    Reduction Defect in Sewing Work Stations by Integrating OTSM-TRIZ and FMEA

    The problems that occur in PT Sepatu are still many defect products. To improve the quality and reduce the number of defects is to make improvements to the flow of the process by using the DMAI stages. In the Define stage, the determination of the selected critical defect is needle fracture, jump stitch, loose stitch, Upper symmetry, and Upper wrinkling. In the Measure phase, DPMO measurements were carried out at 4028 units and a sigma level of 4.1. In the Analyze stage, analyze complex problems that cause defects in the sewing department using Network of Problem (NoP). The output of Nop in the form of partial solution (Ps) and sub problem (Pb) becomes the FMEA input, which will then be analyzed and measured in the value of the RPN. The potential Failure Mode (s) with the highest RPN score in the FMEA table will be a priority and become the initial input to the OTSM-TRIZ stage procedure. In the Improve phase using 40 selected inventory principles the repair solution performs cleaning and checking the position of the rotary-yarn tip at the start of each shift, gives a sign sticker on the tension ring, makes a tool to check bent needles, conducts employee training and employee skill mapping.     In an evolving, highly turbulent and uncertain socio-economic environment, organizations must consider strategies of systematic and continuous integration of innovation within their business systems, as a fundamental condition for sustainable development. Adequate methodologies are required in this respect. A mature framework for integrating innovative problem solving approaches within business process improvement methodologies is proposed in this paper. It considers a TRIZ-centred algorithm in the improvement phase of the DMAIC methodology. The new tool is called enhanced sigma-TRIZ. A case study reveals the practical application of the proposed methodology. The integration of enhanced sigma-TRIZ within a knowledge management software platform (KMSP) is further described. The most important results of the study are: (i) QFD modelling and applications are one-sided; prioritisation of technical attributes only maximise customer satisfaction without considering cost incurred (ii) we are still missing considerable knowledge about neural networks for predicting improvement measures in customer satisfaction (iii) further exploration of the subsequent phases (process planning and production planning) of QFD is needed (iv) more decision support systems are needed to automate QFD (v) feedbacks from customers are not accounted for in current studies

    Functional optimization of a Persian lime packing using TRIZ and multi-objective genetic algorithms

    This article proposes a novel approach that uses a mathematical model optimized by Genetic Algorithms harmonized with the Russian theory of problem solving and invention (TRIZ) to design an export packing of Persian Lime. The mathematical model (with functional elements of non-spatial type) optimizes the spaces of the Persian Lime Packing, maximizes the Resistance to Vertical Compression and minimizes the Amount of Material Used, according to the operation restrictions of the packing during the transport of the merchandise. This approach is developed in four phases: the identification of the solution space; the optimization of the conceptual design; the application of TRIZ; and the generation of the final proposal solution. The results show the proposed packing (with 28% less cardboard) supports at least the same vertical load with respect to the nearest competitor packing. However, with the same number of packings per pallet and pallets per container, the space used by the packing assembled and deployed in the container is greater by 10% and 38% respectively. Besides, TRIZ includes innovative non-spatial elements such as the airflow and the friction of the product inside the packing.     A framework for innovative service design

    Drawing on research from design science, marketing and service science, our paper provides an integrated framework for evaluating and directing innovative service design. The main goal of our review is to highlight the strengths of existing frameworks and to suggest how they can be enhanced in combination with design science principles. Based on our review, we propose a new framework for the design of innovative services that integrates several key paradigmatic approaches and identifies fundamental open research questions. Our approach is unique as it combines three service disciplines, namely services marketing, service science, and design science, and provides a new framework that describes step by step the procedure that needs to be taken and the conditions that need to be met for developing innovative services. We believe that providing such a framework is a valuable addition to the literature

    This thesis presents research that advocates process, methods and new technology for performance related robustness improvements in product development. Rapid advances in technology in recent years have set new demands on product development. As a consequence, an increasing variety of products are built on heterogeneous technologies. Specialists from different engineering disciplines must cooperate to a greater extent than before in order to understand the products. Increased cooperation and heterogeneous technologies in products set high demands on rapid product development models in order to deliver products of high quality in short lead time, at low cost. One of the most important tasks in robust design is to select an appropriate system output response. The quality of this selection will greatly affect the effectiveness of the robust design project. Currently, this selection process is more like art than science. By using TRIZ Design principle, several new approaches to enhance robust design are developed. These approaches enable us to select the appropriate system output response in a systematic fashion. The approach developed in this paper was successfully applied and verified in two case studies in two different major automotive companies. This research consists of theory development, mainly in the field of engineering design, TRIZ and CAE. The research in the papers provides: (1) An approach to problem solving by combining design object analysis with TRIZ and FEA; (2) Two case studies carried out with the researcher actively taking part in practical problem solving.     In the forthcoming highly dynamic and complex business environment high-speed and cost-effective development of software applications for targeting a precise, unique and momentary set of requirements (no more-no less) associated to a customized business case will bring sig-nificant benefits both for producers and users. This requires a life cycle change-oriented ap-proach in software development. In this respect, designing software with intrinsic evolutionary resources for reconfiguration represents the sound approach. A methodology for concurrent deployment of reconfigurability characteristics in software applications is introduced in this paper.
