Objective. Children’s health perception through creative
drawing language the identification of external factors perceived
as negative or positive to health by children. Methodology. A
descriptive study that describes the analysis of the expressive
language of drawings and written comments. The sample
consisted of 130 children in 3rd and 4th classes from four
randomly selected schools, in the region of Central Portugal
Continental (Coimbra district). The study was conducted during
the first semester of 2011. The data collection was performed
by means of Rodrigues’ drawing/writing sheet. This sheet is
divided in 4 areas (2 of them to draw what children consider
good for health and the other 2 to write the content or message
of the drawings). The themes expressed are classified based
on the priority areas for the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Results. children value healthy food, physical activity, mental
health, prevention of inappropriate substance consumption and
health and environment. The drawings and comments show
links between diet and physical exercise, and between mental
health and interpersonal relationships. Conclusion. Drawings
and comments facilitate health professionals understanding
of children’s perception of health positive and negative factors.
The results of the study allow planning intervention strategies in
school health from infant perception
Matthew Lipman: testimonies and homages
We lead off this issue of Childhood and Philosophy with a
collection of testimonies, homages, and brief memoirs
offered from around the world in response to the death of
the founder of Philosophy for Children, Matthew Lipman
on December 26, 2010, at the age of 87. To characterize
Lipman as “founder” is completely accurate, but barely
evokes the role he played in conceiving, giving birth to, and
nurturing this curriculum cum pedagogy that became a
movement, and which has taken root in over 40 countries,
from Iceland to Nigeria to Taiwan to Chile and everywhere in between. The movement itself
is broader than the program, which has in fact experienced multiple transformations in
multiple contexts over its half-century of life. In fact, as many of the testimonies below
either state outright or imply, the movement is an emancipatory one and thus implicitly
political, infused with all the long-suffering hope for our species inspired in us by the fact of
natality, and by our own intuitive faith in the transformative power of reason—or as Lipman
came to call it, “reasonableness.” For those seized by its educational possibilities, it presents
a sudden influx of sunlight and fresh air into an institution long stultified by its own rigid
habitus, and promises the reconstruction of schooling in the image of authentic democratic
practice that recognizes and honors the unique capacities of children. As Philosophy in the
Classroom—Lipman’s first and now classic statement of educational philosophy--puts it, the
movement promises a re-orientation of the goal of education from information (or
“learning”) to meaning, and inaugurates the dialogue with childhood and children that
follows from that. Lipman was not just founder of this movement but creator, inventor,
developer, convener, organizer, faithful soldier, ambassador, apologist, polemicist,
propagandist, and, finally, undying optimist
Intergenerationality in a Digital World: Proposals of Activities:Bilingual (EN and PT)
Media Education has gained momentum in recent years, but this area still needs to be improved, especially in terms of how it is perceived and implemented among citizens. This e-book is the result of this concern. The activities are diverse and include a digital component, without forgetting the connection to other non-digital devices in daily life. These 20 proposals of the e-book Intergeracionalidade e o mundo digital: Propostas de atividades/Intergenerationality in a Digital World: Proposals of activities intend to respond to the need that people, besides children in education, question, think and act on the interpellations of a mediatised world full of information available.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Philosophy with children : learning to live well
Philosophy with Children, in all its guises, aims to engender philosophical thinking and reasoning in children. Much is written about what participation in philosophy might do for children academically and emotionally. What is proposed here is that by allowing children to participate in philosophical dialogue they will learn an approach that might support their participation in society which might involve them in the consideration and airing of their views, making decisions and their interactions and relationships with others. It is inevitable that by living with others one encounters others’ values. It is essential, therefore, that children learn how to deal with others’ values but also that they learn how to develop their own through questioning and reflection. Rather than teach children about values or teach them the values they should hold, this article suggests that children should be afforded opportunities to explore a range of perspectives but that they need to learn how to do this. In addition, though, in order to live harmoniously with others, there are considerations beyond ethics to be encountered. Children need to learn how to engage with politics, art, science, literature, and the wider range of issues that comprise life in a society. Indeed, children need to learn what is required of being a citizen. Here the learning of the child is contextualised in the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, where children are expected to be able “to make informed choices and decisions” and to “develop informed, ethical views of complex issues” (Scottish Executive, 2004, p.12) as part of their education for citizenship. If being a citizen involves these elements, then there is a challenge to teachers as to how children will achieve the desired outcomes. The aim of such a curriculum is that children ‘learn for life’ by acquiring life skills in order that society will benefit. It is posited, in this article, that by participating in philosophical dialogue one is likely to foster appreciation for others and their perspectives, that one’s own values and opinions evolve, and that this philosophical outlook may, in fact, work for the betterment of society. Indeed, what is suggested is that in doing philosophy one learns how to live well

Movement patterns during the process of standing up in children with spastic diplegia
Infantil - RCNEI (1998), comparando o significado dado do termo educar. O objetivo
