WOMAN REPRESENTATION AT BUMPER STICKERS ON THE BACKS OF DUMP TRUCKS

    Get PDF
The use of woman as a commercial object or advertisements through written expression by the drivers at the bumper stickers on the backs of dump trucks is rapidly adopted. It is said that the more peculiar of the written expression, the higher prestige earned by the truck drivers. This research aims to analysis the bumper stickers on the backs of dump trucks that use woman as an object of its written expression by using appraisal system. The data used in this research are from blogs through online that list some bumper stickers from Jabotabek area. The methods used to analyze the data are referential method and substitusional method. The result reveals that the representation of woman as an object of written expression at the bumper stickers on the backs of dump trucks always has negative connotation, especially as an object of sexual matters by the men

    Spacecraft ceramic protective shield

A low areal density protective shield apparatus, and method for making same, for protecting spacecraft structures from impact with hypervelocity objects, including a bumper member comprising a bumper ceramic layer, a bumper shock attenuator layer, and a bumper confining layer. The bumper ceramic layer can be SiC or B.sub.4 C; the bumper shock attenuator layer can be zirconia felt; and the bumper confining layer can be aluminum. A base armor member can be spaced from the bumper member and a ceramic fiber-based curtain can be positioned between the bumper and base armor members

Comparison of continuous and discontinuous collisional bumpers: Dimensionally scaled impact experiments into single wire meshes

    Get PDF
An experimental inquiry into the utility of discontinuous bumpers was conducted to investigate the collisional outcomes of impacts into single grid-like targets and to compare the results with more traditional bumper designs that employ continuous sheet stock. We performed some 35 experiments using 6.3 and 3.2 mm diameter spherical soda-lime glass projectiles at low velocities (less than 2.5 km/s) and 13 at velocities between 5 and 6 km/s, using 3.2 mm spheres only. The thrust of the experiments related to the characterization of collisional fragments as a function of target thickness or areal shield mass of both bumper designs. The primary product of these experiments was witness plates that record the resulting population of collisional fragments. Substantial interpretive and predictive insights into bumper performance were obtained. All qualitative observations (on the witness plates) and detailed measurements of displaced masses seem simply and consistently related only to bumper mass available for interaction with the impactor. This renders the grid bumper into the superior shield design. These findings present evidence that discontinuous bumpers are a viable concept for collisional shields, possibly superior to continuous geometries

Meteoroid bumper experiment on Explorer 46

    Get PDF
The effectiveness of a meteoroid bumper in reducing meteoroid penetrations is discussed. The bumper reduced the penetration flux by a factor of 30 and demonstrated a weight savings of a factor of 6.9 in the material needed to resist meteoroid penetration. The method of calculating the penetration flux recommended in the NASA space vehicle design criteria for meteoroid damage assessment was found to be very conservative, and changes are suggested. The optimum distribution of material between a bumper and the main wall is discussed

Short-Term and Medium-Term Prospects of Agricultural Sector in Gujarat – Some Policy Recommendations

    Get PDF
By mid-September, 2003 it is becoming clear that Gujarat is likely to experience a bumper crop in the year 2003-04. The State Ministry of Agriculture is looking for some concrete suggestions, advice and policy recommendations to better manage the situation likely to be created by the bumper crop this year. Falling prices in the face of bumper crop can considerably wipe out positive effect on agricultural incomes in the hands of farmers in the State. Short-term measures to avoid such a situation need to be integrated into medium term and long term development strategy for the State agricultural sector. The present paper provides some implementable policy recommendations in this context.

Pengembangan Bumper Depan Mobil Pick Up Multiguna Pedesaan

Tim Pengembangan Mobil Jurusan Teknik Mesin ITS bekerja sama dengan PT. INKA, PT. Railindo Global Karya, dan PT. Karya Tugas Anda melakukan pengembangan mobil GEA. Proses pembuatan bumper dengan metode wet-lay up

An evaluation of aerodynamics performance of a moving car with wind turbine system

    Get PDF
This study presents a simulation result of an evaluation of the aerodynamic performance of a moving car with a wind turbine system. Sedan type cars (approaching the size of Proton Wira car) were modeled using the SolidWork software and simulation was done by ANSYS FLUENT software. Three car models with different wind turbine system positions (in front of the front bumper, on top of the hood and on top of the roof) plus one model without the wind turbine system were simulated. The study proved that the position of the wind turbine system installation will change the characteristic of the air flow around the car body and affects the aerodynamic performance of the car. Extended front bumper of a car is not significantly affecting the aerodynamics performance of the car. This extended bumper seems to be the suitable area to install a wind turbine system and the investigation shows that the aerodynamics performance of the car improved due to the lower drag coefficient, Cd. Optimum power generation will be based upon the amount of air velocity the duct system create in order to rotate the blades

PERFORMANCE OF AN AUTOMOTIVE BUMPER FROM LALLOH (Corchorus triden L.) PLANT FIBRE REINFORCED EPOXY COMPOSITE UNDER MODIFIED DYNATUP MODEL 8150 TEST

The work presented here is the production of an automotive Bumper from Lalloh plant (Corchorus tridenL.) fibre reinforced epoxy composite and its performance evaluation using the drop weight test method. An impact test was carried out on the bumper using a test rig modeled after the Dynatup Model 8150 drop weight test set up. Two test variants were used that is, with the bumper completely restraint and the bumper restraint at two-points. The bumper damage were assessed using a set of criteria as outlined by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Results obtained showed that the bumper performed satisfactorily under the completely restraint condition. However, there were, tears, distortion and delamination observed on the bumper after the two-point constraint test. Although the extent of the tear, distortion and delamination were minimal which did not result in the shattering of the bumper. This therefore showed that, the bumper was able to absorb the impact energy by confining the damage to itself, thereby protecting adjacent components
