    Cyber–Physical–Social Frameworks for Urban Big Data Systems: A Survey

    The integration of things’ data on the Web and Web linking for things’ description and discovery is leading the way towards smart Cyber–Physical Systems (CPS). The data generated in CPS represents observations gathered by sensor devices about the ambient environment that can be manipulated by computational processes of the cyber world. Alongside this, the growing use of social networks offers near real-time citizen sensing capabilities as a complementary information source. The resulting Cyber–Physical–Social System (CPSS) can help to understand the real world and provide proactive services to users. The nature of CPSS data brings new requirements and challenges to different stages of data manipulation, including identification of data sources, processing and fusion of different types and scales of data. To gain an understanding of the existing methods and techniques which can be useful for a data-oriented CPSS implementation, this paper presents a survey of the existing research and commercial solutions. We define a conceptual framework for a data-oriented CPSS and detail the various solutions for building human–machine intelligence

    Enhanced Modelling and Efficient Realisation of Cyber- Physical Systems

    This report describes the work carried out for the first half of the PhD project titled Enhanced Modelling and Efficient Realisation of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs). The work contributions cover methods and tools to address the challenges of CPS development using a model-based approach. First the report introduces a technique to assist stakeholders in organising design information produced during modelling. Then a modelling language extension that supports reasoning about the energy consumption of the CPUs of a CPS is presented. Afterwards a technique that enables one to include real system components into the system simulation is described and finally the report presents a technology that enables construction of code generators for multiple target languages. In addition to covering the work contributions, this report also describes future work plans that will lead to the completion of the PhD project by April 2016

    Cyber-physical manufacturing systems: An architecture for sensor integration, production line simulation and cloud services

    none9noThe pillars of Industry 4.0 require the integration of a modern smart factory, data storage in the Cloud, access to the Cloud for data analytics, and information sharing at the software level for simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) capabilities. The resulting cyber-physical system (CPS) is often termed the cyber-physical manufacturing system, and it has become crucial to cope with this increased system complexity and to attain the desired performances. However, since a great number of old production systems are based on monolithic architectures with limited external communication ports and reduced local computational capabilities, it is difficult to ensure such production lines are compliant with the Industry 4.0 pillars. A wireless sensor network is one solution for the smart connection of a production line to a CPS elaborating data through cloud computing. The scope of this research work lies in developing a modular software architecture based on the open service gateway initiative framework, which is able to seamlessly integrate both hardware and software wireless sensors, send data into the Cloud for further data analysis and enable both HIL and cloud computing capabilities.
