    Get PDF
Given that neural networks have been widely reported in the research community of medical imaging, we provide a focused literature survey on recent neural network developments in computer-aided diagnosis, medical image segmentation and edge detection towards visual content analysis, and medical image registration for its pre-processing and post-processing, with the aims of increasing awareness of how neural networks can be applied to these areas and to provide a foundation for further research and practical development. Representative techniques and algorithms are explained in detail to provide inspiring examples illustrating: (i) how a known neural network with fixed structure and training procedure could be applied to resolve a medical imaging problem; (ii) how medical images could be analysed, processed, and characterised by neural networks; and (iii) how neural networks could be expanded further to resolve problems relevant to medical imaging. In the concluding section, a highlight of comparisons among many neural network applications is included to provide a global view on computational intelligence with neural networks in medical imaging

Evolutionary Computing and Second generation Wavelet Transform optimization: Current State of the Art

    Get PDF
The Evolutionary Computation techniques are exposed to number of domains to achieve optimization. One of those domains is second generation wavelet transformations for image compression. Various types of Lifting Schemes are being introduced in recent literature. Since the growth in Lifting Schemes is in an incremental way and new types of Lifting Schemes are appearing continually. In this context, developing flexible and adaptive optimization approaches is a severe challenge. Evolutionary Computing based lifting scheme optimization techniques are a valuable technology to achieve better results in image compression. However, despite the variety of such methods described in the literature in recent years, security tools incorporating anomaly detection functionalities are just starting to appear, and several important problems remain to be solved. In this paper, we present a review of the most well-known EC approaches for optimizing Secondary level Wavelet transformations

QAM-DWT-SVD Based Watermarking Scheme for Medical Images

This paper presents a new semi-blind image watermarking system for medical applications. The new scheme utilizes Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to embed a textual data into original medical images. In particular, text characters are encoded by a Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM-16). In order to increase the security of the system and protect then the watermark from several attacks, the embedded data is submitted to Arnold Transform before inserting it into the host medical image. To evaluate the performances of the scheme, several medical images have been used in the experiments. Simulation results show that the proposed watermarking system ensures good imperceptibility and high robustness against several attacks

Wavelet-based filtration procedure for denoising the predicted CO2 waveforms in smart home within the Internet of Things

The operating cost minimization of smart homes can be achieved with the optimization of the management of the building's technical functions by determination of the current occupancy status of the individual monitored spaces of a smart home. To respect the privacy of the smart home residents, indirect methods (without using cameras and microphones) are possible for occupancy recognition of space in smart homes. This article describes a newly proposed indirect method to increase the accuracy of the occupancy recognition of monitored spaces of smart homes. The proposed procedure uses the prediction of the course of CO2 concentration from operationally measured quantities (temperature indoor and relative humidity indoor) using artificial neural networks with a multilayer perceptron algorithm. The mathematical wavelet transformation method is used for additive noise canceling from the predicted course of the CO2 concentration signal with an objective increase accuracy of the prediction. The calculated accuracy of CO2 concentration waveform prediction in the additive noise-canceling application was higher than 98% in selected experiments.Web of Science203art. no. 62

Text detection in natural scenes through weighted majority voting of DCT high pass filters, line removal, and color consistency filtering

Detecting text in images presents the unique challenge of finding both in-scene and superimposed text of various sizes, fonts, colors, and textures in complex backgrounds. The goal of this system is not to recognize specific letters or words but only to determine if a pixel is text or not. This pixel level decision is made by applying a set of weighted classifiers created using a set of high pass filters, and a series of image processing techniques. It is our assertion that the learned weighted combination of frequency filters in conjunction with image processing techniques may show better pixel level text detection performance in terms of precision, recall, and f-metric, than any of the components do individually. Qualitatively, our algorithm performs well and shows promising results. Quantitative numbers are not as high as is desired, but not unreasonable. For the complete ensemble, the f-metric was found to be 0.36

The digital watermarking technique, an effective way to protect image, has become the research focus on neural network. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief study on broad theories and discuss the different types of neural networks for image watermarking. Most of the research interest image watermarking based on neural network in discrete wavelet transform or discrete cosine transform. Generally image watermarking based on neural network to solve the problem on to reduce the error, improve the rate of the learning, achieves goods imperceptibility and robustness. It will be useful for researches to implement effective image watermarking by using neural network
