Methods of power line interference elimination in EMG signals
Electromyogram (EMG) recordings are often corrupted by the wide range of artifacts, which one of them is power line interference (PLI). The study focuses on some of the well-known signal processing approaches used to eliminate or attenuate PLI from EMG signal. The results are compared using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), correlation coefficients and Bland-Altman analysis for each tested method: notch filter, adaptive noise canceller (ANC) and wavelet transform (WT). Thus, the power of the remaining noise and shape of the output signal are analysed. The results show that the ANC method gives the best output SNR and lowest shape distortion compared to the other methods.Web of Science40706
Suppression of Second-Order Harmonic Current for Droop-Controlled Distributed Energy Resource Converters in DC Microgrids
Droop-controlled distributed energy resource converters in dc microgrids usually show low output impedances. When coupled with ac systems, second-order harmonics typically appear on the dc-bus voltage, causing significant harmonic currents at the converters resource side. This paper shows how to reduce such undesired currents by means of notch filters and resonant regulators included in the converters control loops. The main characteristics of these techniques in terms of harmonic attenuation and stability are systematically investigated. In particular, it is shown that the voltage control-loop bandwidth is limited to be below twice the line frequency to avoid instability. Then, a modified notch filter and a modified resonant regulator are proposed, allowing to remove the constraint on the voltage loop bandwidth. The resulting methods (i.e., the notch filter, the resonant regulator, and their corresponding modified versions) are evaluated in terms of output impedance and stability. Exploitation of Digital Filters to Advance the Single-Phase T/4 Delay PLL System
With the development of digital signal processing technologies, control and monitoring of power electronics conversion systems have been evolving to become fully digital. As the basic element in the design and analysis phases of digital controllers or filters, a number of unit delays (z-1) have been employed, e.g., in a cascaded structure. Practically, the number of unit delays is designed as an integer, which is related to the sampling frequency as well as the ac signal fundamental frequency (e.g., 50 Hz). More common, the sampling frequency is fixed during operation for simplicity and design. Hence, any disturbance in the ac signal will violate this design rule and it can become a major challenge for digital controllers. To deal with the above issue, this paper first exploits a virtual unit delay (zv-1) to emulate the variable sampling behavior in practical digital signal processors with a fixed sampling rate. This exploitation is demonstrated on a T/4 Delay Phase Locked Loop (PLL) system for a single-phase grid-connected inverter. The T/4 Delay PLL requires to cascade 50 unit delays when implemented (for a 50-Hz system with 10 kHz sampling frequency). Furthermore, digital frequency adaptive comb filters are adopted to enhance the performance of the T/4 Delay PLL when the grid suffers from harmonics. Experimental results have confirmed the effectiveness of the digital filters for advanced control systems
Notch Filtering Suitable for Real Time Removal of Power Line Interference
This paper presents a high performance notch filtering for real time suppression of power line interference in a general signal. The disturbing signal is suppressed using an optimal notch FIR filter with tunable notch frequency. The tuning of the filter preserves its selectivity, most importantly the specified attenuation at the notch frequency. One example and two Matlab functions demonstrate the performance, robustness and usefulness of the proposed procedure for the design and tuning of optimal notch FIR filters suitable in the real time notch filtering
Unit circle MVDR beamformer
The array polynomial is the z-transform of the array weights for a narrowband
planewave beamformer using a uniform linear array (ULA). Evaluating the array
polynomial on the unit circle in the complex plane yields the beampattern. The
locations of the polynomial zeros on the unit circle indicate the nulls of the
beampattern. For planewave signals measured with a ULA, the locations of the
ensemble MVDR polynomial zeros are constrained on the unit circle. However,
sample matrix inversion (SMI) MVDR polynomial zeros generally do not fall on
the unit circle. The proposed unit circle MVDR (UC MVDR) projects the zeros of
the SMI MVDR polynomial radially on the unit circle. This satisfies the
constraint on the zeros of ensemble MVDR polynomial. Numerical simulations show
that the UC MVDR beamformer suppresses interferers better than the SMI MVDR and
the diagonal loaded MVDR beamformer and also improves the white noise gain

Improved Transients in Multiple Frequencies Estimation via Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing
A problem of performance enhancement for multiple frequencies estimation is
studied. First, we consider a basic gradient-based estimation approach with
global exponential convergence. Next, we apply dynamic regressor extension and
mixing technique to improve transient performance of the basic approach and
ensure non-strict monotonicity of estimation errors. Simulation results
