    Continuance intention to use electronic collection system in Nigerian federal hospitals

    Computerized information systems are being used by public sector organizations in the world over. However, studies have shown that there is under-utilization of such systems in the developing countries. Even though there are considerable numbers of studies that were conducted in finding out the influencing factors that lead to voluntary use of technology for personal use, still there are limited empirical studies that investigate the factors that influence continuance use intention of electronic information systems in mandatory system use environments in Nigeria. Thus, the purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the influence of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived information quality and perceived enjoyment on the continuance use intention of electronic collection system in Nigerian federal hospitals. It also examines the moderating effect of computer selfefficacy on the relationship between perceived usefulness and continuance intention; and perceived ease of use and continuance intention. The study employs a crosssectional survey and uses cluster sampling technique to collect data from 354 electronic collection system users with the help of self-administered questionnaire. Out of the 354 questionnaires distributed, 274 were returned, but only 231 responses representing 65% response rate were valid for analysis. The findings of the study revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived information quality positively and significantly influence continuance intention, whereas perceived enjoyment does not. In addition, the result shows that computer selfefficacy does not moderate the relationship between perceived usefulness and continuance intention; and perceived ease of use and continuance intention. Though the study had contributed in extending the Technology Acceptance Model to explain the behavior of public sector employees toward electronic system use in the workplace, it is only applicable to federal government hospitals alone. Therefore, further studies could be conducted to include other hospitals at both state and local government levels in Nigeria

This includes using the internet as both a communication tool and an information source to improve efficiency in their services. Access to, and growth of these online communication mediums due to the internet has created new opportunities for the public sector; thus, forcing the public sector to adapt to this changing environment by introducing online products and services. However, not all the citizens are making use of these changes; particularly, for the purposes of this research, the older adults. Of all the various age groups in society, the ageing population is one that is presently causing immense concern. Therefore, the aim of this research-in-progress paper is to understand and identify the factors that encourage older adults to continue using a particular online communication channel when interacting with the government.     The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT): a literature review

    YesPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to perform a systematic review of articles that have used the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). Design/methodology/approach – The results produced in this research are based on the literature analysis of 174 existing articles on the UTAUT model. This has been performed by collecting data including demographic details, methodological details, limitations, and significance of relationships between the constructs from the available articles based on the UTAUT. Findings – The findings indicated that general purpose systems and specialized business systems were examined in the majority of the articles using the UTAUT. The analysis also indicated that crosssectional approach, survey methods, and structural equation modelling analysis techniques were the most explored research methodologies whereas SPSS was found to be the largely used analysis tools. Moreover, the weight analysis of independent variables indicates that variables such as performance expectancy and behavioural intention qualified for the best predictor category. Moreover, the analysis also suggested that single subject or biased sample as the most explored limitation across all studies. Research limitations/implications – The search activities were centered on occurrences of keywords to avoid tracing a large number of publications where these keywords might have been used as casual words in the main text. However, we acknowledge that there may be a number of studies, which lack keywords in the title, but still focus upon UTAUT in some form. Originality/value – This is the first research of its type which has extensively examined the literature on the UTAUT and provided the researchers with the accumulative knowledge about the model

    Online retailing in India has shown tremendous growth in the recent years. However as compared to the other countries leading in online retailing, India is still in its initial stage of development. The purpose of this study was to explore the factors influencing the online buying behavior of the college students. Convenience sampling method was used to select the sample of 25 college students and qualitative content analysis was used for analyzing the textual content of the depth interview data.     Do types of gadgets used for online learning have a bearing on student academic performance?

    This paper explores the impacts of using smartphones vs laptops on students' academic achievement in their English courses and their satisfaction in learning English via open distance learning (ODL). Experiments were conducted in authentic teaching sessions with a total of 304 undergraduates from a local university. The methodology applied is a quasi-experimental design with post-test-only. Results indicate that the relationship between the grade obtained and level of satisfaction with gadget is low and not significant at 5% level of significance. However, there is a significant relationship between the level of satisfaction towards gadgets used for learning English courses and learning English via ODL classes since the p-value is significant with a correlation value of 0.455. Finally, there is a low correlation between the grade obtained and level of satisfaction in learning English during ODL classes. Future research should be conducted to further check on the effects of using mobile phones against other mobile devices on other subjects learnt in the universities

    Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is being increasingly recognized as needing vital emphasis at a national level. To enhance learning in Science and Mathematics, the repertoire of vocabularies plays a significant role. As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues its spread across the world, people’s vocabulary learning has been limited. Responding to this situation with appropriate awareness, e-learning is being applied to teach the English language. The intent of this study is to utilize Quizizz to enhance the vocabulary achievement among primary English as Second Language (ESL) pupils in rural schools. The study’s research employed mixed methods with purposive sampling of 13 participants. The research site was a rural school located 60km from the nearest town. The data were collected both pre and post-test as designed by the researcher and Likert scale questionnaire. The data was analyzed using appropriate quantitative analysis. To shed more light on the implementation, a thematic analysis by use of a semi-structured interview was conducted. The study finds that 10 out of 13 participants have shown an increase in their post-test of filling in the blank scoring test. The data is strengthened by a moderately high mean score of a Likert scale questionnaire. Furthermore, the participants highlighted that the Quizizz’s leaderboard matched their favored learning style. In this way, this feature tends to evoke a positive learning atmosphere. Thus, it can be concluded that Quizizz could enhance vocabulary achievement among primary English as Secondary Language (ESL) pupils in rural schools

    Personality, top management support, continuance intention to use electronic health record system among nurses in Jordan

    Electronic health record system (EHRs) is preferred as standard documentation to track patient information and office visits. It is acclaimed as technological breakthrough capable to improve the healthcare industry’s service delivery and system quality. Accordingly, Jordanian government initiated EHRs implementation in all public hospitals. However, only eleven out of 35 public hospitals have fully implemented EHRs and their usage remains low. Moreover, empirical research associated to the particular concern of EHRs is insufficient and the effort to appraise it is low considering its extensive ongoing implementation. Besides, comprehending and explaining nurses’ continuous intention (CI) to use EHRs are crucial to gauge EHRs usage in Jordan. Considering the problem, this study highlighted on continuous intention (CI) of nurses to use EHRs model by incorporating the following theories; the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), Expectation-Confirmation Theory (ECT) and Five Factor Model (FFM). The model is insinuated to investigate whether UTAUT factors namely effort expectancy, performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, FFM domains (conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, openness to experience, and agreeableness) and Top Management Support (TMS) predict nurses’ CI to use EHRs. Total responses are 497 nurses. Partial Least Squares technique used for analysis. Results revealed significant positive relationship between UTAUT factors and CI. However, there is no significant evidence of relationship between TMS and CI. The study also disclosed significant mediating influence of performance expectancy on two separate hypotheses concerning two predictors namely agreeableness and openness to experience on CI. Additionally, the study revealed significant moderation impact of conscientiousness on the relationship between both performance expectancy and social influence with CI. The study has illustrated important attention to substantive differences between acceptance and continuance to use behaviors

    Social Media Use by College Students and Teachers: An Application of UTAUT2

    Social media has been increasingly used in education to facilitate innovative instruction. Mainland Chinese people could not use popular social media platforms such as FacebookTM because the government blocked them. Little research studied social media use by Mainland Chinese students and teachers in the isolated network environment. This quantitative study utilized social constructivism, connectivism, and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) as the theoretical base. Research questions explored the influence of 6 UTAUT2 predictors on social media use intention and the influence of social media use intention on social media use behavior. The study used a convenience sample of 197 undergraduate students and 54 full-time faculty from 2 public science and technology universities in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, Mainland China. Survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, simple regression, multiple regression, and moderation analysis. The findings showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and habit significantly influenced social media use intention, and social media use intention significantly influenced social media use behavior. Age moderated the relationship between facilitating conditions and social media use intention, and gender moderated the relationship between habit and social media use intention. The findings might be used to promote positive social change by providing insights of social media use by Chinese students and teachers for university administrators, government, and social media platform designers. Better understanding might facilitate adoption of social media in education and therefore improve teaching and learning for Mainland Chinese students

    Internet and social media in Malaysia: Development, challenges and potentials

    The penetration of the Internet and social media has helped Malaysia abreast with the other developed countries. Nonetheless, being a multicultural country, Malaysia has to ensure her multiracial population lives in harmony and peace. This happens with the help integrated the media control and regulations exercise in Malaysia: the Printing Presses and Publications Act, Film Censorship Act, Broadcasting Act, Communication and Multimedia Act, and media ownership control. Many researches have been conducted pertaining to the Internet and social media that have been published locally in line with the development of the Internet and the social media in Malaysia. Similarly, the new media is also subjected to its being controlled through methods such as controlling the Internet, blocking and filtering, and content removal. The paper also looks into the impact of the Internet and social media on its civil society, thus creating a momentum to promote toward giving suggestions for future research involving not only theories but also models using more sophisticated analyses. More research can be done and the future of research is bright. Other areas that can be looked at are the impacts of the Internet and social media on the young populace of the nation
