Cloud computing in the Educational sector has immensely enhanced academic performance in the developed nations and the professional contributions may benefit the education strategy of Nigeria particularly in transforming the traditional education model to computer based virtual applications with a focus on e-pedagogy. Cloud computing remains a paradox and open to academic debate with respect to business adoption of its utility, and studies depict that cloud computing to an extent is still at its early incubation in institutions of higher learning; that also affirms the infancy of cloud computing in academia, and this has caused the dearth of a unified definition and understanding of cloud computing. However, this study will develop academic definition and meaning of cloud computing with reference to institutional applications This study will also explore the benefits of cloud computing in learning, and focus on the development of relevant models for resource usage in higher education institutions. Author shows that successful adoption of cloud computing by various educational institutions in Nigeria depends on their transition strategies in terms of resource acquisition and deployment. These strategies could form barriers in delivering effective teaching learning, and assessment of instruments encountered through migrating to the cloud. Hence this study is geared towards bridging the gap between the usage of cloud computing in education and effective delivery of educational services via the \u27cloud\u27 in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Nigeria

Proceedings of: 2010 IEEE 3rd International Conference on Cloud Computing, CLOUD 2010, 5-10 July, Miami, Florida, USACloud Computing is evolving from a mere "storage" technology to a new vehicle for Business Information Systems (BIS) to manage, organize and provide added-value strategies to current business models. However, the underlying infrastructure for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to become a new platform for trading partners and transactions must rely on intelligent, flexible, context-aware Multi-Tenant Architectures. In this paper, we present Cloudio, a Cloud Computing-based metadata-powered Multi-Tenant Architecture, backed with a proof-of-concept J2EE implementation. This work is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Commerce under the project GODO2 (TSI- 020100-2008-564), SONAR2 (TSI-020100-2008-665), and SITIO (TSI-0204000-2009-148), under the PIBES (TEC2006-12365-C02-01) and MID-CBR (TIN2006-15140- C03-02) projects of the Spanish Committee of Education & Science.Publicad

"A one-stop guide for implementing cloud computing. Cloud computing can save your library time and money by enabling convenient, on-demand network access to resources like servers and applications. Libraries that take advantage of the cloud have fewer IT headaches because data centers provide continuous updates and mobility that standard computing cannot easily provide, which means less time and energy spent on software, and more time and energy to devote to the library's day to day mission and services. Here, leading LITA experts demystify language, deflate hype, and provide library-specific examples of real-world success you can emulate to guarantee efficiency and savings. Among several features, this book helps you select data access and file sharing services, build digital repositories, and utilize other cloud computing applications in your library. Together, you and the cloud can save time and money, and build the information destination your patrons will love."--Publisher's website.Edward M. International audienceThere is a growing interest around the utilisation of cloud computing in education. As organisations involved in the area typically face severe budget restrictions, there is a need for cost optimisation mechanisms that explore unique features of digital learning environments. In this work, we introduce a method based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation that considers heterogeneity of IT infrastructure in order to devise resource allocation plans that maximise platform utilisation for educational environments. We performed experiments using modelled datasets from real digital teaching solutions and obtained cost reductions of up to 30%, compared with conservative resource allocation strategies

Review of the environmental and organisational implications of cloud computing: final report.

Cloud computing – where elastic computing resources are delivered over the Internet by external service providers – is generating significant interest within HE and FE. In the cloud computing business model, organisations or individuals contract with a cloud computing service provider on a pay-per-use basis to access data centres, application software or web services from any location. This provides an elasticity of provision which the customer can scale up or down to meet demand. This form of utility computing potentially opens up a new paradigm in the provision of IT to support administrative and educational functions within HE and FE. Further, the economies of scale and increasingly energy efficient data centre technologies which underpin cloud services means that cloud solutions may also have a positive impact on carbon footprints. In response to the growing interest in cloud computing within UK HE and FE, JISC commissioned the University of Strathclyde to undertake a Review of the Environmental and Organisational Implications of Cloud Computing in Higher and Further Education [19]

What role does corporate governance play in the intention to use cloud computing technology?

This paper aims to investigate the factors which promote the adoption of cloud-based technology. It strives for a better understanding of the impact of corporate governance on the adoption of this technology. This study concentrated on executives in companies where the use of cloud computing may give a competitive advantage. The main contribution of this work is to propose a model for the influence of corporate governance and other factors that determine the adoption of this technology. A questionnaire was prepared after taking into consideration the reviewed literature. The sample consisted of 164 technology companies from Southern Spain that already use the new economic models for digital solutions. The methodology used to analyze the structural model was the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results of the survey showed the influence of Corporate Governance and the procedures and practices of the organization on the adoption of cloud computing and the associated business model. This study aims to point out the importance of corporate support and Knowledge Management for the correct and successful adoption of this technology and to show the effects on the new business model of billing for the use of available resources. AbstractThis paper presents the necessity and the benefits of using smart solutions in educational systems. The current stage of our society involves the development of educational systems through a collaborative learning environmentthat includes mobile devices, wireless technologies, cloud computing, and other smart solutions. The continuous improvement of the quality and performance of education is essential and requires the efficient use of smart solutions. Therefore, it is essential to define a set of metrics to assess the use of smart solutions in educational systems. These metrics represent a starting point in formulating objectives and strategies for improved educational systems
