Analysis of a benchmark suite to evaluate mixed numeric and symbolic processing
The suite of programs that formed the benchmark for a proposed advanced computer is described and analyzed. The features of the processor and its operating system that are tested by the benchmark are discussed. The computer codes and the supporting data for the analysis are given as appendices
On the Energy Efficiency of LT Codes in Proactive Wireless Sensor Networks
This paper presents an in-depth analysis on the energy efficiency of Luby
Transform (LT) codes with Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) modulation in a Wireless
Sensor Network (WSN) over Rayleigh fading channels with pathloss. We describe a
proactive system model according to a flexible duty-cycling mechanism utilized
in practical sensor apparatus. The present analysis is based on realistic
parameters including the effect of channel bandwidth used in the IEEE 802.15.4
standard, active mode duration and computation energy. A comprehensive
analysis, supported by some simulation studies on the probability mass function
of the LT code rate and coding gain, shows that among uncoded FSK and various
classical channel coding schemes, the optimized LT coded FSK is the most
energy-efficient scheme for distance d greater than the pre-determined
threshold level d_T , where the optimization is performed over coding and
modulation parameters. In addition, although the optimized uncoded FSK
outperforms coded schemes for d < d_T , the energy gap between LT coded and
uncoded FSK is negligible for d < d_T compared to the other coded schemes.
These results come from the flexibility of the LT code to adjust its rate to
suit instantaneous channel conditions, and suggest that LT codes are beneficial
in practical low-power WSNs with dynamic position sensor nodes.Comment: accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processin
A regret model applied to the maximum capture location problem
This article addresses issues related to location and allocation problems. Herein, we intend to demonstrate the influence of congestion, through the random number generation, of such systems in final solutions. An algorithm is presented which, in addition to the GRASP, incorporates the Regret with the pminmax method to evaluate the heuristic solution obtained with regard to its robustness for different scenarios. Taking as our point of departure the Maximum Capture Location Problem proposed by Church and Revelle [1, 26], an alternative perspective is added in which the choice behavior of the server does not depend only on the elapsed time from the demand point looking to the center, but includes also the service waiting time.N/
A unified radio control architecture for prototyping adaptive wireless protocols
Experimental optimization of wireless protocols and validation of novel solutions is often problematic, due to limited configuration space present in commercial wireless interfaces as well as complexity of monolithic driver implementation on SDR-based experimentation platforms. To overcome these limitations a novel software architecture is proposed, called WiSHFUL, devised to allow: i) maximal exploitation of radio functionalities available in current radio chips, and ii) clean separation between the logic for optimizing the radio protocols (i.e. radio control) and the definition of these protocols
