QoS multicast tree construction in IP/DWDM optical internet by bio-inspired algorithms
Copyright @ Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. In this paper, two bio-inspired Quality of Service (QoS) multicast algorithms are proposed in IP over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical Internet. Given a QoS multicast request and the delay interval required by the application, both algorithms are able to find a flexible QoS-based cost suboptimal routing tree. They first construct the multicast trees based on ant colony optimization and artificial immune algorithm, respectively. Then a dedicated wavelength assignment algorithm is proposed to assign wavelengths to the trees aiming to minimize the delay of the wavelength conversion. In both algorithms, multicast routing and wavelength assignment are integrated into a single process. Therefore, they can find the multicast trees on which the least wavelength conversion delay is achieved. Load balance is also considered in both algorithms. Simulation results show that these two bio-inspired algorithms can construct high performance QoS routing trees for multicast applications in IP/DWDM optical Internet. This work was supported in part ny the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of UK under Grant EP/E060722/1, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant no. 60673159 and 70671020, the National High-Tech Reasearch and Development Plan of China under Grant no. 2007AA041201, and the Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education under Grant no. 20070145017
A Local Search Modeling for Constrained Optimum Paths Problems (Extended Abstract)
Constrained Optimum Path (COP) problems appear in many real-life
applications, especially on communication networks. Some of these problems have
been considered and solved by specific techniques which are usually difficult
to extend. In this paper, we introduce a novel local search modeling for
solving some COPs by local search. The modeling features the compositionality,
modularity, reuse and strengthens the benefits of Constrained-Based Local
Search. We also apply the modeling to the edge-disjoint paths problem (EDP). We
show that side constraints can easily be added in the model. Computational
results show the significance of the approach
New genetic algorithm approach for the min-degree constrained minimum spanning tree
A novel approach is proposed for the NP-hard min-degree constrained minimum spanning tree (md-MST). The NP-hardness of the md-MST demands that heuristic approximations are used to tackle its intractability and thus an original genetic algorithm strategy is described using an improvement of the Martins-Souza heuristic to obtain a md-MST feasible solution, which is also presented. The genetic approach combines the latter improvement with three new approximations based on different chromosome representations for trees that employ diverse crossover operators. The genetic versions compare very favourably with the best known results in terms of both the run time and obtaining better quality solutions. In particular, new lower bounds are established for instances with higher dimensions.info:eu-repo/semantics/submittedVersio
An Order-based Algorithm for Minimum Dominating Set with Application in Graph Mining
Dominating set is a set of vertices of a graph such that all other vertices
have a neighbour in the dominating set. We propose a new order-based randomised
local search (RLS) algorithm to solve minimum dominating set problem in
large graphs. Experimental evaluation is presented for multiple types of
problem instances. These instances include unit disk graphs, which represent a
model of wireless networks, random scale-free networks, as well as samples from
two social networks and real-world graphs studied in network science. Our
experiments indicate that RLS performs better than both a classical greedy
approximation algorithm and two metaheuristic algorithms based on ant colony
optimisation and local search. The order-based algorithm is able to find small
dominating sets for graphs with tens of thousands of vertices. In addition, we
propose a multi-start variant of RLS that is suitable for solving the
minimum weight dominating set problem. The application of RLS in graph
mining is also briefly demonstrated
