EDUCATING, EVALUATING, ADVISING, AND ENTERTAINING - DIGITAL INFLUENCERS AND THEIR NARRATIVES

Organizations have been increasingly exploring storytelling as a valuable strategy to engage customers to increase their attention and retention. Social media platforms like Instagram have become essential tools for many brands to use storytelling through influencers. In this study, we explore the narratives constructed by digital influencers, as they play a crucial role in shaping their brand image and engagement with their audience. By analysing the narrative strategies used by digital influencers, we contribute to a deeper understanding of the role and impact of digital storytelling. We identify, illustrate, and discuss four narrative strategies: educating, evaluating, advising, and entertaining. Our study motivates further research to develop a detailed conceptual understanding of digital influencers and digital storytelling

MuG: A Multilevel Graph Representation for Big Data Interpretation

Our society is oriented towards data production. The increasingly massive spread of mobile devices and the Internet of Things is transforming our society into a data factory. Data, however, does not immediately lead to knowledge and, in fact we can become overwhelmed with a mass of information that is difficult to understand: often the desire to predict the future from data analysis turns into the nightmare of data overload. There are numerous approaches, automatic and manual, present in the literature that try to interpret data by extracting information. Among the various methodologies proposed, none seems to have resolved the problem in a definitive and universal way, perhaps because every data analysis problem needs to be faced from a different point of view. This paper introduces an approach for the interpretation of data from sensors located within a city. Three graphs (Ontologies, Context Dimension Tree and Bayesian Networks) were chosen for the representation of the scenarios both from the point of view of the sensors involved and of the services and events connected to the data. Through the Ontologies and the Context Dimension Tree it is possible to analyze the scenario from a syntactic and semantic point of view constructing Bayes networks that enable the estimation of the probability that some events happen. A first empirical analysis conducted on some districts of London seems to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method

The explosion of digital storytelling. Creator's perspective and creative processes on new narrative forms

Networked digital narratives are developed in a society marked by distrust in meta-narratives, liquidity and tension between Mass Media and New Media. This research aims to delve into these narratives from the creators’ perspective, analyzing new formats, authors and creative processes that are put into practice. For that purpose, the applied methodology combines in-depth interviews with creators with discourse analysis, and arts based research with the technique of the research journal. The results reveal an overflow of the classical conception of narrative, a trend towards convergence, and the dominance of visual and sequential creative thinking over alphabeticalcontinuous thinking. It also shows a series of clues for the creation of digital narratives: interactivity, hypermedia, transmedia, virtuality and connectivity. Finally, we highlight that creators do not have preestablished guidelines and follow the procedure of trial and error for the construction of their narratives

Technology-Powered Strategies to Rethink the Pedagogy of History and Cultural Heritage through Symmetries and Narratives

Recent advances in semantic web and deep learning technologies enable new means for the computational analysis of vast amounts of information from the field of digital humanities. We discuss how some of the techniques can be used to identify historical and cultural symmetries between different characters, locations, events or venues, and how these can be harnessed to develop new strategies to promote intercultural and cross-border aspects that support the teaching and learning of history and heritage. The strategies have been put to the test in the context of the European project CrossCult, revealing enormous potential to encourage curiosity to discover new information and increase retention of learned information

Digital 3D Technologies for Humanities Research and Education: An Overview

    Get PDF
Digital 3D modelling and visualization technologies have been widely applied to support research in the humanities since the 1980s. Since technological backgrounds, project opportunities, and methodological considerations for application are widely discussed in the literature, one of the next tasks is to validate these techniques within a wider scientific community and establish them in the culture of academic disciplines. This article resulted from a postdoctoral thesis and is intended to provide a comprehensive overview on the use of digital 3D technologies in the humanities with regards to (1) scenarios, user communities, and epistemic challenges; (2) technologies, UX design, and workflows; and (3) framework conditions as legislation, infrastructures, and teaching programs. Although the results are of relevance for 3D modelling in all humanities disciplines, the focus of our studies is on modelling of past architectural and cultural landscape objects via interpretative 3D reconstruction methods
