task 2.2 Bringing together European and Chinese Industrial Associations. This task will, at the end of the second year of the project, have delivered a final version of an online database of relevant Chinese and European ICT industrial associations. This document is a report on the progress towards an online database of relevant Chinese and European ICT industrial associations. It maps Chinese industrial associations to European industrial associations in ICT. It does this by providing details of the Chinese industrial associations and other relevant bodies that are a Chinese priority for collaboration with their EU counterparts related to EU-China collaborative ICT R&D&I. Other such Chinese bodies that are not a Chinese priority for such collaboration that map to European industrial associations in ICT are then summarised so that a complete mapping of Chinese industrial associations and related bodies to European industrial associations in ICT can be made

CHORUS Deliverable 2.1: State of the Art on Multimedia Search Engines

Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective. The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines. From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research

Catalogue of existing good practice examples of programmes and interventions : Deliverable 2.1

This document (D2.1) provides an overview of the extensive data that has been collected on sustainable energy consumption initiatives as part of Work Package 2 (WP2) in ENERGISE. The deliverable provides a general introduction to the scope and objectives of WP2 specifically, as well as a short introduction as to how sustainable energy consumption initiatives are defined in ENERGISE. In addition, a full list is provided of 1000+ sustainable energy consumption initiatives that have been identified throughout Europe

Bio-based products and applications potential

As the current model of production and consumption which largely relies on fossil-based resources impacts irreversibly on the environment and the availability of natural resources is approaching a peak soon, significant steps are being taken around the world to move from today’s fossil based economy to a more sustainable economy based on biomass. A key factor in the realisation of a successful bio-based economy is the production of a range of bio-based products and bioenergy to substitute their fossil-derived equivalents by processing a wide variety of biological feedstock. The total European Bioeconomy amounts to a 2.1 trillion EUR turnover and provides 18.3 million jobs, which accounts for approximately 9% of the total EU workforce 1. The EU has declared the bio-based products sector to be a priority area with high potential for future growth, reindustrialisation, and addressing societal challenges. Ιn this report, a review of the application areas and market penetration of the following bio-based market segments is attempted, along with an assessment of possible barriers to uptake and growth and future trends that characterize each specific sector: Bio-based chemicals and building blocks; Bioenergy and biofuels; Bioplastics/ biomaterials; Bio-based food and feed ingredients; Biosurfactants; Biolubricants. This analysis was made following a review of relevant literature and based on several qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the bio-based production domain. Additionally, information about the supply chains of bio-based products (relating to biomass feedstock used, processes and biorefineries) and about existing legislation and policy framework is presented

Quarterly Report (QR1)

In the first quarter of the project, the participants have successfully laid the foundations for creating a stable, comprehensive, open-source cloud platform. The project has put in place the tools and processes to quickly build and expand the StratusLab distribution. Through dialog with targeted communities and through the partners' experience it has developed the initial architecture of the StratusLab distribution. The initial releases have been validated on the project's cloud infrastructure and the project has put in place the mechanisms for disseminating release information once StratusLab makes its first public release
